that guy.

So I want to hear ideas for club next year, like theme day ideas, outside activities, and of course membership drives. I wish to try and force more new shows onto the club, so we don't get the same shows shown for weeks at a time, but maybe have a show that we will follow for maybe 2 or three straight weeks. Another idea is more theme days, with the idea being that we show themes that aren't usually present in club, like sports, or mysteries. Anybody got any other ideas?
Context isn't always a good thing.

More outings outside of club meetings would be fun, its just tough to decide what to do for em (and a lot of people hardly seem interested in it).
More new shows, definitely. Same with theme days.

The Club Adventures were fun, but I agree with Luke, it was hard to get like... people's schedules together, and I was super indecisive about dates and times and things, so I think just like... pick some days and say; THIS IS WHAT WE'RE DOING AND WHEN~! And make it super clear to people~

I think like, going to see movies and things would work out well, since generally, movies are during times when there are no classes, and they come with pre-organized timeslots~ So I'd suggest doing that.

Also, thinking back on how the voting and stuff went, there was usually a lot of stuff that got a LOT of votes this year, compared to last year, so... it was hard to like... mix up the stuff that was voted upon, just because there were so many things that we were SO CLOSE to watching, but missed out on it by like, a vote or two~ So I kept wanting to give everything like... second and third and fourth chances~

I can hear My Inner Rob saying "Mark! You need to be more decisive with your leadership!" Hahaha~ But oh well, we had fun, didn't we?
Except for that one time when we watched Freezing.
Let's not watch that again, okay?

You guys should like, cosplay to club sometime or something. Just sayin'~

Jeff's proposed Format:

• no full theme days

• no restrictions on voting

• club officers have no control of what's to be watched

• 4 voted shows in a meeting, nominations can be submitted in person with verbal description, or by verbal & visual (submitted via forums/etc. I feel like seeing the animation is an important peice of the puzzle)

• last 40 min of meeting hosted by a different member (anyone, sign up sheet at start of month for next 4 meetings)

• Theme days could use the above format, or take half the day, i'm not opposed to "Valentines/St.Patricks/etc. but our gundam days have always been a huge turn-off

TL;DR at the end of the day were here to keep the users happy. if everyone votes up Medabots, then that's the show the most people want to watch, but it's certainly our job as an anime club to show new things to those interested, I feel this format allows for that. I'd also be interested in brainstorming a way to incorperate a "this season" section, for first episodes of new animes, maybe this could be the first show of the night? it definitely deserves some consideration.

I think it's time we review fanshawe's rights/etc. around suspending/removing people from our meeting room. Everyone can agree that last years noise problem was detrimental, and it would be favorable to be able to take action as a deterrent

Tell those kids who are playing Yu-Gi-Oh and yelling all the time to shut the fuck up!

Or better yet - tell em' to go start a club where the theme is to yell to the point where its obnoxious and play childrens card games ...

I still purpose my hat idea if you guys are willing to try it.

I like what jeffs saying about getting other members involved in presenting.
The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who, in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know my name is the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon you!

Hey its that one guy...

I agree to most of what is being said here, changes def have to occur to try and appease everyone, although I am aware we can't appease everyone nor can we tell everyone what to do. I am open for discussion however but it def annoys me when the females we do have in club leave because we end up watching the same stuff over and over. Even I found myself bored sitting in the back watching anime I had no interest in (yes I did vote) but it doesn't matter because half of club was like, "lets watch this mech, that mech, this mech" and frankly it seemed like we were having mech week every other week. That's going to change. Theme days are rare, I'd be down with having it once a month if that, or during a special occasion like say Christmas.

This is what the main problem is currently with the votes. Not so much how we vote as it is, what is brought up. We rely on what people bring us currently, so we show what people bring. I like mecha, Graham likes mecha, and that is what we had on us. Now I know I can't force people to bring stuff in. So I'm going to just download animes from the list of AMV Hells and put up those that seem appropriate. It's a decent mix of stuff, and I'll skip all the EVA and Haruhi since I believe everyone who wants to see it has.

