What's academic about this, though? Teaching other people how to stop polluting Letho with their useless word vomit.
I'm in, Nums, though I want to maintain focus on coordination between media outlets in the run up to major events. I'm also strongly opposed to the Director being elected by all member outlets. I think there should be a Board and that Board can elect a Chair or have a revolving Chair. I also didn't read your proposal all the way through so if any of that sounds weird, chalk it up to a lazy effort to understand what you're proposing. Either way, I'm very much in.

That might actually solve something I was mulling over in my head, so once we get things going again, if people are interested in forming a Board to select the Director instead of a direct election from member outlets, I'll happily work to make one.

Either way works for me, as they both present advantages and risks. In any case, the first version of the structure/model will have faults and problems no one anticipated, so we'll be forced to amend/change/revisit it... so if it's bound to happen anyway, let's just start with something easy to manage and we'll plug the holes as we go along.

What's In A Name? You may notice some people call me "Trinn", "Fluffy", "Trylian", or other random combinations, and are a bit confused by this. 'Rylian' was the name I used when I first came to Europeia. After a few months, I had it changed to 'Trinnien' which is the username I generally use outside of NS. I changed it back to 'Rylian' in order to get back to my roots in Euro. Mostly it's just because I like confusing people (j/k). 'Rylian' and 'Trinnien' are derivatives from Rilian and Tirian from the Chronicles of Narnia. Anyhow, now you know and are hopefully a lil less confused.

The Globe is not part of OIM and has no plans to join it, so it should be noted that OIM cannot purport to represent all private media. As such, the wording of proposals and so forth should be precise and accurate as I worry that some of these proposals and such are getting ahead of themselves.

Out of curiosity, may I ask what made you decide not to join the OIM/other private media cartel?

You don't need to join ACME. And it leaves the application and archival to the status quo currently handled by MinComm. The Globe would literally see no change except that some (myself as one example) will push MinComm to remind newspaper owners to maintain activity (which currently is 60 days). Still, we'll leave it in their capable hands.

I think Rach is concerned about the ''Advocacy'' part of the job description Anumia posted.

Rach likes being contrary is a good explanation for most things she does
The advocacy and other resources will essentially be for public consumption, and I agree with the sentiment Rach presents that we will not and should not act as if we represent all private/independent media. I did not like the potential implication back when the OIM was founded and feel the same now. As noted by Rylian above, I and others argued earlier in this thread that no official control like granting/archiving newspapers should be given to this enterprise.
