| Welcome to Europeia! So what the heck is Europeia anyways? Can I join? So, I came here representing another region? I do not want to become a citizen. Where should I go? What offices are there for people to be elected into? What is there for me to do in Europeia? That answers most of my immediate questions. What if I have any more? |

You've met them or you know them? I've met four presidents but I don't know them. |

I know them too. I work for a congressman, plus have campaigned for quite a few legislators. Most of the people on their campaigns they put as the CoS.

A new Constitution ... which I presume is just the latest series of amendments collated together? Criminal Code, I'm guessing this is just "the little forum things that people do" that are regulated? Appeals Court - more like the formalisation of a procedure that pretty much existed like forever. These things aren't trivial, I do respect the fact that people have spent a lot of time with those things, but they aren't *new*. What I'm getting at is that I *think* that legislature and the activity it generates has had it's time. What I do think that Europeia has done to its credit (partially?) is recognise this and develop things like RP extensively (I read about it in GNN ... or something). And that's where I think *real* progress can be made. I'd argue that the job of the Senate is a rubber-stamping house and that the "wealth" (activity) generation is the non-legislative creative ideas of ordinary citizens. That's where I think that any President needs to focus on : reaching out to ordinary citizens and having the balls to try lots of things. Does that resonate with people? Yes, no? |

I think you're trying to lessen the apparent importance of today's legislative age in order to make yours sound more groundbreaking and important. The laws of today are considerably better-written and better organised than they used to be, and we're still picking through the mire of legislation that was created half an age ago, and trying to turn those ideas into something that makes sense. The appeals court did not really exist, and the criminal code while a collection of existing laws as well has had several important additions, a good tune-up, and in itself is a significant legislative improvement for the organisation of criminal law, necessary in a region as large as this. While perhaps there is less necessity for legislation in "new" areas as there obviously would be in earlier times for any region, Europeia is nowhere near, nor even showing signs of approaching, its point of legislative saturation (and trust me, I have seen when a region has reached that stage more than a few times before). The larger and more active a region is, and the more often it gains new personalities, the further away the point of legislative saturation is, and given that we have in fact created a working City Council for the first time (despite grumblings by me) that is -also- able to contribute legislation proves that even with an increase in the amount of laws the region passes, we are nowhere near a stage where our legislature shall cease to have any real amount of activity, and where the laws passed shall be minor edits of existing laws or ideas, or trivial matters. As a matter of fact, while indeed our non-governmental section has grown in activity (which is excellent), it is in fact the executive that has showed signs of stagnation of late - of the three arms of government, it is the one that has had the most problems over the last few terms - the legislature is still going strong and the judiciary is growing in size and activity. I think you've leapt in here with a presumption of how things are in your mind, taken a quick look at the region without any real idea of the depth of current events, and decided your presumption was correct. Don't get me wrong - I remember you, you were good for the state of legislative affairs half an age ago - but you need more time to properly assess the situation here in Europeia. The ordinary citizen -is- reached out to by the government these days, and most people here have considerably more opportunities than they did back then. The last few Presidents, though they have suffered some grave problems, -have- "had the balls" to "try lots of things" - whether they succeeded or not in their endeavours, the last few elected Presidents have been rather unorthodox in their moves here in this region, and at least made strong attempts to break the mould in many places. |

Absolutely correct. As I couldn't see anything, I just threw some stuff at people to look at. It's nice that it's got a few people thinking.
Thank you. |
