So, as ussual, I have come up with an idea of questionable validity. Anyways, this time, it's about posting the stats at the end of battles. Traditionally, it must be a member of the Staff* who does this. A regular member cannot post the stats at the end of a battle as much as an unqualified user cannot be a battle writer on Genome. Now I remember that, if I am correct, at some point, only the staff of Genome Inc. could write battles. It is likely that I am wrong. Regardless of my mediocre intelligence, I think that perhaps it would be good to change the situation here on Card Battles, albeit only a little. As you can immediately see by going to the battles forum, only one Staff member is actively posting stats for the battles. There are four staff members. Now, it is perfectly reasonable that not all of them can be completely active on the site due to their circumstances in their own personal lives. As such, it is not in my place to demand of them time that they may lack. However, I don't think it is good to allow one member out of the whole site to carry the weight of all the battles being held (and then some) on his shoulders. So, I was pondering, if perhaps, the staff would be willing to consider doing something to change that situation. I think, that, perhaps, it would be in everyone's best interest to qualify other members to be able to post stats during battles, even if it only be one other member. Just like when it comes to writing battles, not everyone should have this privilage. However, it would help out the battle process if the Staff could select certain members to also be capable of posting stats. These 'stat posters' would not be considered members of the staff, nor would they be able to access any information that a normal member can't. However, they would be distinguished in the fact that they too can post battle statistics at the end of each round. I suppose that there should be certain qualities that need to be met by each member that is selected to help out in the battle arena. What it takes to be a stat poster is up to the Staff, however i think it would be in everyones best interest because it would speed up the battle process, help relieve the pressure on any one given member at a time, and it would also raise morality, as it would be a privilage to become one of these members. So tell me, what do you guys think of having non Staff members be Battle Assistants in the battle arena? *Disclaimer: By the term 'Staff' I am referring to all: Administrators, Moderators, and Card Makers. |

Finally, someone who addressed this! It is in our best interest to keep DF from exploding. Any volunteers? Oh, yeah, bravo. Two ideas in one week. |

1: I believe that, at one point, it was only Walrus who wrote battles, which then expanded to the staff members. However, non-staff were allowed by the time I joined. 2: This is definitely something to be looked into. 3: DF exploding would be fantastic & cause for a national holiday.

Yes! I was hoping this would come up! And, while I know I'm probably not qualified, I would enjoy posting stats, methinks. However, I'll leave that decision up to the staff. |

I would completely enjoy posting stats, provided I'm qualified for the job. |

1: Indeed. Originally walrus was the sole poster of battles. Then it expanded to the rest of the staff/Cool&DM. Then walrus was out of commission and DM was doing most of the writing. That led to me asking for and getting permission from DM to write battles, which was then followed by others getting permission as well. 2: Really, from my view, the only reason we don't already have any non-staff referees is because no one's asked. I see no reason why we can't or wouldn't do the same here with Refs as we have with battle writers at GI. The only issue if any that I can see is that we'd need to put some time into testing applicants and then keeping an eye on them, but surely we can manage that as well. Another thought is that we possibly might also wish to limit non-staff refs from doing their own battles. 3: DF does not explode. DF fires orbital lasers that make you explode. |

How would aa testing process go about? Maybe we could ref part of one of our current battles (provided it doesn't involve a coin flip, that should be taken care of by mods) or maybesomeone else's battle. |

Assuming you are talking about Anti-Aircraft guns, I suppose you'd need an AA gun, an airplane, a great deal of space, and someone stupid enough to drive the airplane during the testing. If you meant 'how would a testing process go about', then what ZD said. You would need significant knowledge in math, what with adding/subtracting, understand how most abilities work, and other battle mechanics. |

So a test then? Sounds reasonable. Hey DF, remember the XE battle we were going to have? Maybe they can practice reffing that. Each person (except for me I guess) can reff three rounds. From ther you can decide wether they are worthy or not. Or you know, you can maybe post a fake battle and have them ref it.

While the test is a good idea, I think we'd need more than 3 rounds as a test. It'd probably be best to have each person who wants to ref do at least 1 battle with one of the staff as a participant. That way the staff member can correct them and the battle can go on with minimal interruption. I think the idea is great, and is definitely something we should look into. I'm especially sure DF will probably enjoy having a bit of a break.  |
