Just letting everyone know there will be a cap on people attending Anime North 2012. For those who don't know, Anime North [also known as AN] is an anime convention that takes place in Toronto around the summer time.

Notice to Attendees: Attendance Cap to be Enacted in 2012
As you're all no doubt aware, Anime North has been getting bigger and bigger each year for quite a while now, with each year setting a new attendance record. While this is great in a lot of ways (we love to see everyone coming out and having fun), handling all these people, getting all the attendees into and around the con without having to stand in line-ups for hours, is a huge job, especially when you're a volunteer-run event. There are also potential issues of over-crowding at our more popular events, and in the hotels in general that have to be taken seriously. Because of this, Anime North will be establishing an attendee cap starting in 2012.
The objective is to limit total attendance on any single day to 20,000 people. Taking this into account, the total number of admissions that will be sold for Anime North 2012 will be:
Weekend: 15,000
Friday-only: 5,000
Saturday-only: 5,000
Sunday-only: 5,000
Weekend and Saturday-only are the most popular admission choices, and we cannot guarantee that any of these admissions will be available for purchase at the door of the convention; we strongly recommend you purchase your Weekend or Saturday-only admissions through pre-registration when it opens Jan 02, 2012. Friday-only and Sunday-only admissions (which are much less popular) will be available for purchase at the door of the convention, and will also be available through pre-registration this year.
Also, deadlines for pre-registration through the regular mail, and group registrations will be moved up in 2012. Full details on pre-registering for Anime North 2012 will be updated on the Registration website well in advance of the Jan 02, 2012 opening.

You might ask why Anime North does not simply move to a larger venue. We have looked at possible other locations, but so far, they have had drawbacks that would affect the convention: insufficient nearby hotel rooms, limited public transit access, lack of smaller programming space necessary for many of our events, or higher venue fees that would have to be passed on to the attendees. Finally, there are limits on how large a convention our volunteer staff can handle.

We wish to notify our attendees of the planned attendance cap well in advance to help you make your plans for attending the con in 2012. We look forward to seeing you next year.

This is posted on their website HERE

Anyone looking to pre-register should probably do that ASAP. This convention is quite popular.
I wanted to post this information in an Anime North thread but... there was none. Sorry. :/

And you said that it was just a bad rumor. Don't worry, we are starting our Pre Reg drive on Wednesday and the thread will be up after or during the meeting.

At the time you asked me Rob, it was hearsay from a con-staff member. That was what... June? Geez.

Alright Brad, we should be alright anyways. Pre-reg doesn't start till January ;)

Well I got that from the site itself last year when looking at registration. Anyways I think we should be able to have to pre-reg done by January/February to avoid the cap. The big problem with the cap is the 5000 per day, I thought they had more then that last year...

So I was right (as the cap is 5000 per to a total of 15000) but I wonder if that includes the people who just stood outside the TTC last year?

I think standing outside is fine, I believe the cap is for things such as the Dealers Room and any Panels occuring at the DT.
Still, our group will be fine. We'll get the pre-reg done early. JUST BE SURE IF YOU ARE GOING TO PRE-REG WITH US, YOU MAKE YOUR PAYMENT ON TIME! Otherwise you are on your own.

Furthermore it was posted that a "CAP" would be implemented on AN's website last year for this year.

It wouldn't, since they didn't pay. It's hard to count that many people that are just outside. After all, you could be counting doubles of the people who actually paid.

Probably, but until the pre-reg opens, there isn't much we can do but make people knowledgeable about it.

And knowledge is half the battle... The other half is getting a ticket before they run out.

We can also gather up the names of people and hope prices haven't gone up.

I hope not however, even if they have I'd still want to make sure I have my ticket for Fri-Sun. AN is one con I look forward to each year.

Here's how it typically happens:
We sign up as a group. One person (group leader) gets all the forms. Then they must meet up with everyone who was in the group to give them their forms. THE OTHER PEOPLE DO NOT GO INTO THE LINEUP! From there, you do whatever.
Years ago we did hotels as well, but that was a HUGE pain in the ass, so we have people arrange their own hotel. Though people are welcome to go their own groups via the club as well... Hell, its encouraged; who wants to room with strangers when you can room with strangers FROM ANIME CLUB. Or you can... Like... Get to know people in club.
