| Welcome to Europeia!
So what the heck is Europeia anyways? Europeia is a region of NationStates that follows the principles of republicanism, meaning the officials of Europeia are elected by the people, of the people, and usually for the people.
Can I join? Of course. Of course. All you have to do is register an account. Validate said account (it should send an email to the email address you have provided, if it did not pester us about it here). Your account in the beginning will automatically be placed in the non-citizen usergroup. You can change that by applying for citizenship. The application, for security purposes, usually takes a few days to be processed by our forum administrators. But once that is done you can see it all and do it all as a full citizen of Europeia .
So, I came here representing another region? I do not want to become a citizen. Where should I go? First you have to register an account. Then you have to validate said account (it should send an email to the email address you have provided, if it did not pester us about it here). Your account in the beginning will automatically be placed in the Non-Citizen Usergroup. Then you can apply for diplomatic masking.
What offices are there for people to be elected into? Well, first of all there are three Branches of Government. There is the Executive, the Legislature, and the Judiciary. The Executive is responsible for the day-to-day governance, the Legislative writes and manages the laws of Europeia, and the Judiciary has the Power to review laws to see if they comply with our Constitution as well as hear trials against accused citizens. The Executive is made up of the President, the Vice President and their Cabinet. The President and the Vice President are elected together every 70 days. They then nominate other citizens to fill the Cabinet Posts. Those nominated are then confirmed by the Senate. For more on the Executive click here. The Legislative is made up of the Senate and the Citizens' Assembly. The Senate is made up of a minimum of five citizens who are elected into office every 70 days, exactly 35 after the presidential elections. The Senate writes or repeals laws, confirms Ministers and Judges and can remove any elected official. The Citizens' Assembly writes pre-Legislation, which is then passed on to the Senate for approval. Members of the Assembly are not elected. Instead every citizen is automatically a Member. For more on the Legislature click here. The Judiciary is made up of the High Court, which answers legal questions and hears criminal and civil cases, looking to the laws of the Republic, both statutory and common, to render judgment. It is made up of the Chief Justice and three Associate Justices. The Justices serve for a 120-day term. Instead of being elected, they are nominated by the President and then confirmed by the Senate. For more on the Judiciary click here.
What is there for me to do in Europeia? If the game of high politics is not your cup of tea you can always just hang around doing fun things. Or if you want to put some work in, there is always the Civil Service, the Navy, and the Citizens' Assembly. As citizen, you can join the Civil Service (or CSO). The CSO assigns its Members (called Assistant Ministers or AMs) to the different Ministries to help out the Ministers. As AM you can do many things and garner great accolades. Most of the great politicians of Europeia started in the CSO. Once you become a citizen, you can also sign up to become a Sailor in our Navy, going out on raids, defending Europeia, or helping our allies defend themselves. Or, if reading and creating Law is more your speed, you can always join the Citizens' Assembly. If all of that did not sound like enough fun we have Spam Games, reasoned and less reasoned debate, Newspapers, Roleplays, and so much more.
That answers most of my immediate questions. What if I have any more? You could always check the Newcomer's Handbook to see if the answer to your question is there. It may even be in the FAQ (or Frequently Asked Questions). If neither answer your question, you can ask our admins here.

He's ready to take on the world
Rach Hey Calvin and welcome to the Globe or as we're called in other parts of the world "the Runes"!
CalvinCoolidge XD I didn't think you'd take me up on my offer.
Rach First I have to ask you and I'm sure our readers are curious as well, why did you choose the name of former U.S. President Calvin Coolidge and why do you use a panda for your avvie?
CalvinCoolidge I chose Calvin Coolidge because I researched the presidents a lot when I was a kid, and I liked Coolidge's way of governing. I have adapted his laissez-faire style of governing in my nation to be freedom to do pretty much anything. I use a panda as my avatar because I like pandas.
Rach How have you found Europeia so far?
CalvinCoolidge So far, I think Europeia is, for the most part, a very welcoming region. Newcomers are generally treated well, and mistakes are usually forgiven, if the person who makes the mistake works hard to fix it. There are also great chances to get involved, like the CA, or the media center, that give a lot of variety.
Rach Yes and you've taken advantage of those chances to become a Minister fairly quickly and potentially a Senator. What would you attribute your quick rise in Europeian politics to and what would you recommend to other keen newer members?
CalvinCoolidge I think the reason I've become a Minister is because of the things I just mentioned. If a newcomer works hard, and shows activity and dedication, then this region will reward that. So, that is what I would say to other newer members. If you want to succeed in Europeia, put in the effort, and you'll go far.
Rach With regards to Senate committees, how exactly do you foresee working with the executive in a closer partnership as your platform suggests?
CalvinCoolidge Well, the main thing I want to change about the committees is simply the activity level. Oftentimes, a committee would start going in an interesting direction, or ask the tough questions, but they would go nowhere, because nobody would respond.
The Executive needs to pay better attention, if that is their reason, or at least show a little effort. Senators in these committees should not let up like they have in the past. If an issue is not addressed, stick with those small changes, I think the committees could really show their full potential.
Rach So how do propose Senators should get the attention of government members who aren't replying to these questions?
CalvinCoolidge Well, the only way I saw that was effective was the public summons. If that is what it takes to make sure the Executive is held accountable, that will have to do. It should be the Executive's duty to keep the region informed, especially when the region, through the committees, are asking direct questions. If they don't answer. they deserve to be called out in public for it. Once the precedent is set up, I hope the Executive can take its cue without such tactics.
Rach Do we know if there were attempts to privately tell them to come?
CalvinCoolidge Well, the public summons did mention "attempts have been made to contact you and the Minister via Private Message" so I would have to assume that they did, but those attempts failed.
Rach How do you feel your term has gone so far with regards to communications?
CalvinCoolidge I think that this term has been a definite improvement over the terms of my last two predecessors. I'm not going to take full credit for what MinComm has accomplished, but with a daily EBC Wire, and a fairly constant stream of articles and dispatches, I certainly feel proud of what has been done, with the aim to continue this for the remainder of the term, and hopefully beyond.
Rach Last but not least because I know we're running a bit short of time here, will we eventually see President Calvin Coolidge? Not of President of the United States but of Europeia. Or at least a potential run?
CalvinCoolidge I was elected by the people of New Jersey to serve as their governor for the next three years, and that's what I plan to do.
Rach Thank you for your time Mr. Minister
CalvinCoolidge Thank you for having me.

Wow, two articles in one night. Nobody does articles like "The Globe". Except for the EBC and The Panda's Pen, of course.
