I hope you guys don't mind if I add a bit more on the Tudor rose. It got my attention a while back, not sure exactly what prompted me in that direction at the time. It was part of delving into royalty, kings and queens and the links between them.

Anyway, from the wiki page:
Quote:

The Tudor rose badge might be slipped and crowned, that is, shown as a cutting with a stem and leaves beneath a crown; this badge appears in Nicholas Hilliard's "Pelican Portrait" of Elizabeth I and is now the Royal Floral emblem of England.

The Tudor rose might also be dimidiated (cut in half and combined with half another emblem) to form a compound badge. The Westminster Tournament Roll includes a badge of Henry and his first wife Catherine of Aragon with a slipped Tudor rose conjoined with Catherine's personal badge, the pomegranate; their daughter Mary I bore the same badge. James I of England and VI of Scotland used a badge of a Tudor rose dimidiated with a thistle and surmounted by a royal crown.

Here is the Tudor Rose Royal Badge of England:

It looks to me like there are pomegranate seeds in the head of crown, and there is a mention in the quoted text of Catherine's personal badge being a pomegranate. (Only reference to pomegranate's are in relation to Catherine of Aregon.)

I searched for the "Pelican" Portrait of Elizabeth I, and the site I landed had two portraits by the same artist, Nicholas Hilliard.

Quoting from the page:
Quote:

The two panel portraits of Elizabeth. Notice the intense detail of her gowns, a way to deflect attention from the aging queen (although she does not look old here, this was not a portrait from life) as well as a way to display the wealth of her position and of England. The one on the right is titled the "Pelican" Portrait, c. 1572, due to the jeweled pelican on Elizabeth's dress (right above her hand); the one on the left is titled the "Pheonix" Portrait, c. 1575, for the pheonix on her dress (again, right above her hand).

For some reason, the talk about gowns deflecting the attention from an aging queen (who the writer reasons must've been old it seems) though she didn't look old just reminded me of wathup's observations of the spryness of the aging queen Elizabeth II (while the rest of us seem to be depleting in health and vigor sooner and to more of a degree than we think we should.)

I reduced the size of the images above. One in particular was a huge file.

Before doing that, I magnified and took screen shots of the hands and birds.

I reckon this is the pelican. Pelicans remind me of storks. I'm trying to figure out if that U shape is supposed to be the bird's neck. When I did a search with the keywords Pelicans remind me of storks I opened two pages and didn't feel the need to open any more.

The first page shows a bird feeding the young.

Spot-billed pelicans and painted storks (pictured) are known to nest in proximity.

The second page is about the symbolism of the pelican and has one picture which resembles the pelican on Elizabeth I's dress.

It's a bit of a mixed (but not long) read but here's an excerpt to mull over:
Quote:

"The little pelicans strike their parents, and the parents, striking back, kill them. But on the third day the mother pelican strikes and opens her side and pours blood over her dead young. In this way they are revivified and made well. So Our Lord Jesus Christ says also through the prophet Isaiah: ‘I have brought up children and exalted them, but they have despised me’ (Is 1:2). We struck God by serving the creature rather than the Creator...

When I began reading and it associated the pelican with the Lord, I thought about how EL-II is designated as the Lord of Mann and in certain subtle ways I think she thinks of herself that way (pun intended), most part.

Anyway, I looked at the pelican portrait again to see if it looked like the pelican was feeding the young. It could be, hard to tell.

This stood out more. The Phoenix. It's the fingers. Kinda got that satanic formation goin' on.

A triangle is formed on her chest in both the pelican and the phoenix portraits, and the necklace pendant serves to represent an eye (on the pyramid).

Anyway, it's good to see ya, wathup. I'm terrible at conversation and I need to work on it. I get so fascinated with subjects and get a little caught up.

This last couple weeks I've felt like crap. I got some sinus bug that started out as a drip I couldn't control. It changed over days to sinus/sneezing. I had aches and pains on top of my aches and pains, headaches, sore throat, and just felt lousy.

Finally, I cleared up and was feeling better, then a loved one came back from a stay at friends and said a rabbit she slept near made her sick, she thought she slept too close to where the rabbit was kept. Next thing, she had sinus problems and sneezing, etc. I told her she probably just came down with what I just had but she insisted it was the rabbit that did it.

I thought to tell her to cover her mouth and nose completely when she sneezed (because of something I once watched/read about how far sneeze droplets can travel and spread) but then I thought 'Ah-well, no matter, if it's what I had I can't get it twice'.

Foolish me. Sneezing again and fighting off other symptoms. I forget how no two strains are just alike when it comes to viruses.

'Tis the season I guess.
