A.R.C. Update

> Sunshine, Alice, Alicia, Lightstarter, Eddie, Esterus, Robbie and Henry, the present Przewalski Wild Horses
Sunshine is the first female to give birth in the new exhibit, and the little colt is named Henry. W.O.O.A.P. is very pleased with the fact that the horses are breeding normally even with a new environment.

Sunshine and Robbie:

All of the horses have adapted beautifully!

> Grim, Hercules and Gled, the Mustangs
Hercules and Gled are still looking for a new home, they weren't as lucky as Brownie and Amadeus. Anyone wishing to adopt one or both horses can just say so ;)

> Esther, Esther II., Pebbles, Arnie, Esus and Oys, the present Okapies
None of the females have given birth yet, but they're all at high stages of their pregnancy.
I didn't go very close at photographing them this time because they somehow need more time to adapt to the new environment than the PWH's so here are only two shots...

> Linea and Cynthia, the present Hyacinth Macaws
... are in Brinestone. This week we're taking Grim back there to meet up with his two females there and his little daughter, and to be there when the other female gives birth, so we'll take some photos of Linea and Cynth.

> Anita and her two male cubs, the Siberian Tigers
The deal with Anita's owners was that we keep the tigers until the cubs grow up to be "teenagers", so to say, to be independent, and so we did.
They reached "that age" last week and were returned back to their owners.

> Flee, the False Killer Whale
Flee is here for safe-keeping, it's owner is currently out of the country and isn't able to find anyone else who could take care of this animal in it's usual tank, so he brought Flee here.
Flee is a very active whale, but that's perfect!

> Tehled, the Bald Eagle
Tehled arrived to A.R.C. for flight rehabilitation after a broken wing. Currently he's flying nicely but insecurely around the exhibit, but we believe once he starts big time rehabilitation he'll do well and be able to fly big heights in no time!

I'm glad that I was able to add all the same facilities + some new ones, and that I still have A LOT of space left to build on :la:

Enjoy!

Rest In Peace Lightstarter

As some of you who follow the A.R.C. since the very beginning know, Lightstarter, our first and original Przewalski's Wild Horse male, had a very rare illness that caused all of his bones which would break to twist around themselves, and that was the reason why his owners gave him to us in the first place.

Although this illness only twists bones that are broken, it still does drain out a lot of healthyness out of the healthy bones, blocking a lot of calcium to get to the bones, and from the start we knew that, since there isn't a cure, he will pass away sooner than all of our other PWH's.

Anyhow, earlier last month his symptoms became more severe, and although I didn't mention anything in the updates, he was in a fragile condition. Earlier this day Lightstarter lost his battle with this illness, and passed away onto a better place. This is a great loss for us, and all we can hope now is that Sunshine will get all the support from her PWH family and our staff, not to fall into depression and lose her life as well, leaving little Henry (now renamed into Henry Lightstarter II), an orphan.

Lightstarter arrived to the zoo when he was 1 years old. He was on a farm with many different animals which included several animals from the Hippopotamus family. One day a raging Hippo came running his way, running him down and breaking his ribcage. He arrived to the A.R.C. in a terrible condition and barely recovered during his 2 year healing period, not including the rehabilitation afterward. Due to the massive bone twisting three of his ribs had to be removed because they couldn't be saved. He went through more than a dozen surgeries to fix everything.
So after 3 years with us, he was now a 4 year old Przewalski's Wild Horse, and due to all our efforts his owners decided to leave him with us. He's been with the A.R.C. for more than 25 years, and has had many offspring in that time period, with his forever companion, Sunshine. He had a fulfilling life, and all that bothers us now is the fact that now, in his old, sickly days, we couldn't help him anymore than we already did.

The A.R.C. will always remember you. :tss:

Since his death only colts were born, including his last ever son, Henry Lightstarter II...

Posted Image

... and Will, Alicia's little colt.

This inspires me. I see in the old version, that you were going for a theme? With the roofs? Or was it just a 'spur of the moment' thing? I miss the old, but embrace the new. ^^

A.R.C. Update

> Sunshine, Alice, Alicia, Eddie, Esterus, Robbie, Henry Lightstarter II, Will and Mugger, the present Przewalski Wild Horses
After Lightstarters death we renamed his last son, Henry, to Henry Lightstarter II. The interesting fact is that this breeding season only gave us three colts! Henry L. II (son of Sunshine and Lightstarter), Will (son of Alicia and Esterus) and Mugger (son of Alice and Robbie)!

Soon after his passing Esterus started leading the herd...

Posted Image

... with his companion Alicia by his side (she's on the left).

Posted Image

For some time Sunshine and Henry L. II backed off in the Okapi exhibit where she spent some time with her friend Esther.

Posted Image

But back at the exhibit she was pals with Alice.

Posted Image

When things started to come back to normal, slow but steady, Mugger, the last colt for this season, was born. And we named him properly to his behavior, as he just plays and annoys Okapies and steals whatever he can from their exhibit. First he sees what he can get...

Posted Image

... and then he just runs away.

Posted Image

> Grim and Hercules, the Mustangs
Gled has been adopted, now only Hercules is left.

Posted Image

> Esther, Esther II., Pebbles, Tess, Jess, Essina, Arnie, Esus and Oys, the present Okapies
The total opposite of the PWH's! They got all three female babies! :O
Tess (daughter of Esther and Arnie), Essina (daughter of Pebbles and Esus) and Jess (daughter of Esther II. and Esus). We named them all similarly :)

Grooming time!

