Well, I can't be the ONLY one who got this email.

Anime North Email

Anime North 2012 will be held on the weekend of May 25-27 at the Toronto Congress Center, 650 Dixon Road, and at the Doubletree International Plaza Hotel, 655 Dixon Rd. (directly across the street).
The Anime North 2012 website is now up at www.animenorth.com. It will be updated regularly as new information becomes available.

Registration
Pre-Registration for Anime North 2012 will be opening Jan 02, 2012 at 12:01AM.

The Registration webpage (http://tinyurl.com/AnorthReg) has full details on purchasing your admissions to Anime North 2012 in advance, either by credit card through our online Registration website or by mailing in the Registration forms on our webpage.
Note: starting this year, Friday-Only, Saturday-Only, and Sunday-Only admissions are available through pre-registration.

In addition, you can pre-order Anime North T-shirts.

Tickets for the Saturday Brunch and Moonlight Ball will be available later in 2012.

If you have any questions, please email registration@animenorth.com.

Attendance Cap
Anime North will be imposing an attendance cap on the convention starting in 2012, to deal with overcrowding issues.
A total of 15,000 Weekend/Group admissions and 5,000 of each of the single-day only admissions will be sold for 2012.

We cannot guarantee that any Weekend or Saturday-only admissions will be available for purchase at the door of the convention; we strongly recommend you purchase your Weekend or Saturday-only admissions through pre-registration when it opens. Friday-only and Sunday-only admissions will be available for purchase at the door of the convention.

For more information, go to http://tinyurl.com/AnorthRegCap

We hope to see you at the con in 2012.

Cleaned up the spacing; whoever did the spacing in the original email should be sacked.

So... Yeah, discuss that stuff here!

> 25% of the tickets for people buying single days

that's absolutely insane, it's either someone derping hard or a dramatic money grab

> Friday-only and Sunday-only admissions will be available for purchase at the door of the convention.

I love how they state that as a fact, are they actually not selling the tickets for fri & sun on pre-reg? or do they just know noone buys individual days? weird wording

>anyways, to my main concern

I guess this is fine, but should we freak out about it? realistically I doubt 15,000 people could be worried about this, but at the same time I think we can all agree that this event is something we all look forward too all year. When is our first club meeting? I certainly propose we try and take money for pre-reg at our very first meeting of 2012, register that night, then maybe put together a straglers list in accordance with THIS over the next couple weeks of club.

does everyone agree with this? or would people rather avoid paying till later? I know this time of year is hard, i'll certainly be paying now, but if we aren't going to do the group order the first week i'll just pay independently, it's only $5 more.

anyways, hoping to hear some feedback!

I think that they know that Saturday is super popular, so they don't want HUGE lineups for reg then. Makes sense, but they could be clearer on the wording.

I don't think they'll hit the cap either, but it'd still be better to get it in ASAP. I dunno about doing it day one; we can probably give people a few weeks and it'd be fine; end of January for SURE, though. But hey, that's more up to everyone. Maybe have it week 2, and just have week 1 to tell people to bring money.

I don't think they will hit the cap either but you never know. However just so we can be safe and make sure that the group of us gets registered, I will send in the registration and money at the END of Jan as opposed to waiting until later like we have before. This gives people plenty of time to give me AN money as part of the group and let me know if they want a shirt or not. If they miss out well I'll see what I can do but they may be on their own.

Also I am waiting to hear back from the woman who lets us book the rooms as to when we can have our first meeting of the year in which this will be addressed.

The numbers are based off last years attendance. 21, 000 give or take. Besides, wouldn't want a fire marshal lock-out like what happened at FanExpo that one time.

Anyways... This is all fine and dandy, but before this registration and all can happen someone has to be in charge of collecting people's moolah.
Since Jeff seems so adamant, I'm sure he wouldn't mind.

Hey its that one guy...

To those that weren't at club today and missed the announcement. I am taking people's money for AN and a T-Shirt if you want one (just let me know your size you want) until the end of the month. After which I will be mailing in the registration to ensure that we are all registered. I have a datasheet to keep track of who's paid and if you want a shirt or not.

I will give contact info closer to AN and where I am staying so you can come get your badge.
You can give me the money at any time just be sure ITS BEFORE THE END OF THE MONTH or you're going to be on your own, as I'll have already sent in the money.

Cos-play ideas are welcome to be discussed below. I know I am participating in a TF2 Cosplay Group so by all means feel free to jointhat.

So does that mean I should bring in mine and Steve's pre-reg money at this week's club meeting?

Yes as this would be the last club meeting before February.

Okee dokee. I will bring $40 for me and $40 for him. That is the correct amount, I hope?

Just so everyone knows. Next week is the LAST WEEK for you to give me money. After that I will be printing off the sheets for AN and mailing it in. I have until March to get in in and I am not worried we won't get badges (we will!) but I just wanted to take care of it asap. Thanks :)

Sooooo looking forward to Anime North! I haven't fully decided on what days I'm gonna wear each costume on, but I think it will go something like this:

Thursday: Maid Mikuru (from Haruhi)
Friday: Zero Suit Samus (possible, but if not, then I will wear the Maid Mikuru costume on Friday, and the Belldandy one on Thursday)
Moonlight Ball: Belldandy (from Ah! My Goddess)
Saturday: Orihime (from Bleach)
Sunday: Kagome (and Steve will be my Inuyasha)

Yeah, I've been wanting to be Zero Suit Samus since 2009, but it's kind of a complicated story as to why it hasn't happened yet (and if I did type it, I'm sure you'd be all tl;dr :P). But this year, Laura has introduced me to a friend of hers who can make me my Zero Suit Samus costume. She's taken my measurements and I've given her the fabric I bought for it in 2009. Now it's just a matter of if she will have enough time to make it or not :)

What characters does everyone else plan on dressing up as? Anyone else plan on going to the Moonlight Ball?

My hope was to do an Engineer from Team Fortress 2, Chris Redfield from Resident Evil and possibly Lucas Lee from Scott Pilgrim but with no work that's made things difficult. So unless things change in the next little while, it'll prob be just me.

Ah yes, I know what you mean. Well, re-using your Lucas Lee costume from last year is a good way to go. This will be the third year in a row that I've worn my Kagome costume, and the second year in a row of wearing the Belldandy and Orihime costumes :D

Just thought I'd let everyone know that tickets for the Moonlight Ball are now being sold. You can only purchase them online. (And I just bought mine now :D )

I should also mention that the tickets go pretty fast, so if you plan on going, I suggest buying your ticket soon. I wanted to go last year and the year before, but they were all sold out before I even realized they were BEING sold lol :P

I won't be going to AN, but the Moonlight Ball has been good every time I went. Though it helps to go with someone of course ;]
