Ip Man's disciple mentors for "I Love Wing Chun" By Anne Jamaludin Wing Chun martial arts consultant Guy Lai together with Chinese diver-turned-actor Tian Liang ("The Fantastic Water Babes") arrived in Malaysia recently to prepare for the pre-production of "I Love Wing Chun". Better known as Master Lai, the direct disciple of Ip Man will train the male lead, Tian Liang on the basic moves to ensure the authenticity and realistic fight scenes during production. According to him, the key to Wing Chun is to master the hand techniques and movements. Moreover, practicing disciples should also have strong ethical code and only utilise the martial arts for protection. His involvement with the production as a consultant and trainer was a timely opportunity that came through a mutual friend with director Choi Lik. Tian Liang, who was ecstatic to learn of Master Lai's contribution, said, "I am very happy to work with Master Lai. Because I came from an athletic background, I was initially quite confident that I am prepared for the training, however there were still difficulties as I do not have any knowledge or training in martial arts at all." Though it has only been a few days of basic technique training, Master Lai however has only encouraging responses for Tian Liang, commending the young actor to be a fast learner. The movie tells the story of Ah Yip (Tian Lian), a Malaccan youth raised by an old couple in a sugarcane plantation who unknowingly had Wing Chun lessons. One day, he was summoned to the big city by a wealthy businessman, raising suspicions from the businessman's family. It boasts an array of casts from Hong Kong, China and Malaysia such as comedian Natalis Chan Pak Cheung ("Adventure Of The King"), Yuen Wah ("Australia"), Yuen Qiu ("My Kung Fu Sweetheart"), singer Vinx Lim Yi Xin, Lai Meng ("Money No Enough 2") as well as radio deejays Gan Mei Yan, Jeff Chin, Royce Tan, Vivian Tok and Angel Wong Chui Ling. "I Love Wing Chun", will be distributed by RAM Entertainment Sdn. Bhd in Malaysia and is targeted for a simultaneous Asian release by March or April 2011 in China, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Singapore. http://www.cinema.com.my/ http://www.chinapress.com.my/ FEW ONSET PHOTOS |
