Burger King is in the process of moving to Canada by purchasing Tim Hortons. Tim Hortons is the largest "restaurant" in Canada that specializes in coffee and donuts, but has also branched into fast food. There are not many equivelants to Tim Hortons, which has 3,630 shops in Canada. Per capita, that would be 36,000 in the United States. McDonalds has 14,700 shops in the States. The deal would see a company worth 18 billion dollars and would also allow Tim Hortons to expand quicker into the United States. The main reason people believe this deal is happening is for inversion purposes. The corporate tax rate in the United States is 35% compared to 15% in Canada. By buying Tim Hortons and moving the headquarters to Canada, this would provide large savings to Burger King. But both companies are expected to argue for other benefits. As a side note: Tim Hortons was started by Toronto Maple Leaf hockey player Tim Horton. How Canadian is that? |

What I read. They were mulling the purchase not that they were. Bascially to move the BK HQ to canada to pay the lower taxes and tell the U.S treasury and their 25% to go screw themselves. To save about 10% in taxes.

Also: no one goes to BK in the US anymore. So maybe they want to still exist somewhere ? |

I'd go to Burger King occasionally if I didn't get sick every time I ate there. |

Burger King in New Zealand is of much better quality*, then so is McDonalds - but you pay much more than the US to go to both places though. The Burger King in the US is tolerable, but if there was a better fast food restaurant along the way I would go there instead. *They have a premium menu, as well as the standard one: http://www.burgerking.co.nz/our-menu/view/item/190 |

But if I want a good burger I'd go to a high end burger fast food joint like big smoke burger. Which is a better version of a five guys |

Culver's is the best fast food around me - but they're certainly not nationwide yet. (They're in maybe a dozen states?) In-N-Out Burger is good too, but so many of the chain fast food places are just not worth my time/money. |

The "inversion" issue is overrated. If you're concerned about companies dodging taxes, inversion transactions shouldn't be among your top 10 concerns. And although the combined BK/Hortons business must figure the inversion will save them a healthy chunk of money (else they wouldn't have invited the bad PR), I'm sure the deal is being driven mainly by the sorts of business synergies that are commonly cited as the justification for these sorts of deals. I have never set foot in a Tim Hortons, and I only eat at BK maybe once a year (when I'm traveling and there are no better options), so I couldn't care less about this deal. BK is bad. Tim Horton's is ok, but I wouldn't go there if there were a Dunkin' Donuts or something more local available. |

It's funny because Tim Hortons has struggled in the States but Dunkin Donuts has struggled in Canada. Regional differences or is it pride? or what?
