From what I've seen & heard over many years, including first hand experience & eye witnesses, the Disabilities & old folks home businesses have got to be one of the biggest scams against the most vulnerable in our society. Over here most are now Privatised but the Charity Organizations & the Privatised all recieve the same Government funding which is supposed to cover the needs of the clients. Every year, each person is allocated from $150 - $350,000 & maybe in some cases a million depending on disability, that does not include their weekly dissability pension, which goes straight into the hands of the 'Carers' Organization/institution which is supposed to be used for their daily living expenses. Many house managers have been sacked for asking questions or complaining, though the sackings have been insidiously done to prevent legal problems for themselves. The so called cut backs are unecessary but constantly demanded, even the electricity for heating during a freezing winter is unacceptably monitored, they are just told to put more socks & jumpers on. Fuel is restricted to a minimal daily quota which the staff find very frustrating, they can't drive the clients to too many events because theyr'e not allowed to go over the km's. The estimated savings that these organisations pilfer anually run into the millions. Non Profit & Relgious Organizations seem to be the worst as their tax exempt & they give the false advertising & impression that they care. Parents or family members, who decide to look after their own disabled loved ones do not get the same funding & have to do with a measley carers pension. They are constantly struggling with the conditions & lack of support. Mental illness & the ageing population is not declining & this industry does not look like it's going to be held accountable any time soon, the other concern is the financial security of an average elderly person is not going to give them many choices as to where they're going to end up. Reminds me to be nice to the kids as one day they may be the ones who put you in a Nursing Home! (no way! that was a joke!) |
