Anyone seen one or both of the latest Evangelion films? I wasn't sure what to make of this project back when it was announced, but I was quite impressed by the first film. The already great animation quality has improved substantially, and I like the additions made to the last battle. Now I'm hearing that starting with the second film, the story is spinning off in a new direction. I'm eager to see the second film, but it's taking forever for these things to hit DVD / blu-ray. FUNimation has the US distribution rights, but last I heard, the blu-ray for the first film won't hit our shores until this spring (nearly three years after its Japanese theatrical debut...not very impressive). At this rate, does that mean we're looking at 2016 for all four films on US blu-ray? Ugh... |

I've heard they're really good, they streamline alot of the story so it's more focused. I really want to see these as well. |

Well, there are quite a few different versions as I understand it. With 1.01 being released but new stuff being added to increase the number. They may be waiting for a definitely version for BD and I guess that makes sense. You can only ask consumers to shell out so much. |

Well, with the second film in theatres over in Hong Kong, I think we will be seeing English subbed R3 DVD releases very soon. The R3HK release had English subtitles. |

voltin: FUNimation's blu-ray will be the "final" 1.11 version of the film (or at least, as final as it will be for a while), but it's only about 3 minutes longer. I'm getting it more for the fact that it's on blu-ray, as I doubt the changes will be mind-blowing. Since I last posted, I've noticed that Amazon now has it listed for March 9th, only $19.99. Good price. tinlunlau: Yeah, I saw that Hong Kong got the first film a lot faster than the US, though not on blu-ray. I'll hold out for blu, though they really would be the same release date in a perfect world. |

Got my Blu-ray special edition today (gotta love small retailers that don't care about official release dates). PQ is amazing and the package is quite nice as well: http://blog.affenheimtheater.de/en/2010/02...funimation-usa/ |

I know this is kinda old news at this point, but looking back at this thread, I realized that I never reported back after getting the blu-ray. Simply put, the first Evangelion film looks outstanding on blu-ray. Don't hesitate to pick it up if you're a fan of the series. |

I agree, it's an awesome release. PQ and AQ are top notch. Especially the sound. I was very impressed with the sound. |

The first movie is basically just a recap of the first six or seven episodes of the series, although it cuts out a lot of the pointless angst so things actually flow much better. The second movie begins a very wide divergence from the series, with the introduction of a completely new major character and other changes. They're definitely worth watching, especially if you're an Eva fan. But I think even someone who's not that big into it can enjoy the two movies as well. |

Managed to get a hold of a "temporary version" of 2.22 while I wait for the release of my UK blu. Simply put this movie is amazing! The new pilots and supporting characters bring so much more depth to the story. Was also good to see Shinji "man up". As with the 1.11 this movie looks and sounds awesome!! I have to say I know they streamlined the story to make it more straight forward but I was still left a little confused at the end. All the more reason to do a back to back re-viewing of both!!!
