Forgotten Cultures

The aim of Forgotten Cultures is to showcase animals from areas like former Manchuria, and Manchurian cultures, Yakutian cultures and even to a certain extent Mongolian. There will also be exhibits based on traditional native american indian animals with educators present to explain the importance of such areas.

So far I only have one photo of one exhibit as the zoo has closed for an overhaul, however let the tour begin.

Qilin and Giraffe exhibit

Well it might seem bizzare to put savannah in Manchuria and Yakutia, as for those who don't know they're in parts siberian based cultures (specifically Yakutia) - however the Manchu took the Qilin seriously, and the giraffe was said to be a modern day Qilin by one of the Qing Dynasty Emperors. So as thus as part of the entrance to the exhibit it was important to allow me to showcase the Qilin, and its "real life" counterpart the giraffe.

This is the only picture taken before the revamp began.

Opposite them will be the Yakut pony exhibit. Watch this space for more exciting developments (and more pictures of the redone Yakut/Manchu area.
