September 25th is Internet Safety Day. While mostly aimed at educating kids, I thought it'd be neat to share how to protect/help our computers while online; what anti-viruses we use/like, ad-blocking extensions on our internet browser, what protects you from bad stuff online, etc, you get the idea. And hey, why not say what you like/dislike about what you use. The purpose of this thread is NOT for calling people wanks. It is to educate, and help give people an idea of what else is out there and try new stuff instead of sticking with the only program/etc they know of. |

Wanna see if you have Spyware on your computer but don't want to download scary programs to do it? If you're running Windows 7 (and probably Vista can do this as well) press the windows key and type "Resource Monitor" and press Enter~ Open up the Network Tab and then the Network Activity Tab~ This menu is my favourite thing in the world. It says what programs are currently sending stuff to where on the internet. Normal processes are things like System or the name of your browser (firefox.exe in my case) or Svchost.exe (network stuffs) It also tells you where it's sending~ For example, since I have Facebook open right now, and facebook is annoyingly nosey and sending all sorts of browsing data to it's servers so it's ads are more accurate, the network activity tab is telling me it's constantly sending stuff to facebook urls. If you've got programs sending stuff over your network that you don't want to be doing stuff, use the appropriate means to disable/uninstall/delete them! ^.^ Happy Browsing! |

Internet safety tip: Use proper english and learn the difference between "your" and "you're", "there", "their" and "they're". More and more people are caring about it and they'll save you from tons of harassment. |

Oddly enough, I can vouch for that. I've seen how... um... obsessed and angry people can get at others for abuse of grammar. Quite scary! |
