Galadil's 5 Year Anniversary; Celebrating Five Years in the Crepe

Five years ago on this day, a few proud Nationstates nerds took an additional step in their virtual governments by creating a simple Invisionfree forum. It was named Galadil, meaning, the Land of Light. After a time, the Nationstates that inspired it faded away, but the forum did not.

Roleplaying took root, starting as a simple interaction between mythical planets. Over time, members drifted away, but a core group remained. They refined the forums to keep them relevant. Roleplays became stories, and stories became sagas. Eccentricity boomed.

Today, on the five year anniversary of its conception, Galadil has 527 topics, 10,642 total posts, and is still 9,157 posts short of being able to count to 10,000. It is perhaps one of the longest lived and most original forums on the Internet.

Galadil has seen many lulls in its life, when its members were too busy to contribute to the discussions and dust gathered in time-worn topics. Times when tumbleweeds rolled through the Lingua Lounge and anyone unfamiliar with the site would've said that it was dead.

But Galadil, like a resilient desert moss, all it takes is a little water to bring it back to life, in all its shining glory. Galadil will surely rise again, as it has before, reborn and reinvigorated by the break. Galadil doesn't die. Galadil takes a breather, so that when the time is right, its members can return to the keyboard and back to the magnificent planets of the Great Crepe with fresh ideas to make the experience better than it was before.

When the time is right; when we have the time, the inspiration, and the motivation, we will return to this place - the place where we learned to tell a story, where we learned to debate, and where we transformed from a ragtag group of high school sci fi fans into responsible, collegiate sci fi creators - a place I like to think of as a second home.

Galadil is five years old and I certainly hope to be here when it celebrates its tenth anniversary. There is something about this forum that I feel will always have a special place in my heart.

Here's to five great years!
