Welcome to the San Margurite Zoological Park. Located in the beautiful wine country of Central California. We currently are still under construction.

This large, roomy exhibit is home to the park's herd of female Asian Elephants and our flock of Black Storks. You can find the female elephants either roaming around their large outdoor enclosure, or in their spacious indoor enclosure. The elephants love to wallow in their giant pool. Usually you can find atleast 1 of the elephants in or around the pool. The stream circling around the exhibit is where the park's flock of Black Storks can usually be found. If you look closely you may be able to find one of the storks' nests in the tall grasses around the stream.

This exhibit is home to the park's Asian Elephant bull, Big Al. He can be found taking his daily rounds around his enclosure. He loves to wallow in his dust pit and go swimming in his pool. He also likes to slip into the grove of trees and just stand in the shade and browse from his favorite tree.

This wetland exhibit is home to the park's herd of Asian Water Buffalo and the flock of Lesser Adjutants. One aspect of this exhibit is it's revolutionary Green Roof. Other facilities have created Green Roofs before, such as the Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Gardens, but none have done it to this level. We don't only have just plants and flowers growing, but also trees and vines. The Water Buffalo spend most of the time wallowing in the water or lying in the shade among the reeds and palms. The Lesser Adjutants spend most of their time wading through the water or resting along the banks.

Guest view pictures will come later, and I am open to requests.

And yeah, Kiwi is my assistant manager/supervisor.

Welcome to the behind the scenes pre-opening tour of the San Margurite Zoological Park.

Here at the first viewing area when approaching the Asian Elephant Reserve I can see three of the four adult female Asian Elephants and our first born calf Cammie.

Posted Image
Walking around the bend towards the next viewing areas I notice our flock of Black Storks wading in the stream and walking along the bank.

Posted Image
Heading off towards the indoor viewing area I stop at the next outdoor viewing area. Here Ican see Connie, one of our Asian Elephant cows dozing in the shade on top of her hill top post.

Posted Image
I make my way into our state of the art indoor elephant enclosure. Beyond the back wall hidden from guest view are the containment facilities and stables. There appears to be nothing within the building so I move on out side to see the Asian Elephant bull, Big Al.

Posted Image
I walk up to the first viewing area of the Bull Enclosure. At the far end of the enclosure, past the giant elephant grass I can see Big Al making his way up towards me so I hang on and wait to see if he comes on up.

Posted Image
Much to my delight Big Al comes up very close to me and begins to pick trunk fulls of grass and eats them. Ihate to leave the elephants, but I'm sure you all would like to see the Water Buffalo and the Lesser Adjutants. I head off in that direction.

Posted Image
On my way to the Water Buffalo exhibit, I stop back in front of the female elephants' pool to watch one of the females, Indus, give herself a bath and take pictures.

Posted Image
I finally make to the Water Buffalo exhibit. I marvel at the beauty of the well foliated enclosure and at the amazing Green Roof that our team has created.Just then the bull Water Buffalo slowly makes his way to the stream and begins to drink.I look up and see a light brown Water Buffalo walk behind some foliage in the back ground. I turn and head on down the path towards the other viewing area.

Posted Image
I walk up to the next viewing area and see the beautiful, almost black Water Buffalo turning and coming up out of the water. Behind her I can see the bull Water Buffalo just getting up out of the reeds. This whole time being at the exhibit I have not seen any of the Lesser Adjutants that share the exhibit with the Water Buffalo. I hang around for a minute to see if one comes along so I can show you all.

Posted Image
Finally one of the Lesser Adjutants came up from within the reeds where they have their nests and shows its self. They are quite ugly birds but I still love them. They are quite interesting if you sit and watch them for a while. Well that's all so far guys. I can't wait to welcome you all back when the African Savannah exhibit is completed.
