| Welcome to Europeia!
So what the heck is Europeia anyways? Europeia is a region of NationStates that follows the principles of republicanism, meaning the officials of Europeia are elected by the people, of the people, and usually for the people.
Can I join? Of course. Of course. All you have to do is register an account. Validate said account (it should send an email to the email address you have provided, if it did not pester us about it here). Your account in the beginning will automatically be placed in the non-citizen usergroup. You can change that by applying for citizenship. The application, for security purposes, usually takes a few days to be processed by our forum administrators. But once that is done you can see it all and do it all as a full citizen of Europeia .
So, I came here representing another region? I do not want to become a citizen. Where should I go? First you have to register an account. Then you have to validate said account (it should send an email to the email address you have provided, if it did not pester us about it here). Your account in the beginning will automatically be placed in the Non-Citizen Usergroup. Then you can apply for diplomatic masking.
What offices are there for people to be elected into? Well, first of all there are three Branches of Government. There is the Executive, the Legislature, and the Judiciary. The Executive is responsible for the day-to-day governance, the Legislative writes and manages the laws of Europeia, and the Judiciary has the Power to review laws to see if they comply with our Constitution as well as hear trials against accused citizens. The Executive is made up of the President, the Vice President and their Cabinet. The President and the Vice President are elected together every 70 days. They then nominate other citizens to fill the Cabinet Posts. Those nominated are then confirmed by the Senate. For more on the Executive click here. The Legislative is made up of the Senate and the Citizens' Assembly. The Senate is made up of a minimum of five citizens who are elected into office every 70 days, exactly 35 after the presidential elections. The Senate writes or repeals laws, confirms Ministers and Judges and can remove any elected official. The Citizens' Assembly writes pre-Legislation, which is then passed on to the Senate for approval. Members of the Assembly are not elected. Instead every citizen is automatically a Member. For more on the Legislature click here. The Judiciary is made up of the High Court, which answers legal questions and hears criminal and civil cases, looking to the laws of the Republic, both statutory and common, to render judgment. It is made up of the Chief Justice and three Associate Justices. The Justices serve for a 120-day term. Instead of being elected, they are nominated by the President and then confirmed by the Senate. For more on the Judiciary click here.
What is there for me to do in Europeia? If the game of high politics is not your cup of tea you can always just hang around doing fun things. Or if you want to put some work in, there is always the Civil Service, the Navy, and the Citizens' Assembly. As citizen, you can join the Civil Service (or CSO). The CSO assigns its Members (called Assistant Ministers or AMs) to the different Ministries to help out the Ministers. As AM you can do many things and garner great accolades. Most of the great politicians of Europeia started in the CSO. Once you become a citizen, you can also sign up to become a Sailor in our Navy, going out on raids, defending Europeia, or helping our allies defend themselves. Or, if reading and creating Law is more your speed, you can always join the Citizens' Assembly. If all of that did not sound like enough fun we have Spam Games, reasoned and less reasoned debate, Newspapers, Roleplays, and so much more.
That answers most of my immediate questions. What if I have any more? You could always check the Newcomer's Handbook to see if the answer to your question is there. It may even be in the FAQ (or Frequently Asked Questions). If neither answer your question, you can ask our admins here.

How to Be Awesome in Europeia by Mousebumples
1) Be active. I know it can sometimes be intimidating to jump into the fray here in Europeia. There's so many of us already here! Still, there are lots of "low pressure" areas where you can get your feet wet. (Examples include: Newcomer's Hall, Citizens' Assembly, Europeian Republican Navy, the Republic Square, and the Spam Zone.)
2) Ask questions. No one knows everything, so if you have questions about anything that's going on, ask! Generally Europeians are more than willing to explain things ... perhaps in greater depth or detail than you're really interested in knowing, though, to be fair.
3) Learn new things. You don't have to know how to do everything, but it never hurts to at learn enough to be generally knowledgeable about topics you're currently unfamiliar with. The Newcomer's Handbook (which is where this article is) has a bunch of articles and information about how to succeed in Europeia. The Citizens' Assembly is a great place to learn more about how to draft regional legislation. The WA Ministry is a great place to learn about World Assembly legislation. We also have a Judicial Training Center and the ERN has training available to sailors as well. (Enlist here!)
4) Get involved. It's hard to make a name for yourself if you sit in the corner waiting to be noticed. So don't wait to be noticed - go out and make others take notice! There is never a shortage of things to do in Europeia for those wanting to get involved in governmental activities, so be sure to check out the Civil Service and see what looks good to you. Feel free to join as many as you want.
5) Take initiative. Once you get involved, you'll have numerous opportunities - beyond those tasks assigned to you as an Assistant Minister! Seize opportunities when they're presented to you. Being asked to work on a project is a great opportunity to prove yourself ready for more - be it a bigger project or maybe even a Ministerial position down the road. If you're interested in legislation, don't be afraid to propose new pre-legislation in the Citizens' Assembly. Even if your pre-legislation doesn't end up going anywhere, it's a great way to show your interest in the law and hopefully get some great ideas and suggestions for your future legislative efforts.
6) Be reliable. If you say you'll do something, always try to follow through and make sure it gets done. We all understand when Real Life interferes, but you don't want to leave someone else in a lurch. Be honest and up front about it, so that other arrangements can be made.
7) Find a mentor. It's good to have someone you can bounce those semi-crazy ideas off of. Whether it's trying to figure out if you've got the right plan for a project you're working on, or if you're wondering if you should run for Senate in the upcoming elections ... It's nice to have a mentor (or mentors!) that you can turn to with questions or uncertainties. Plus, a mentor is a great person to have in your corner when Drecq threatens to punch you in the face for suggesting something we have heard 100 times before.
[Disclaimer: Drecq will not actually punch you in the face. Probably.]
8) Try new things. This is probably a better tip for after you're more comfortable in Europeia, but you don't want to get pigeonholed as "the person who's really great at X." ( ... says the person who is probably known for being 'the person who's really good at Interior' ) You can offset that perception - or, at least, add to your repertoire of skills and talents - by spreading your wings and volunteering to work as an Assistant Minister in multiple areas or by working in multiple branches of the government.
9) Be yourself. It's great to find someone you admire or want to "model your Europeian career after." However, you need to be you. Find what you like and do that because you enjoy it - not because you feel that you need to do X or Y or Z.
10) Be AWESOME! You're in Europeia already, so you've already got a head start on this one. Still, if you can follow the tips I listed above, you're on the right path to becoming an essential and integral part of our regional community.

I punched Drecq in the face for a preemptive strike. This is the Europeian equivalent of pulling the sword from the stone.
All hail our new queen!

I don't think Drecq threatens the punches, he's more of a doer that way.
