Welcome to Europeia!
So what the heck is Europeia anyways? Europeia is a region of NationStates that follows the principles of republicanism, meaning the officials of Europeia are elected by the people, of the people, and usually for the people.
Can I join? Of course. Of course. All you have to do is register an account. Validate said account (it should send an email to the email address you have provided, if it did not pester us about it here). Your account in the beginning will automatically be placed in the non-citizen usergroup. You can change that by applying for citizenship. The application, for security purposes, usually takes a few days to be processed by our forum administrators. But once that is done you can see it all and do it all as a full citizen of Europeia .
So, I came here representing another region? I do not want to become a citizen. Where should I go? First you have to register an account. Then you have to validate said account (it should send an email to the email address you have provided, if it did not pester us about it here). Your account in the beginning will automatically be placed in the Non-Citizen Usergroup. Then you can apply for diplomatic masking.
What offices are there for people to be elected into? Well, first of all there are three Branches of Government. There is the Executive, the Legislature, and the Judiciary. The Executive is responsible for the day-to-day governance, the Legislative writes and manages the laws of Europeia, and the Judiciary has the Power to review laws to see if they comply with our Constitution as well as hear trials against accused citizens. The Executive is made up of the President, the Vice President and their Cabinet. The President and the Vice President are elected together every 70 days. They then nominate other citizens to fill the Cabinet Posts. Those nominated are then confirmed by the Senate. For more on the Executive click here. The Legislative is made up of the Senate and the Citizens' Assembly. The Senate is made up of a minimum of five citizens who are elected into office every 70 days, exactly 35 after the presidential elections. The Senate writes or repeals laws, confirms Ministers and Judges and can remove any elected official. The Citizens' Assembly writes pre-Legislation, which is then passed on to the Senate for approval. Members of the Assembly are not elected. Instead every citizen is automatically a Member. For more on the Legislature click here. The Judiciary is made up of the High Court, which answers legal questions and hears criminal and civil cases, looking to the laws of the Republic, both statutory and common, to render judgment. It is made up of the Chief Justice and three Associate Justices. The Justices serve for a 120-day term. Instead of being elected, they are nominated by the President and then confirmed by the Senate. For more on the Judiciary click here.
What is there for me to do in Europeia? If the game of high politics is not your cup of tea you can always just hang around doing fun things. Or if you want to put some work in, there is always the Civil Service, the Navy, and the Citizens' Assembly. As citizen, you can join the Civil Service (or CSO). The CSO assigns its Members (called Assistant Ministers or AMs) to the different Ministries to help out the Ministers. As AM you can do many things and garner great accolades. Most of the great politicians of Europeia started in the CSO. Once you become a citizen, you can also sign up to become a Sailor in our Navy, going out on raids, defending Europeia, or helping our allies defend themselves. Or, if reading and creating Law is more your speed, you can always join the Citizens' Assembly. If all of that did not sound like enough fun we have Spam Games, reasoned and less reasoned debate, Newspapers, Roleplays, and so much more.
That answers most of my immediate questions. What if I have any more? You could always check the Newcomer's Handbook to see if the answer to your question is there. It may even be in the FAQ (or Frequently Asked Questions). If neither answer your question, you can ask our admins here.

