Uncharted, Killzone and Resistance warrant a purchase for this.

more info on game medium:

Quote:

NGP adopts a new game medium, a small, flash memory based card, dedicated for NGP software titles. Taking advantage of the flash memory feature, this innovative card can store full software titles plus add-on game content or game save data. By adopting a flash memory based card solution, SCE will be able to provide game cards with higher capacity in the future, allowing developers to store more game data to deliver rich and immersive games.

NGP will also come equipped with two cameras, one on the front and one on the rear of the system, as well as three motion sensors, gyroscope, accelerometer and electronic compass, all of which are designed to enable users to enjoy a world of entertainment that is linked with real life experiences.

PlayStationŽSuite (PS Suite), announced at the same time as NGP, will also closely co-ordinate with NGP. The newly developed and released game content for Android based portable devices can also be enjoyed on NGP. As a result, users will have access to not only the most leading-edge content, but also some of the more casual experiences that typify the mobile market place.

I think the approach they are taking will alienate them. But could pay off if the new system works.

Just a thought... Shouldn't this be a whole new forum section, seeing as it's a new platform? Same with the 3DS technically. Or just change the group titles.

Going to trial a handhelds section, I think we'll find there wont be much going on in it though.

There was a lot of hype about the incredibly powerful technology behind Sony's upcoming NGP handheld when the device was first shown off a little over a month ago. One of the biggest pieces of speculation -- aided by the fact that they showed several PS3 demos running on the system -- was that this pocket-sized device had as much power as a PlayStation 3. Sony has now clarified that this is not quite the case.

Speaking during an NGP panel at the Game Developer's Conference, Sony platform research manager David Coombes explained why having a handheld with the same level of technology as the PS3 would not work:

"Well, it's not going to run at 2 GHz because the battery would last five minutes... and it would probably set fire to your pants."

While setting your pants on fire would surely make for a great icebreaker for whoever is sitting next to you on the bus or plane, it's probably not ideal for gaming. Coombes still promised an impressive device, though, noting that the NGP will have four CPU cores and an amount of RAM much closer to the PS3 than the PSP.

If you want to know more about the NGP's every detail, you can check out the full hardware specs or read Meagan's write-up of the GDC NGP panel.

Sony Computer Entertainment America president Jack Tretton told Reuters in an interview the company may end up delaying the global release of its upcoming gaming handheld - codenamed the "NGP" - to 2012.

Tretton suggested that due to last month's earthquake and tsunami in Japan, Sony may only be able to release the handheld in one region by the end of the year because of production problems brought on by the disaster.

"It may be the straw that says 'maybe we get to just one market by the end of the year,'" he said. Tretton was unable to comment on which region will get the NGP first if a delay becomes necessary, and added that developers will get additional time to polish their software.

if it does get delayed, japan will get it first. especially since the psp was the highest selling console there last year.
hopefully it doesn't, im really looking forward to it

from what ive been told (mainly assumptions):
$400-500 for the standard wifi model
$500-600 for the wifi and 3g enabled model.

i remember reading somewhere that they're predicting it'll be $249-300 in the US (for the standard model), hence the above prices.
probably won't be getting prices until E3 at the earliest. i guess that goes for details in general actually...

E3 annoncement, games and prices.

http://www.gametrailers.com/video/e3-2011-playstation-vita/714998

$249 wi-fi, $299 3G ($US)

Vita (vee-ta) will also have 'Party Chat'. So if they can put it on there, I wonder what's stopping it coming to PS3?

I don't like the name, it's wanky and annoying. I'll still likely get one at some point.
