Today's opening interview is from a rare source tonight, as Joseph Evans takes some time just before his match to speak to the FWL Interviewer. Match 1: Joey Slade (Freelance: 2-0-2) vs. Joseph Evans (FWL: 1-4) Group A Match (Referee: Wayne Williams) Result: Joey Slade is the first person out tonight, and it looks like he's trying to impress someone with an extremely flashy entrance that includes men dressed as ninjas, pyrotechnics, and Slade himself swinging a staff around like a majorette. Well, maybe not a majorette, but like someone who's auditioning for the part of the guy who shows off his skills only to get shot right after by his opponent. Maybe it's because Cody Danielson isn't with him tonight. Or maybe it's because he's psyching himself up for a match that he has to win to ensure he has his own fate in his hands for qualification to the final four. Unfortunately for Slade it's not an easy match as Joseph Evans decides to pick tonight to finally bring something to the table. Evans manages to catch Slade off guard a few times during the match and get his own flurries of offence on the bigger man, but overall Slade is the one in charge. Then Slade starts to have issues with trying to put Evans away, as Evans kicks out of many pin attempts which leaves Slade frustrated and leaves himself wide open for an Evans comeback. Slade comes back with a vengeance and manages to hit the X-Factor only for Evans to kick out just before the 3. Slade, shocked at the turn of events goes for the Endgame, but Evans spins out of it and manages to turn things into a backslide...and in an even more surprising turn of events, gets the three count! Winner: Joseph Evans @ 13:22 We get some static on the screen as we're taken to Charles Frankenstein's lair for the evening. Then we find out that Johnny Dangerous has decided he's not a good guy after all. Match 2: John Garrett (FWL: 0-4) vs. Johnny Dangerous (SWF: 1-3) Group A Match (Referee: Wayne Williams) Result: Like Joseph Evans, John Garrett's skill and promise has been absent for the majority of this tournament, but unlike Joseph Evans he doesn't look like starting tonight. Which is fortunate for Johnny Dangerous as he takes Garrett to the cleaners, and is looking more confident than ever with Ashley back at his side. Dangerous takes the match with a Danger Zone. Winner: Johnny Dangerous @ 6:03 First we see an interview with Jim Ace before we are taken backstage to what can only be described as a jaw-dropping display from Frank Hunter, as he tries to wind up Savior with some rapping! Match 3: Frank Hunter (FCWL: 1-3) vs. Savior (SWF: 2-2) Group B Match (Referee: Greg Barton) Result: Savior is not too pleased with the rapping attempt by Hunter, and has his own rap counter on the way to the ring. The animosity is evident for all to see as Savior takes it to the 7-footer in the early part of the match, and even hits Hunter with his own signature move called the "Chokeslam or Diamond Cutter". However, that only angers the big man as he powers out of the pin attempt and is soon taking control of the match. Savior survives well, keeping himself in the game, but in the end he bites off more than he can chew as he tries to lift the 350-pounder for a Level 5 and fails. Hunter quickly counters with a flapjack, and then hits the Headshot for the victory. Winner: Frank Hunter @ 12:40 We hear from "The Hunter" AJ before his street fight. Match 4: Charles Frankenstein (Freelance) vs. "The Hunter" AJ (FWL) Toronto Street Fight (Referee: Wayne Williams) Result: For a match that doesn't count in the grand scheme of things, they really put it all on the line. This match starts off at a slow pace, but soon enough AJ's bodyguard gets involved and distracts the Bear Jew, giving "The Hunter" an opening to start turning this into a brawl by spearing Frankenstein through the middle rope and they both land on the floor. AJ gives his bodyguard an instruction and he begins to wedge chairs into each corner of the ring. While this is going on, the two competitors battle up the ramp to the stage area, the barricade being a great tag partner for both of them. On the stage there are a plethora of weapons waiting for them, including hockey sticks, which Frankenstein uses to beat down AJ, and a slap shot to the face busts him open and following that up by ramming his head into a huge model of the CN Tower. AJ's bodyguard again tries to get involved, but the Bear Jew is quick to counter, hitting the bodyguard with a DDT-like move into that model and then using a