I appreciate what Brad has said here. However, I'd like to add that we really shouldn't be treated differently in the club environment because we are females. If we had tailored the voting or the anime we watch to compliment us more, more of the guys would probably leave and that's definitely not what we are trying to do. Yes, I do groan when we watch mechs or (I especially get upset) when a certain anime gets voted up because of panty shots, (except for Highschool of the Dead, love that one.) I guess what I'm trying to say is that we should be more mindful of the mixed genders in the club, and that goes for both the boys and the girls. (By which I mean, as a vast generality, guys like mechs as much as girls like plot driven, non-panty shot animes so why should they not get to watch what they want?)

Some animes that I thought both the girls and the guys appreciated but we never watched more than 5 episodes of:

Ouran
Hell Girl
Baka Test (sp?)
Highschool of the Dead
Squid Girl (Ok, I complained about this one a little myself but that was just me)

The others escape me right now but it also was nearly 3 months ago.

Oh totally and I am not trying to not please the males just to please the females, merely I just want balance. I'd like to try to please everyone despite the fact that might be harder then first anticipated.

There is a bit of a bias when it comes to "boy shows" vs "girlie shows". It can't be helped much, as the majority of the club-goers are male. Mech is one of my fav genres, though I like a bunch of other kinds of anime too. It was hard going week after week to a club hoping to see something different and instead seeing the same... uhm........ moeee/pantieeees/12yr olds/etc.
Not trying to bash it or anything, just sayin' what I noticed. I respect the fact that we watched those things because they were voted upon as a group.
Though at one point I actually stopped caring about what we'd watch and instead went just to see people. ...There, I said it.

Also, I think the club needs to consider its stance on J-LiveAction. Some really love it, and some... not so much.

TL;DR : The club shouldn't be any different because there are boys and girls here, but you better not forget there are both girls and boys here!

everyone has different tastes, lor touched on it briefly, but we don't need to consider gender even a little, telling me I don't like story because i'm a man is a little silly, and probably half the guys in club hate mecha, either way, I know you didn't mean any offence, so no worries.

we've thought about breaking up voting into genres, but at the end of the day the things that get the most votes are what the most people want to watch, there are really only a few things we can do to balance voting:

- change how we vote (one vote per person would do wonders)
- change how we present informatio n (more pictures and information for new anime will help)

as I mentioned before, having different people present 2 episodes they like at the end of every meeting would be a great remedy to this problem, while keeping everything diplomatic

The problem with live action or j-dramas is finding show that are 1)subbed, 2)not over 30 minutes III)??????? 4) Profit. Although I guess we can try to find some stage shows to watch too.... *cough* IXA Restaurant *cough* PoT *cough*

I agree with the one vote thing though I'd expect a lot of complaints about that. I guess it would depend on the number of anime series being voted upon however.

The one vote thing could work. I'm just mostly worried about enforcing it.
Hopefully people will be adults about it and not try n' screw it over.

We also should limit the number of anime that gets put up for vote, and better description, yadda yadda yadda...

that doesn't even make sense, if you take a few seconds to consider it im sure you'd become aware of how difficult it would be to diplomatically cut off people submitting anime every week,

Maybe one submission per person? I don't think we break that too often anyways

...I thought we were scraping the barrel trying to find stuff to put up. At least it sure seemed that way sometimes.
The same people always brought in things to watch [you know who you are], and the club relied on them. Having the 1 submission rule might leave us with slim pickins some days. Although, different people were bringing in stuff near the end of the year. So... it has potential to work.

Jeff, I think what Luke meant is:
Whoever would be running the club that day could submit stuff as well... but if the list of submissions exceeds a certain number, then the leader would take their animes out. Le yoink! And mabie they'd roll over to the next week or something. Also, Gurren Lagann is pink in the anime.

Something like that.

Though they were less frequent near the end of the year, we would get days when we would have almost 20 anime to put up, and a lot of them first episode. That cut out quite a chunk of time. Though you're idea there could work, Lor...
I was more thinking:
Anime list to be voted on will not exceed a certain number (say, 12-15) in order to get things moving along quicker; with one vote per person, it should speed it up considerably. Also, no it isn't. =p

Lets make a program that randomly picks shit from a giant list!

We relied on a magic 8 ball affectionately named Jamie to help me decide what it was okay to fap to. So why not randomize shit when we're lacking material anyways?
