'Stool Pigeon' starts filming in HK 'Beast Stalker' team returns with police story HONG KONG – Production got underway Monday in Hong Kong on "The Stool Pigeon," a new thriller featuring the team behind breakout hit "The Beast Stalker." Somewhat less of a police procedural than "Beast Stalker" and not connected in terms of story, "Stool Pigeon" is again directed by Dante Lam and scripted by Jack Ng. In a reversal of previous positions, the film stars Nick Cheung Ka-fai as a cop and Nicholas Tse Ting-fung as a police informant trying to infiltrate Triad gangs. Production is by Emperor Motion Pictures and SIL-Metropole Organisation with a budget of HK$32 million ($4.13 million). Emperor will present the project for the first time at this week's American Film Market. Delivery is scheduled for summer 2010. "The strong performance of 'The Beast Stalker' both at the local boxoffice and at international festivals last year had a positive impact on the local industry," said Albert Lee, CEO of EMP. Other actors returning from "Beast Stalker" include Miao Pu and Liu Kai-chi. http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/hr/conten...c255707af966475 |

EMP adds Stool Pigeon to star-studded AFM slate Hong Kong’s Emperor Motion Pictures has started shooting The Stool Pigeon, featuring the team behind last year’s sleeper hit The Beast Stalker, one of four high-profile action films on the company’s AFM slate. Co-produced by Sil-Metropole Organisation, the $4.13m (HK$32m) film is directed by Dante Lam and stars Nick Cheung and Nicholas Tse. The trio also worked together on The Beast Stalker, a critically-acclaimed action thriller which was a hit in Hong Kong and received wide play on the festival circuit. In The Stool Pigeon, Cheung plays a cop, while Tse takes on the role of an ex-con turned police informant who tries to infiltrate the triads. In The Beast Stalker, Tse was the cop and Cheung played a ruthless hitman. The Stool Pigeon is slated for a summer 2010 release. The film joins previously announced projects Shaolin and Jiang Wen’s Let The Bullets Fly on EMP’s slate. Shaolin is a $30m action drama, directed by Benny Chan and starring Jackie Chan, Andy Lau and Nicholas Tse, which is being filmed with the cooperation of the legendary Shaolin monastery. Jiang’s project, an action comedy in which he also stars with Chow Yun-fat and Ge You, marks the acclaimed filmmaker’s move into genre territory. EMP is also selling Derek Yee’s Triple Tap – an action drama starring Louis Koo, Daniel Wu, Charlene Choi and Li Bingbing. Currently in production, the film revolves around a cop who believes that a local hero who foils an armed robbery may not be as innocent as he at first appears. The slate marks EMP’s biggest production push in over a year. “It’s just coincidence that we have so many films to launch at the same time – we were waiting for the right elements to come together,” says EMP CEO Albert Lee. Earlier this year, EMP’s Shinjuku Incident, directed by Derek Yee and starring Jackie Chan, premiered at the Hong Kong International Film Festival. The company has also been stepping up distribution activities, co-distributing titles such as Departures and The Time Traveler’s Wife with Lark Films Distribution in Hong Kong. http://www.screendaily.com/festivals/afm/e...5007610.article |

Add Nic Tse to list of HK actors who never seem to age, I know he's still relatively young compared to Aaron Kwok or Leon Lai but the man still looks like the fresh faced teenager we all first saw in Young and Dangerous: The Prequel. Digging the poster art, by the way. |

Huayi Brothers boards EMP’s Stool Pigeon By Liz Shackleton Beijing-based Huayi Brothers Media Corporation has boarded Dante Lam’s The Stool Pigeon, produced by Hong Kong’s Emperor Motion Pictures (EMP), as an equity partner. Huayi Brothers will co-produce the film and handle sales for mainland China. “We are very excited to welcome Huayi Brothers on board Stool Pigeon. Huayi Brothers and EMP worked together well on The Message and are currently collaborating on our blockbuster Shaolin.