Cannonball Dropkick to send him off the stage and through another model, this time of the United Airlines Centre. Frankenstein starts bringing AJ back to the ring, where tables have now been set up as well as those chairs, but AJ starts to make a comeback as they hit the ring, crimson mask and all. AJ thinks he has it when he manages to send Frankenstein through a table after a running superkick knocks him off the apron, but the man whose nickname now sounds like a special type of class from the new South Park game, Stick of Truth, manages to dodge the next bullet. AJ tries to end the match with a Re-arranger in the corner with Frankenstein's head against one of those chairs, but he moves at the last moment, getting himself to his feet in the other corner which also has a chair. AJ charges and another dodge sends "The Hunter" careening into that chair as well. The Bear Jew is quick to reply, dragging AJ to the middle of the ring and hitting the GriftLock Driver to take the hard-fought victory. Winner: Charles Frankenstein @ 28:31 From a match worthy of a championship, to a champion preparing for his next encounter. What happened to him and Max Thrasher, anyway? Was the bounty hunter fired or something? Either way, Yony Fontana is finding something extremely funny... Match 5: Cody Danielson (Freelance: 3-1) vs. Fireheart (FWL: 2-3) Group B Match (Referee: Greg Barton) Result: Danielson comes out to the match without Joey Slade tonight, maybe as a result of their match last round. It also seems that Danielson is still feeling the effects of that match as he's not looking in the best shape, something the FWL champion is all too happy to exploit. Danielson does seem to like pain, however, and fights through it to at least make this match competitive, and almost manages to take is as he sets up Fireheart for the Powerbomb Backbreaker. Unfortunately for him, Fireheart manages to slip out of Danielson's hands at the top of the lift and drop down with a Dragon Fist. With the action that had gone on before, the injuries suffered last round, and the surprise of that connection, Danielson is stunned long enough for Fireheart to get the three count! Winner: Fireheart @ 17:59 Nathan Adams gives his final thoughts before his match. Match 6: Nathan Adams (FCWL: 2-2) vs. Jim Ace (SWF: 3-1) Group B Match (Referee: Greg Barton) Result: Jim Ace has been the surprise package of this tournament, flying about despite his size and still displaying the power you would expect someone to have for their size. Nathan Adams is another surprise package, starting off slow but since getting signed to FCWL as a result of entering this tournament has been even more impressive. This makes this match very interesting to watch as the two styles and ideologies clash. The match is a see-saw battle with both of them bringing out their most eye-catching moves. Neither of their primary go-to finishers puts the other away, and Ace resorts to the Shooting Star Press that has gained him many fans. Adams just about sees it coming, though, and manages to scramble out of the way before Ace lands, which leaves the Golden Greek wide open for a running rolling elbow from Adams, which puts Ace to the mat. Adams covers and gets the three count! While Adams' hand is raised, we see on a replay that Ace managed to get his foot on the rope but before the referee could see it, Adams pulled it off as if he was hooking the leg... Winner: Nathan Adams @ 19:24 Max Thrasher for some reason is outside on his horse in the cold... Match 7: Yony Fontana (Freelance: 3-0-1) vs. Max Thrasher (FWL: 2-2) Group A Match (Referee: Wayne Williams) Result: With Joey Slade's upset loss at the top of the show, Yony Fontana can pretty much ensure his qualification if he can get past this potential banana skin of a match with Max Thrasher. The key he uses is his speed, making sure that Thrasher has little opportunity to get his grubby mitts on him. Of course there are moments when Thrasher does manage to put a beating down on Fontana, and at points the audience is sure that Fontana might just choke at this big opportunity, but the Mexican keeps kicking out and keeps fighting. Late in the match, Fontana starts to make a comeback, stunning Thrasher with moves from all angles, but a knock out punch when going for a springboard move seems to have things settled. Thrasher goes for the Bulls Eye Drop...but it's countered into a Hurricanrana, Fontana keeps hold for the pinning combination...and pulls the three count out of the hat! Winner: Yony Fontana @ 20:56 |
