When Thomas Edison began wiring New York City with a direct current electricity distribution system in the 1880s, he gave humankind the magic of electric light, heat, and power; in the process, though, he inadvertently opened a Pandora’s Box of unimaginable illness and death. Dirty Electricity tells the story of Dr. Samuel Milham, the scientist who first alerted the world about the frightening link between occupational exposure to electromagnetic fields, electromagnetic pollution, and human disease. Milham takes readers through his early years and education, following the twisting path that led to his discovery that most of the twentieth century diseases of civilization, including cancer, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and suicide, are caused by electromagnetic field exposure. Dr. Milham warns that because of the recent proliferation of radio frequency radiation from cell phones and towers, terrestrial antennas, Wi-Fi and Wi-max systems, broadband internet over power lines, and personal electronic equipment, we may be facing a looming epidemic of morbidity and mortality. In Dirty Electricity, he reveals the steps we must take, personally and as a society, to coexist with this marvelous but dangerous technology. http://www.sammilham.com/ |

Here is something I came across from another website: [Fluorescent light bulbs verses Incandescent light bulbs] "Dirty electricity is electrical currents that emit harmful radioactive waves. Incandescent bulbs do not create or "backwash" these frequencies into the current that is energizing them. Fluorescent bulbs, however, do. And dirty electricity is deadly. It has been thoroughly demonstrated back in the 1950s and 60s to cause •Leukemia •Migraines •Hair Loss •Amnesia •Chronic fatigue symdrome •etc They are yet forcing upon us endless ways to kill us. This time, using false-science in the name of saving the environment. Incandescent bulbs have NEVER hurt the environment, EVER. In fact, its a clean use of clean energy. Until now... Having Fluorescent bulbs in the home is like living near High-Tension power lines. A simmering death sentence..." |

Yeah, I agree. But how to deal with it? Kerosene hand lamps and candles alone can get pretty dangerous just for light, safety-wise. I wish they hadn't outlawed incandescent bulbs. Or did they really? Anyone know for sure? They give out MUCH better light imho. I don't see how to do without computers. I can do without tv, no problem as radio is available. Computer would be hard. |

Almost one year ago they banned incandescent lights in the UK. I remember there was a great rush by people to buy up all they can while they were able to. Light goes out for incandescent bulbs Phased ban on the sale of incandescent lightbulbs is completed following EU directive to reduce energy use of lighting http://www.theguardian.com/environment/2012/aug/31/lightbulbs-incandescent-europe hmm, never saw this one: Retailers avoid ban on traditional light bulbs Retailers have found a way around a “ridiculous” ban on traditional light bulbs by the European Union which comes into force this week. Now, from this week, a ban on all remaining traditional types, including the 40W bulb, is being phased in. But there could be hope for those wanting to keep using the incandescent variety – as retailers have found a loophole which allows them to get around the new rules. The EU directive banning the 40W bulb, which comes into force on September 1, refers only to those meant for “household lamps”, meaning shops can continue to supply bulbs intended for “industrial use”. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/earth/energy/9498092/Retailers-avoid-ban-on-traditional-light-bulbs.html Traditional lightbulbs banned by EU Traditional light bulbs are to be banned from 2010, EU energy ministers have decided. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/europe/3174452/Traditional-lightbulbs-banned-by-EU.html |
