For those who are unaware, here are the steps to make a Flash video, for example a YouTube video, appear within a post.

1. Go to the video's page and copy the url address for the video from the top of your internet browser or from the "share" field on the video's page.

2. Go to the forum in which you wish to post the video. If starting a new topic, click on New Topic. If replying to a topic, click on Add Reply.

3. Post any text, that is anything you wish to say, before the video.

4. Click on Flash from among the options above the field for your post.

5. A pop-up field will appear. Paste the url address for the video into the pop-up field and click Okay.

6. The video url address should now appear within flash tags.

7. Edit any text you wish to edit, that is anything you wish to say in addition to posting the video.

8. Click Post Reply or Post Topic, whichever appears below your post.

The video should now appear within your post.

Note: In addition to making the video appear within your post, it's a good idea to also paste the url address for the video either above or below the embedded video as an option for those people who prefer to go to the video's location to view it.

To embed a Vimeo video into a post, paste the link below into the Flash field with the numbers in bold replaced by the numbers in the Vimeo video's url.
http://vimeo.com/moogaloop.swf?clip_id=21248863&server=vimeo.com&show_title=0&show_byline=0&show_portrait=0&color=&fullscreen=1&autoplay=0&loop=0

For example, to embed the Vimeo video at url http://vimeo.com/29954106 click on Flash and paste the following into the Flash field:
http://vimeo.com/moogaloop.swf?clip_id=29954106&server=vimeo.com&show_title=0&show_byline=0&show_portrait=0&color=&fullscreen=1&autoplay=0&loop=0

to get this:

Vimeo is a little trickier than youtube and you'll have to do a little more work. We'll use this incredible animation from ice in space dot com:

Widefield Lemmon and PANSTARRS animation

http://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/showthread.php?s=459ba745f79494b955f8d74cd34a6243&t=103308

Instructions for posting Vimeo videos:

For Vimeo videos, you'll need to hit the 'use old embed code' as the new one does not work. My code looks like this:

Code:

<!-- This version of the embed code is no longer supported. Learn more: https://vimeo.com/help/faq/embedding --> <object width="500" height="281"><param name="allowfullscreen" value="true" /><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always" /><param name="movie" value="http://vimeo.com/moogaloop.swf?clip_id=59571509&force_embed=1&server=vimeo.com&show_title=1&show_byline=1&show_portrait=1&color=00adef&fullscreen=1&autoplay=0&loop=0" /><embed src="http://vimeo.com/moogaloop.swf?clip_id=59571509&force_embed=1&server=vimeo.com&show_title=1&show_byline=1&show_portrait=1&color=00adef&fullscreen=1&autoplay=0&loop=0" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowscriptaccess="always" width="500" height="281"></embed></object>

I've separated this section from the above and I've bolded the area needed to post a video:

     value="http://vimeo.com/moogaloop.swf?clip_id=59571509&

Looking now, I guess it can be extracted from either of two places:

     <embed src="http://vimeo.com/moogaloop.swf?clip_id=59571509&

Copy the section and click the Flash button:

This box will appear:

Paste the code (video URL) into the field
and click OK:

How to get the old code from Vimeo

When you first click on share you'll see this, the new embed code (note it says iframe.)

Click on +Show options.

A screen like this will appear.
In the bottom right corner you can barely see the words:
Use old embed code
Click on it.

Now you'll get this screen. Note it says object in the code.
About as soon as you move your mouse over the field it will highlight.
Copy and paste it either to your notepad or even in your post temporarily until you can extract the section needed, then you can get rid of the rest. I tried extracting the section straight from the field at the site but it wouldn't cooperate.

Good luck with your Vimeo video posting.

I hope this tutorial helps.

Posted Image Tip:

You can click ctrl + c (that is press both keys at same time) to copy highlighted text or images, or you can right-click and select copy from the drop down menu to copy to your clipboard. You can then paste what you've copied by clicking ctrl + v, or right-clicking and choosing paste from the drop down menu.

I just tried the steps I had posted for Vimeo, and they still work for me. If you have trouble with those steps, you can try the alternate steps that yass kindly took the time and effort to post.
