| Welcome to Europeia! So what the heck is Europeia anyways? Can I join? So, I came here representing another region? I do not want to become a citizen. Where should I go? What offices are there for people to be elected into? What is there for me to do in Europeia? That answers most of my immediate questions. What if I have any more? |

Ever since I've been a citizen in Europeia, since around August 2009, political parties have not been real. Yes, there have been attempts at political parties in those 5 years but none of them held a great deal of sway for very long. In the beginning of that time period there was a party dedicated to Anumia winning his term and it's opposition the Rhinoceros Party. Then, after a long period of no-parties there was one made by HEM regarding improving our Foreign Affairs standing and another made by Oliver regarding improving the legislature system via Westminister ideals. These died rather quickly, they were more advocacy groups in a Europeia that had long since abandoned political parties. Yet... now we've entered into a period that I find somewhat strange. What started out as a bit of a joke political party, has since turned into two real political parties duking it out and wielding considerable influence. More influence and power than any political party in a very long time. During the most recent Presidential election, there was essentially a DAF candidate and a LPPB (now EAAC) candidate. They did run as independents, but really they had their cake and were eating it too. I believe the reason both did not run for political parties was for the fear of losing votes to non-party members. Now, we have a debate over the recruitment of newer members to political parties. This has become all too real and I'm not sure how I really feel about it. When I first joined the LPPB it was because it was a silly party. When I am seriously politicking, I haven't been part of a political party since 2009. Since then, I've advocated against political parties. Europeia in the 5 years I've been here has above all else been about ideals that I fully concur with, which are freedoms, meritocracy and individualism. But with political parties holding a greater amount of influence I fear that we lose some of that. I'm not really sure how I fully feel, there are obviously pros and cons to having influential political parties. But with newer members being recruited right into political parties and starting out there... that will entrench them even further. Although, there are people who would argue that the N.C.P. era was one of the greatest interest, political activity and development. Perhaps, this is such an era. One in which we have shown we have learned not to exhibit the behaviour shown by some in what is considered to be a nastier era. What do you guys think? |

I dont think either party is really that influential. They just look it. The people in those parties will vote how they would have voted otherwise, no matter what their parties say. That could change though and I really hope it doesnt. I dont want 6 out of 10 people to have the ability to deliver the votes of all 10. |

I've now seen 3 LBPP members say they don't like having political parties in Europeia. I don't get why people do that. If you don't support a system with parties in it, don't be in a Party lol. The LBPP has turned more serious the last few weeks, so the "I joined when it was a joke" thing shouldnt be used as some kind of excuse now. Edited by Zenny Winter, Aug 7 2014, 04:38 AM.

Somehow I don't recall calling anyone something like a patronizing dick. I guess I should just aspire to your level of decorum. Or is that the sort of hypocritical behaviour that gets old quickly? Surely a good metaphor somewhere. |

I don't think the name calling is necessary, and it's a little odd to criticize someone for incivility while calling them names. Believe it or not, Zenny isn't the only one with feelings that might get hurt, she's just the most vocal about it when they do get hurt over the smallest things. Zenny didn't appear to grasp what Rachel was saying in the OP at all, so I don't think Rachel's criticism was that off base anyway. |

I don't think I'm being too hypocritical. If you go around telling people they don't know anything repeatedly like Rach is, then you are patronizing. You are also being a dick, a jerk, etc. Yes Zenny made a non sequitur but there are ways to come across poorly and intentionally mean and not. I am just pointing out that repeatedly falling on the wrong side of that distinction makes you come across like a patronizing jerk / dick. Edit: And as you point out, Zenny is a bit sensitize when people insult her and demean her intelligence. So if you know this and do it anyways, that's not really a defense. Firstly, I don't believe I've told anyone they don't know anything. Secondly, the person who called me a patronizing dick is telling me how to not come across poorly. Seems pretty legitimate. I must have missed the class where they told me calling people dicks is not coming across poorly. |