The Ministry of the Interior is proud to present... A Newcomer's Perspective Fortunado
Calvin Coolidge: Why did you join Europeia? Anything that made the region stand out from the rest of the world?
Fortunado: hmm. oh that was a while back... (talks like elderly person) You see when I was a young boy getting recruitment telegrams... it wasn't any special reason. It was a bigger region, so I thought it might be interesting. It was also very friendly when you get into it so maybe that helped as well.
Calvin Coolidge: What has your reaction been to our forum?
Fortunado: step 1.)"Hmm. oh hey they are having an anniversery. Let's go get some amontillado at the barbecue." *finds bartender, marks him with the mark of death. Tortures him daily.*
step 2.) after that point I just made it my point to get involved as much as I can. gain people's trust. then take over Europeia. maybe laugh maniacally a couple of times. Calvin Coolidge: What would you say has been the highlight of your experience in the region so far?
Fortunado: hmm. weekly games I guess (second might be the barbecue ) Very nice to see us just having fun during weekends.
Calvin Coolidge: You've run in a few different elections since you've been here, what would you say you've learned from those?
Fortunado: I learned how to make a platform, How to research information on Europeia, I also feel it might've helped if I was on during the election (although when life calls whatchagunnado). I make sure to not feel dejected during the elections. Be very optimistic. I mean hey I could've at least had a run-off by one more vote. For all of you potential runners don't be afraid when they ask tough questions. They aren't trying to crush your spirit into indefinable specks. they are as much trying to help you as they are trying to learn how you stand on an issue.
Calvin Coolidge: How would you describe Europeia's environment?
Fortunado: friendly, very active members, supportive, easy to manipulate ,considerate of others.
Calvin Coolidge: How do you feel Europeia integrates newcomers?
Fortunado: It just starts with being a friendly and inviting nation. the best way to integrate someone is to be there when they need help.
Calvin Coolidge: What resources did you find useful in getting yourself accommodated to our region?
Fortunado: Hmm. well I specifically started in senate aide. while joining MoFa and MoWA I made sure to specifically join the academies. very helpful.
Calvin Coolidge: Thoughts on the Citizens' Assembly as an integration tool?
Fortunado: I feel that any and all programs are integration tools. If you want to be in the Bar or CA or senate aide, do it. It's just about finding the thing which gets you. Go for it. Even if you are a little shaky on something, try it out... also give me cookies and bacon. "The praise of virtue is action"
Calvin Coolidge: Anything else you'd like to say to all those considering joining Europiea, or anyone else who may read this?
Fortunado: can we get the cobwebs out of the bureau of roleplay? we just started it and the office for getting the cobwebs out of the bureau has an office to get cobwebs out of itself. I think when it comes to any region roleplay is huge.a rough judging of the demographic is that anyone in nationstates is in it for roleplay (cuz it's not like their is much gameplay outside of it). if we neglect roleplay we might as well sign Europeia away. And carrot, You stated during my platform that somebody would finally be able to stab anumia. I already did. he was on during the ides of march long enough for me to send him a little PM.

"Tell me, is there anything worn under the kilt?" "No, lassie, it's all in good working order!"
Motivations Desiderata ~ By Max Ehrmann Go placidly amid the noise and the haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence.
As far as possible, without surrender, be on good terms with all persons. Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even to the dull and the ignorant; they too have their story. Avoid loud and aggressive persons; they are vexatious to the spirit.
If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain or bitter, for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself. Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans. Keep interested in your own career, however humble; it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.
Exercise caution in your business affairs, for the world is full of trickery. But let this not blind you to what virtue there is; many persons strive for high ideals, and everywhere life is full of heroism. Be yourself. Especially do not feign affection. Neither be cynical about love, for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment, it is as perennial as the grass.
Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth. Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune. But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings. Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.
Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself. You are a child of the universe no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here. And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.
Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to be. And whatever your labors and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life, keep peace in your soul.
With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be cheerful. Strive to be happy. - By Max Ehrmann The Thousanth Man ~ Rudyard Kipling 0NE man in a thousand, Solomon says. Will stick more close than a brother. And it's worth while seeking him half your days If you find him before the other. Nine hundred and ninety-nine depend On what the world sees in you, But the Thousandth Man will stand your friend With the whole round world agin you.
'Tis neither promise nor prayer nor show Will settle the finding for 'ee. Nine hundred and ninety-nine of 'em go By your looks, or your acts, or your glory.
But if he finds you and you find him, The rest of the world don't matter; For the Thousandth Man will sink or swim With you in any water.
You can use his purse with no more talk Than he uses yours for his spendings, And laugh and meet in your daily walk As though there had been no lendings.
Nine hundred and ninety-nine of 'em call For silver and gold in their dealings; But the Thousandth Man he's worth 'em all Because you can show him your feelings.
His wrong's your wrong, and his right's your right, In season or out of season. Stand up and back it in all men's sight With that for your only reason!
Nine hundred and ninety-nine can't bide The shame or mocking or laughter, But the Thousandth Man will stand by your side To the gallows-foot - and after!

I do dabble in inter-dimensional rifts as well. Have you tried going to the void? I own real estate there. Oh! Don't do hell though. Without cell coverage (no cells in hell) you need to get a copy of the necronomicon from Cthulu but he wants item A. and to get A you need to trade for B which you get from another guy for C. One large fetch quest. Do you have vegan interdimensional tears?
