Welcome to Europeia!
So what the heck is Europeia anyways?

Can I join?

So, I came here representing another region? I do not want to become a citizen. Where should I go?

What offices are there for people to be elected into?

What is there for me to do in Europeia?

That answers most of my immediate questions. What if I have any more?

In Criminal Cases

[Europeia]1 [v]2 [Defendant]3 [MONTH YEAR]4 [#]5 [COURT]6

  1. Prosecution in Criminal trials is always the State representing society as a whole. In regions with a Monarch, this is usually styled "R.", short for "Rex" or "Regina" (King or Queen). Other regions without Monarchs may use "The People," the name of the jurisdiction (eg. "Europeia"), or other similar styles.
  2. This means "against".
  3. This is the name of the Defendant of the case.
  4. This is the date of the case, with the month and year representing the date the judgment was handed down or the case was discontinued, not the date on which the application for the case was posted.
  5. This is the number of the case, based on the number of cases handed down that month, which is to say it is the #th case in that month.
  6. This is the name of the court. In Europeia, this is the High Court of Europeia (Abbreviated "HCE"), but were the name of the court to change, this section would be altered to match in cases coming from the new court.
Example

Europeia v. Oliver Grey [JULY 2024] 4 HCE

In this criminal case, Oliver Grey was the defendant, where the judgment was handed down in July of 2024, and was the fourth judgment in the courts of that month. It was a case ruled on by the High Court of Europeia.

In Criminal Appeals

[Appellant]1 [v]2 [Respondent]3 [MONTH YEAR]4 [#]5 [COURT]6

  1. The appellant is the party lodging the appeal.
  2. This means "against".
  3. The respondent is the party opposing the appeal.
In Europeia this is the High Court of Europeia Appeal (HCEA).
Example

Oliver Grey v. Europeia [AUGUST 2024] 1 HCEA

In this Criminal appeal, Oliver Grey is appealing the result of a previous case, with the judgment handed down in August of 2024, where it was the first case to be heard in that month. It was heard by the High Court of Europeia in Appeal.

In Civil Cases

[Plaintiff]1 [v]2 [Respondent]3 [MONTH YEAR]4 [#]5 [COURT]6

  1. The Plaintiff is the party bringing the suit in a civil trial.
  2. This means "against".
  3. The Respondent is the party against whom suit is brought in a civil trial.
In Europeia, this is the High Court of Europeia.
Example

Anumia v. Oliver Grey [JULY 2024] 3 HCE

In this civil trial, Anumia has brought suit against Oliver Grey, with judgment rendered in July of 2024, as the third case heard that month. The High Court of Europeia heard the case.

In Civil Appeals

[Appellant]1 [v]2 [Respondent]3 [MONTH YEAR]4 [#]5 [COURT]6

  1. The appellant is the party lodging the appeal.
  2. This means "against".
  3. The respondent is the party opposing the appeal.
In Europeia this is the High Court of Europeia Appeal (HCEA).
Example

Oliver Grey v. Anumia [AUGUST 2024] 7 HCEA

Notes

All examples are fictional. This system of citation was developed by Anumia and Onderkelkia for first use in LKE, and is reproduced with permission here. This particular explanation is written largely by Anumia with adaptation to Europeia by Anumia and Oliver Grey. All cases have the names of the participants in italics.
