I think I have this figured out... that is how to put the code without the spaces (which if I outright did it would be invisible and if I write it out with the spaces which would make it visible and say "but without spaces" nobody seems to get it) lols... so, here goes again and hopefully it will help some of you who would like your videos to appear in your posts rather than just putting a link. I don't know about everyone else, but I am more likely to watch a video which is visible on site, rather than traveling off-site by a link.

I found something new in the bb code list... 'nocode', for posting code that won't disappear and can be copied and pasted for use with your applications.

For videos you use this code. You can also use it for some non-youtube videos, but not all, so you just have to try it with non-youtube videos and if it works, that's great, and if it doesn't, you can post the link instead.

Video imbed code:

In between this code you post the url to your video:

For images, you use this code. Some people, like myself, use photohosting services such as photobucket or pict.com, but you're not limited to that. Photos in articles or wiki can be imbedded directly from the source by simply right-clicking and copying the 'image location' url. The only draw back to that, if any, is if the site goes down. If the site goes down, or the page from which you've extracted that image, your image will disappear from the post.

I personally like to take that same image url and upload it to my photo hosting service, then use that for posting the picture. The site or page can go down all day long, but I have the image uploaded to my photo hosting service where it will stay... until my photo hosting service goes down or something of the like.

I also filter images and take many, many screen shots, and to get them to appear here, I upload them from my computer to my photo hosting service, but as you see robin has no need of this as she uses the attachment feature, then previews her post and goes to the page that opens up with the picture, then uses the image code to embed the picture and make it appear. With the invision free forum (format) that we previously used it would not have been much of an option, as you were only allowed so much space for attachments, then you had to start paying for more. I don't see that problem here (but then I haven't looked at the details of zetaboard yet), but by what I can make of it, it seems to be a viable option.

Image code:

In between this code you post the image url to your picture:

I probably don't need to do this, but it may help someone in mastering the application so I will.

What you are looking for, the url:

Highlight and copy:

Paste the url between the code for embedding videos:

As I stated before, you can either upload your photos to a photo hosting service or straight from the source, and here are some examples:

To get an image url, you must right-click on the image:

Right click and look for copy image location on your menu

Posted Image

After it's highlighted, click copy.

Not everyone's computer language is going to be the same. Try and figure out which is the equivalent to the words copy image location on your computer. Don't copy 'link' location, because it's not the same. Make sure it is the image url.

From there you have a couple choices, either to directly embed the picture from the source, adding the image code around the image location url before posting, or upload it to a photo hosting service through the 'get image from url' feature/function.

pict.com

http://www.pict.com/

Here, you would simply click on the button that says 'upload image from url' and then paste the image url from the picture or image you've chosen from a site or article, etc.

Now, I have actually taken a screen shot of the pict.com page and uploaded it to my album at photobucket!

...from which I can get the image url with the [img][/img] code already added for my convenience.

I can get the hosted image url in three different ways, two of which I'll show in pictures, the other is by clicking on the picture itself from your album page, i.e. clicking on the thumbnail, which will lead you to a page which also has the link/url options (but that's the long way).

Move your mouse over the picture and a menu will appear

Photobucket

http://photobucket.com/

By default, it's set to retrieve pictures from your computer, meaning if you click that big blue bar that says 'Upload images & videos' it will go into your computer and from there you can locate the destination folder and select one or more pictures for uploading. The same with pict.com, if you click on one of the boxes that says 'upload image' it will also go to your computer, and from there you can select the destination folder. You can choose more than one picture to upload at one time by scrolling and highlighting in a series, or by holding down the control key and clicking with your left mouse for each (additional) photo you want uploaded from the folder during that particular upload. Be careful about that, though. I have to do it quick like because if I don't do it just right it will make a copy of the image (besides highlighting/selecting) and it clutters up my folder with those copies.

Once you've selected a destination, the photo hosting service will subsequently open to that same folder, unless you change it (or have deleted your cookies), which I have to do from time to time, because my folders get so full and it's a pain trying to go in and select the various pic or two to upload. Also, when I delete certain 'spent' pics it creates a gap in the alpha-numerical order of the pictures in the folder, so further images that I screen shot or download to that folder fall into vacant numbered spots in the (alpha-numerical) order that they are vacant.... so instead of being placed all together and at the last and easy to find due to it, they may be scattered throughout the folder's images (some of which I don't want to delete for one reason or another, some to save, some to work on or post at a later time, etc., etc.). So, solution? I create a new folder, change the destination of my screen shot program through the programs menu, and alas! I have a fresh folder to work with, to select and upload my images from, to the photo host.

An example of what an album looks like:

Posted Image

Under that big blue bar where it says 'Use CTRL to select multiple files (more options)', click more options to choose what size you'd like your photos to be saved in. I think I've got mine set to 15" screen 800 x 600 to catch whatever size I upload (and which won't save any larger than the size I've selected to upload them in). If you're uploading photos with your camera, which might be a very large file, you'll probably want to choose a size control (a smaller size) for emailing or posting your images so they don't clog things up.

Back to pict.com

If you're uploading a picture from your computer

Click on Upload image:

Posted Image

Find the destination/folder it's in and highlight the image or images you want to upload and click 'open':

Posted Image

Let's choose another image for example:
Posted Image

When it uploads, it will look like this:
Posted Image

Run your mouse over the bottom edge of the uploaded picture and you'll see the words 'Share it' appear, you'll want to click on it.

Posted Image

After which, you'll select your image url option. For forums like Free Thinkers or the Icke forums, just choose the one that already has the image tags added, for your convenience. Otherwise, you just have to add the image tags to the image url, which I have to do quite a bit anyway, like when I want to grab a picture I have already posted somewhere, and just use the right-click function which gives me the image url without the convenient image tags added (so, I add them myself).

At one site I belong to, I have to do things the html way, meaning I use the image url without the forum image tags (i.e. [img][/img] ) and add html image tags, instead, in order to get my image(s) posted.

Select and copy your photo hosted image url.

Posted Image

Now, post it!

A word on copyright infringement. I've actually removed photos, like from the gardening section because certain sites stipulate that you may not use their image for any reason, any time, whatsoever, or else.

There are others protected by copyright but fall under fair use terms, just like some articles.

The very best to use are those that clearly state that they are in the public domain, copyrights have expired, etc., like you'll often find on wiki, posted underneath photo's after you've clicked to view the photo (usually in a larger size) off the wiki page you're viewing.

Use discretion and good judgment when obtaining photos and articles for sharing and when you run across stuff about fair use, read it to get a better idea.

peace. :)
