You're the species, I'm the extinction... raw!

This piece is dedicated to my life hero and mentor, Jonny. Several months ago, nearly a year, I quit my job making sandwiches at a local Subway. My declared reason for quitting was for 'school', although my true intentions were driven by my depression and distaste of constantly smelling like sauce, dishwater, and food scraps. So I quit in November, and took the reprieve with open, unshackled arms. This time of rest in the last year of my high school was glorious. A time of self-discovery as well as a time of blossoming into a more responsible young man, I found my life changing quite rapidly. Though the many changes initiated with my engagement in February to Katie Marie Pettit, they continue to this day. The ongoing progression of life changes has been accepted wholeheartedly on my part, with considerable respect to the power of 'hindsight'. The final days of my high school career were beautifully mindful, with a powerful emphasis on yoga and meditation, which dramatically decreased my stress levels, balancing finals, marriage, and friends leaving at graduation. After graduation, the summer became a time in which one thing became clear to me: Time to get another job. This was something I had accepted easily, although my experiences at this time was a microcosmic foreshadowing for the nation's economy. I applied for several places at the beginning of the summer. These included Bookman's, Hastings, and that gardening place on Butler.... I forget the name. None of them replied save Bookman's, with whom I had an interview but was declined employment. My summer continued, and I was married. Following the wedding, I tried to get other jobs with florist shops, who "weren't hiring for this season". Soon college life was upon me. Tremendous pressure was placed on me to get a job, and time was running out. After a failed attempt for a job at the NAU job fair, I felt hopeless and despaired. No one was hiring. Or if they were hiring it was only work study jobs. Nothing worked. Since school began I have applied for at least a dozen jobs, none of which contacted me with hopeful prospects. It wasn't until the hero of this story, one Jonny Eberle, came to me and gave me a cryptic note upon which was scribbled a name and number. I gave it little consideration at first, but once my situation seemed hopeless again my intuitive self was drawn to the auspicious slip of paper. After a call, I immediately was offered an interview, at which I was sickeningly nervous. But lo! here I now sit, at the sound board of a radio station as its operator and announcer, speaking on the air and occasionally disc jockeying. I absolutely love my job and after only one night of training I am on the air managing the whole show alone. I owe the thanks to my great friend, a dear man whose character is unmatched by any I've ever met and whose friendship is of such depth and worth to me personally, that I feel that there are few who I can claim are closer to me in friendship. Jonny, Thank you so much. Not just for getting me a job, but for everything you do as my friend. |

Speaking of which, what radio station is it, that we might fire up the old vacuum tubes and listen to our favorite DJ? |

I'm afraid that unless your blind or ancient you can't listen. It's a frequency that requires a special receiver. I think that you can listen to it online though. Sun Sounds of AZ |

Online is great (it's a little hard to pick up Flagstaff stations down here anyway). So that I will be doing sometime. |