> Linea and Cynthia, the present Hyacinth Macaws
We still didn't go to Brinestone ;)

> Flee, the False Killer Whale
Flee is leaving this week! ^_^

> Tehled, the Bald Eagle
Tehled will be transported to another facility of ours, the I.S.W.R.C. (bought back in August 2009. from Kinka), to rehabilitate for the wild.

I'm very happy with the way he moves his wings ;)

A.R.C. Update

Currently it is February, and cold days are already behind the A.R.C., but some morning fogs are still a possibility. In these cases we "lock" all of our animals in their indoor exhibits.

> Sunshine, Alice, Alicia, Eddie, Esterus, Robbie, Henry Lightstarter II, Will and Mugger, the present Przewalski Wild Horses
The horses are doing great, hopefully this breeding season will give us some fillies as well. The pregnant female is Sunshine, and she's pregnant with Robbie, who fought Esterus for her.

Posted Image

Posted Image

> Grim and Hercules, the Mustangs
Grim and Hercules are moved from the pasture to their stalls, as the morning was rather cold. Later this day we're going to take Grim to Brinestone park, to be there for this year's mating season.

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

> Esther, Esther II., Pebbles, Tess, Jess, Essina, Arnie, Esus and Oys, the present Okapies
Putting them all together in one indoor exhibit was a bit tricky because of Esus. Esus is the dominant male, actually, not THE dominant one, but is fighting Arnie (who really is the dominant one) on a daily basis, trying to breed with Esther from one year to another, ever since he arrived to breed with Pebbles (because she wanted a mate but "couldn't find one").
Currently there are three males in the exhibit, and do I even have to say that among 4 currently breeding females (Jess and Essina are still too young), Oys NEVER bred? Arnie bred only with Esther, while Esus (for now) bred with Esther II., Pebbles and Tess. I feel sorry for Oys but if the A.R.C. brings in another female, which is not from their family, either Arnie or Esus will breed with her. Mostly Esus because he wins all the "non-important" female breeding fights, while Arnie saves his strength for fights over Esther, the dominant female.

Posted Image

Posted Image

> Linea and Cynthia, the present Hyacinth Macaws
We're going to Brinestone later today, pictures and stories for Linea and Cynt will pop-up in the next or the update after that.

> Flee, the False Killer Whale
Flee left the A.R.C., and is now back with it's owner :)

> Tehled, the Bald Eagle
Later today we moved Tehled to the A.R.C. H.A.S. Outdoor Aviary to see how he flies in bigger areas. He is definitely doing well which means that the rehabiliation we provided him with so far - works! In the evening we will be crating him up and transporting to a huge aviary exhibit in I.S.W.R.C. where we will rehabilitate his flying to perfection and get him ready for the wilderness.

Enjoy!

A.R.C., Brinestone and I.S.W.R.C. Update

> Sunshine, Alice, Alicia, Eddie, Esterus, Robbie, Henry Lightstarter II, Will and Mugger, the present Przewalski Wild Horses
The horses are currently in the mating season so we didn't interrupt their mate picking with photographs.

> Grim and Hercules, the Mustangs
Hercules got a unique chance to get adopted by a very rich family from G. Britain. They own a huge estate with many white horses, and believe that Hercules would be a perfect choice for them!

So, the people made an appointment to come and see him, but unfortunately I won't be there when they will arrive because I'm going with a few crew members to Brinestone Park to leave Grim there (so he can mate for this season again and to visit the family he has there) and to visit our Hyacinth Macaws. After we do all that in Brinestone we'll go to I.S.W.R.C. to see if Tehled arrived safely and to see his new exhibit.

Here are the horses in the morning before Grim's departure and people from G. Britain's arrival:

Around 9:30AM we left the A.R.C. after moving Tehled into a crate and Grim into the trailer. We were greeted by the zookeeper crew from Brinestone right at the entrance of the park and they took Grim and moved him to his old exhibit. We talked with Brinestone owners for some time and went to see how he settled in. The first animal that greeted us there was his second born daughter that the park named Lily! Grim was right behind her.

Here's Grim resting after a long trip and one of his females named Anabelle:

Here's Honey and Grim's first daughter Faded which is in the background:

Faded (later that day she was moved to the large pasture for females, they keep control of pregnancies in the park):

Grim, greeting us when we were leaving Brinestone:

And this is one male who seems to like Grim and his mini-herd very much, he spends lots of time by their exhibit:

Posted Image

> Esther, Esther II., Pebbles, Tess, Jess, Essina, Arnie, Esus and Oys, the present Okapies
Same as the PWH's. Jess and Essina are ready for breeding.

> Linea and Cynthia, the present Hyacinth Macaws
They turned out to be two totally different birds!
Since we got Linea first, she is more interactive with other animals and with humans, while Cynthia doesn't like spending time with anyone, she just likes to fly, fly and fly some more.

Also, we heard from the keepers that Linea has a special paint female that she follows around all the time, and although we didn't believe it at first, her photos show the exact thing they told us!

Cynth (proving my point about the flying):

Linea:

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

I still think that the two are enjoying themselves more here in Brinestone than they ever would in the A.R.C.

> Tehled, the Bald Eagle
This morning, before we crated him up, we took him to the H.A.S. large aviary to see how he flies in bigger spaces. And he flies nicely, but can fly in very short periods and is a bit wobbly, so that just approved our reasons to take him to the I.S.W.R.C. for hydro therapies and such. A few crew members left with him while some of us went to Brinestone with Grim.

Posted Image

Posted Image

When we arrived to the I.S.W.R.C. we were very happy with what our crew there did with his new exhibit ;D
