Brain waves will replace keyboard and mouse, dial phones and change TV channels

By the year 2020, you won't need a keyboard and mouse to control your computer, say Intel Corp. researchers. Instead, users will open documents and surf the Web using nothing more than their brain waves.

Scientists at Intel's research lab in Pittsburgh are working to find ways to read and harness human brain waves so they can be used to operate computers, television sets and cell phones. The brain waves would be harnessed with Intel-developed sensors implanted in people's brains.

The scientists say the plan is not a scene from a sci-fi movie -- Big Brother won't be planting chips in your brain against your will. Researchers expect that consumers will want the freedom they will gain by using the implant.

"I think human beings are remarkable adaptive," said Andrew Chien, vice president of research and director of future technologies research at Intel Labs. "If you told people 20 years ago that they would be carrying computers all the time, they would have said, 'I don't want that. I don't need that.' Now you can't get them to stop [carrying devices]. There are a lot of things that have to be done first but I think [implanting chips into human brains] is well within the scope of possibility."

Intel research scientist Dean Pomerleau told Computerworld that users will soon tire of depending on a computer interface, and having to fish a device out of their pocket or bag to access it. He also predicted that users will tire of having to manipulate an interface with their fingers.

Instead, they'll simply manipulate their various devices with their brains.

"We're trying to prove you can do interesting things with brain waves," said Pomerleau. "Eventually people may be willing to be more committed ... to brain implants. Imagine being able to surf the Web with the power of your thoughts."

To get to that point Pomerleau and his research teammates from Intel, Carnegie Mellon University and the University of Pittsburgh, are currently working on decoding human brain activity.

Pomerleau said the team has used Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (FMRI) machines to determine that blood flow changes in specific areas of the brain based on what word or image someone is thinking of. People tend to show the same brain patterns for similar thoughts, he added.

For instance, if two people think of the image of a bear or hear the word bear or even hear a bear growl, a neuroimage would show similar brain activity. Basically, there are standard patterns that show up in the brain for different words or images.

Pomerleau said researchers are close to gaining the ability to build brain sensing technology into a head set that culd be used to manipulate a computer. The next step is development of a tiny, far less cumbersome sensor that could be implanted inside the brain.

im wondering if anyone here has felt their bed shaking or vibrating?
mine does.
we are sleeping on a regular spring mattress with the boxspring on floor so nothing is underneath.
i miss the waterbed but it finally leaked one too many times and could not be fixed.

i hadnt realized there was vibration until my husband pointed it out one morning.
he woke up and felt the bed vibrating (not harshly, but really soft) like a cell phone does.
he thought it was me but i was asleep.
ive felt it myself three times this past year, twice while he slept.
its very soft but quite discernable.
one night we were both awake and it happened.
it lasts for about 20 seconds.
i havent noticed any sleep paralysis happening when this occurs.
im finding little online concerning this...
thought there would be more info.

my feeling is it has to do with those springs.
the three stories i found online were also beds with those springs.
it has never happened on the waterbed or if it did, we never noticed.

side note, last night when i was washing dishes someone came up fast behind me.
it startled me and i (surprisingly) yelled out AAAAHHHH as i
i spun around..... and no one was there.
but i KNOW someone was coming up to me.
this is so creepy.

also yesterday, my husband and i drove to a couple home improvement stores.on the way way out in a rural area, a man on a motorcycle passed us.
he was super tall and had white hair.
it was a regular sized motorcycle and with him sitting on it, because of his height he looked really weird, like he was riding a childs bike.
less than a minute after he passed us going the opposite direction, a huge ball of FEAR hit my belly.
i couldnt put a reason as to WHY this fear hit me.
it just came out of nowhere.
it made me so sick to my stomach.
it lasted a good full minute, really strong.
i cant make heads or tails of it.
i have no idea WHAT i was afraid of.
i did NOT mention it to my husband.
what an odd day.

Incredible new UFO videos from China surface

The sheer volume of UFO sightings that are occurring in China at the moment is astonishing. Every day dozens if not hundreds of citizens of that nation see UFOs and at least a dozen new videos filmed by witnesses are uploaded onto the Internet. Sometimes older footage gathering dust in witnesses cupboards is also converted into digital format and put on The Net for the world to see.

These two fascinating clips have just been loaded onto the internet. The first video (below) shows what appears to be a close-up of a mother ship type UFO that was seen hovering over a Chinese city earlier this year.

The second video (below) shows a black ‘walnut shaped’ UFO seen from what appears to be a train. The UFO is either directly in front of the sun or emitting its own blinding light. Debunkers have claimed these UFOs are merely the result of light overload on digital cameras. The witnesses here seem to see the object with their own eyes and the UFO moves away at the end. Or does it just appear to move away? What do you think?

This is Amber.My daughter.My diamond.My heart's owner(to a degree).She is a very special young lady,full of laughter,kind hearted,sweet spirited,and has the gift of charity written upon her soul.Her smile lights up everything around her.Babies reach for her,and the elderly love to just sit and talk with her.
I haven't seen much of that pretty smile of hers lately.Now that I think about it,it's been a long time sense I have heard her laugh....She has lost alot of weight,and is now a size 0.I am watching my Diamond fade away.She is always sick and I place most the blame on the mold in their rental home which was caused by flood damage.Fema and the county housing inspectors are in the process of condemning the home,but I'm afraid their actions are too slow as they were served with an eviction court date of 11-27-09.The landlord refused almost all repairs.They have no heat.They had no frig.,or stove until I repaired them.The bottom of the furnace has what looks like sliced peaches with veins growing every where!Do any of you know of any more help they can get,or what should she say or ask for in the court?The back sliding glass door has never had a lock on it! Can you believe that?!At the end of this summer,finally the landlord replaced the broken a/c unit but,it was wired wrong.The electricity bill went from 185 to 590.00!Please help me....as I help them help themselves.
