| Welcome to Europeia! So what the heck is Europeia anyways? Can I join? So, I came here representing another region? I do not want to become a citizen. Where should I go? What offices are there for people to be elected into? What is there for me to do in Europeia? That answers most of my immediate questions. What if I have any more? |

From last night: <Writinglegend> Wait, we're doing something on IRC for the Special Election now? ![]() <CptCarrot> *waggles eyebrows* <Mousebumples> yes <Mousebumples> because i announced i about 2 minues ago <Writinglegend> Oh xD <Mousebumples> *minutes ago <Mousebumples> after i got the goahead from DH * Writinglegend didn't see <Writinglegend> w00t <Mousebumples> now, to go promote in EuroChat and RMB and Shoutbox <Mousebumples> unless someone else wants to do that * Writinglegend gives a thumbs up <Writinglegend> Bad timing :x * Writinglegend doesn't want to do that <Mousebumples> awww <Mousebumples> but you're president now! <Mousebumples> you do everything! <CptCarrot> Doesn't he deserve a break he did everything as VP ![]() <Mousebumples> wasn't he napping when he was VP? <Mousebumples> ;)) <Writinglegend> Was I? D: <Writinglegend> Maybe it was all a dream and it never happened.... <Writinglegend> A figment of my imagination. <Mousebumples> anyhow, what are you guy thinking about the Senate By-Election? <Mousebumples> it's early voting time yet, so hard to draw any conclusions <Mousebumples> currently 1-3, in favor of cool spring <Writinglegend> It's the cliche newcomer v veteran battle. <Writinglegend> (Not in a bad way) <Mousebumples> fair enough <Mousebumples> do you guys have any feeling on who is more likely to win? <Mousebumples> the AAC internal poll was a dead heat, so I'm not sure, honestly |

<Mousebumples> Current vote is 9-13, in favor of Cool Spring. <Mousebumples> Anyone else around to comment on the status of the Senate Race? * Writinglegend waves <Mousebumples> Any thoughts, WL? <Mousebumples> I'm wondering if this a reaction, in some way, to the fact that there was a lot of discussion about how there's a need to nuture the development of newer members <Writinglegend> I think the fact that Cool Spring has yet to be elected to the Senate is a heavy reason why he's in the lead thus far. <Mousebumples> Giving him a try since he hasn't had a chance yet? <Writinglegend> Not to say that he doesn't have a good platform nor isn't being voted based on his platform. <Writinglegend> But people want to give him a shot. <Writinglegend> And it's playing out in this vote thus far. <Mousebumples> True. And I think it speaks well to him that he participated as a Senate Aide previously. <Writinglegend> I also think PASD's personality can rub people the wrong way. <Writinglegend> So maybe he's losing votes on that? <Writinglegend> *some <Mousebumples> That's possible, I suppose. * Mousebumples pings Bon, CptCarrot, Crimson, Fajihas, stupid3700, Tim <Crimson> Sup <Mousebumples> Any thoughts on the Senate By-Election ? <Writinglegend> Hey Crimson o/ <Mousebumples> not that WL and i can't talk endlessly, but i figured having more people chime in would be good too ![]() <Crimson> \o Hey Writinglegend <stupid3700> huh? <Mousebumples> We've got a Senate By-Election on-going <Mousebumples> any thoughts? <Crimson> Mousebumples, I don't really have a comment about it. I don't follow politics. <Mousebumples> fair enough <Mousebumples> i know it's not for everyone <Crimson> Is this in RL or is Euro having a senate race? <Mousebumples> Europeia <Mousebumples> one of our Senators secured the Vic Presidency in the last election <Mousebumples> so now we're having a By-Election to fill his seat <Crimson> Oh, yeah. I don't know anything about Euro's politicians. <Mousebumples> sorry, crimson - i wasn't sure if you were in euro or not <Mousebumples> welcome, Fort! <Crimson> Can guest view the campaign? <Mousebumples> guest? probably not <Mousebumples> if you apply for diplomatic status, maybe? <Fortunado> ohayō gozaimasu <Mousebumples> i think the oval room has diplomatic access, but i know the voting booth does not <Mousebumples> polls close later tonight <Writinglegend> :?) <Crimson> Who are the candidates, and what do they stand for? <Crimson> I can give you an opinion off of that. <Mousebumples> i don't know if it's that simple in euro politics <Mousebumples> or, at least, not for senate races <Crimson> We just elect ministers in TSP <Mousebumples> ah <Mousebumples> typically, our senate platforms involve reviewing current legislation before the senate (or hot political subjects within the region) and stating opinions on those subjects <Mousebumples> hey, kraken! <Kraketopia> I heard there was a discussion of some sort ![]() <Kraketopia> Hey Mouse <Writinglegend> Hey, Kraken. <Kraketopia> Hey WL <Mousebumples> crimson, in Europeia, we elect Pres/VP (probably similar to WAD/Vice Delegate ... although the WAD position isn't associated with the Presidency) and also a Senate of at least 5 members <Mousebumples> but the President then appoints a cabinet of ministers, who are approved/confirmed by the Senate <Crimson> Sounds like a sound system. <Mousebumples> haha <Mousebumples> kraken, any thoughts on the race so far? <Kraketopia> Well, it's certainly surprising. <Mousebumples> Currently 9-13, in favor of Cool Spring <Crimson> In TSP we elect the Delegate+VD as one ticket, then whoever wins office for the ministry of their choice becomes a member of the cabinet <Kraketopia> Cool Spring has generally been out of favour in the past, but in this election he's really overtaken PASD beyond anyone's expectations <Kraketopia> I think the fear of PASD is a lack of seeing him as a serious candidate, since in the past year and a half at least, he's never taken on a serious role in Euro. <Mousebumples> We still have 10 hours left to vote, and the race is definitely close enough to have PASD make a comeback. I hope to see more people voting, but that's just the pro-democracy side of me and less about wanting one candidate or another (specifically) to win. <Kraketopia> So people are perhaps willing to overlook his greater experience and give Cool Springs a shot, who is clearly serious about the role. <Kraketopia> I'm not suggesting PASD isn't serious about the role though. <Mousebumples> That's a very good point, Kraken. And, yes, I agree that PASD is serious about the role. I also wondered above, if there might be some preference to get some newer players involved in Euro politics. <Mousebumples> As was discussed in various places, there's currently a lot of Senate/Cabinet overlap due to a perceived lack of candidates to work with. We can't make progress in getting new players involved if we won't elect new players to the Senate. <Mousebumples> Additionally, we have a very experience-heavy Senate right now - you (Kraken), Mal, Drecq, and MacEntire. That could be viewed as a good group of Senators to mix a newer legislator into. <Kraketopia> Right. |

I hope panels some day return to invited experts participating in a structured discussion. These inclusive free-for-alls don't glean much insight. |
