Just got in the first half of Ghost Sweeper Mikami. Just the thing to keep my disc of Phantom Quest Corp company, not to mention the GSM movie. Watched the first couple of eps. Animation is a little on the cheap side, but serviceable. It was good, but unlike the Dirty Pair, I didn't feel compelled to rip through the disc or at least watch more than two eps in one sitting (I might plug it back in and watch a couple more eps, later tonight, though). For it's age, mid-nineties, the picture quality is good. Sub only, which is fine by me. Anyone that's turned off by that probably wouldn't be interested in any anime from the previous century anyway. I don't remember seeing any fansubs of Mikami during the late nineties (if there were tapes circulating I never saw them), so I guess is my first viewing.

Eden of the East

I am 2 episodes away from finishing this series (11 episodes) and even if they screw up and don't have a proper conclusion it still will be the most enjoyable, intriquing , and original anime I have seen in quite some time...and it looks great on bluray.

No giant robots, no tentacled creatures, no goofy kid with android dolls loving him......more like Jason Bourne meets 9/11 for Japan and social commentary on terrorism and what does "saving Japan" really mean. There is some typical anime humor, but for the most part it is well above other anime and pretty ambitious in it's story and conspiricy mythology.

Good to hear. I've been thinking about getting Eden of the East. May have to give it a go when I get the chance.

Man, I have a ton of Anime to get through. Summer Wars is one, along with a whole bunch of others, I've also got a bunch of series like Last Exile and Full Metal Alchemist. So that'll keep me busy for a good long while.
I Saw The Devil at A Dirty Carnival with Lady Vengeance while having A Bittersweet Life of an Oldboy.

Funimation is releasing Summer Wars, I pre-ordered a copy as well. I actually just finished watching Last Exile in the previous week and I've since been watching some Detective Conan, I love this show.

Watching Fractale, Funi is streaming it here (hulu), as it airs in Japan. Have only watched two episodes, but it's good. It certainly seems to be wearing some its influences on its sleeve, specifically Ghibli/Miyazaki and Nadia, unless I'm reading more into it than what's there.

Started rewatching my Lupin III movies, I have about 10 of them on DVD and have been watching a movie a night. Great stuff and the variety of directors really shows the different way the character has been done throughout the years.

I got FLCL on bluray (cheap $20 @Amazon)

It looks great, the animation is striking and colorful, however it is certainly style over substance. I've wathced 3 episodes and it's not like I'm seeing much developement in plot/characters. I can only handle watching 1 episode an evening, because the kinetic music video style is a bit overwhelming. Still, it is a bit bizarre and entertaining. 7/10

Ya, the whole show is all about style, but I remember loving it. The story makes little to no sense even after multiple viewings. It's a beauty to behold though.

Just finished watching the entireity of "Hokuto no Ken" (original 80s series).
Truly a classic! I actually wouldn't mind an animated reboot. In fact, I've even started reading the original comics in Chinese.

Watched the Orguss 02 OAV this weekend. While it doesn't hurt to have watched Orguss first (good luck on that), it stands firmly on it's own, referencing the original series only in its last couple of episodes. It's about 3 hours long, no filler. Story moves along nicely and the characters are all nice and defined.

The story focuses on Lean, a young mechanic cum soldier, Nataruma a young psychic (the McGuffin) and Manning a rogue with a heart of gold. The story takes place about two hundred years after the original Orguss. Two sides of a was chase after Nataruma because her abilities allow her to power giant Decimators, future tech littering the planet in the aftermath of the last time/space bomb "explosion".

The disc is out of print, but can probably be found if you dig hard enough.

I might actually give Goeman another chance just for the eye candy. Amazon has the blu for $17.99. I really didn't like the story but it did have style up the wazoo and scorching colors.
