Light thinks it travels faster than anything but it is wrong. No matter how fast light travels, it finds the darkness has always got there first, and is waiting for it.

> The Volcano Drill Search

Previously...

... "Let's wake them up, shall we?" ...
... scary and plain ...
... they're not supposed to be listed for the rescue ...
... "Oh great, more climbing." ...
... more hills were ahead after we passed the river ...
... it was time to start wondering - where are the animals ...
... we noticed a HUGE waterfall, straight ahead ...
... I held my camera near my eyes, to get a great shot ...
... a bit less than a day and a half is left, and we listed only two species that don't need to be rescued ...

See the whole PART II. here.

PART III.
After the Stork went in the bushes, far away from the team, we went to explore the river and the waterfall more closely. No one had the guts to enter the water though, actually, we are supposed to check everywhere, for all animals.

As we came closer to the beached logs we noticed a whole flock of Mallard Ducks.

"Look at those!" the newbie said.
"Mallard ducks. Oh my, those are everywhere in the world." Annabelle said "They seem quite comfortable on this river."
"You would too if you'd be "owning" a waterfall of this size and so many foliage! Even for the small amount of time they'll be owning it." I said.
"These are W.O.O.A.P.'s birds?"
"Yes, they all have rings."

As we observed the river a bit better we thought of it being a lake.
But we saw an area on which it all goes away in a straight line of water. Then it must be a river.
As the Mallards definitely got our hearts by their friendlyness and their noising, and as it was already getting dark...

Posted Image

... we made camp near the beached logs on the waterside. We liked that spot because we had big chances of coming across new animals over night + we were hidden away by three hills, actually.

Posted Image

Posted Image

The scenery was beautiful...

Posted Image

Posted Image

After one hour it was already pretty much dark, and we saw the Mallards leaving. Probably to their nests somewhere on the nearby trees.
They spent the whole day each one on it's own side of the lake, like guards, and now they were together in one place so it was really strange to see them like that xD

Posted Image

A few minutes after they left the place got totally quiet. Crickets and wind were still playing a sound role here, but all the animal life was sleeping.
"Okay everyone, let's go to bed now. Tomorrow is the last 12 hours we have to do this right!" Hastings noted
"Hm... what time is the eruption happening?"
"At 3PM, I believe."

Someone added some more wood in the campfire to keep it "running" for a few more hours, and then we all went to sleep in the foggy, chilly night of the forest.

After I don't know how much time, I woke up because I heard the river water splashing. I got scared, at first, but as it was a starry night, it was pretty much visible all the way to the waterfall, and even further.
I took my camera, and intentionally left the flashlight behind.
I got down to the "shore" and hear some pouting noises somewhere in the middle of the waterfall and the shore.
I was looking around in case something pops out of the water, but everything was rather dark.
Then, after a second, an animal showed up from the shrubbery in the water...

Posted Image

It was a Pygmy hippo! A female! I turned around to get my notebook, wrote it down, turned around and...

Posted Image

... poof. The Hippo was no more on it's ex place XD

But I quickly tracked it down in the shore shrubs.

Posted Image

Posted Image

By the time it was leaving Annabelle woke up as well. I did not realize the animal woke me up at 4 AM.

Posted Image

When the team was fully up it was 6:13 AM, and we left. The last look on this part of the river was another glare to the Mallards...

Posted Image

We were walking very fast and we took notes of a whole bunch of animals in herds, and thus making direct calls to W.O.O.A.P. that we found more, and more, and more, that they need to pick up. Helicopters were flying all over the place behind us, taking the animals away, and we just kept walking ahead.

At one point we didn't even notice we had a monkey walking ahead of us for the whole time...

Posted Image

... and as soon as it spotted us as well, it ran away xD

Posted Image

By our way we also saw a whole bunch of Toco Toucans, like we expected to see.

Posted Image

As we were going forward some more, we came across a huge hole. It was, actually, another waterfall of this amazing place, and it really looked fabulous... but, the height of it was really... unexpected.

Posted Image

We wanted to go in it's canyon, however, because we thought many animals will be in it, for us to see.

Posted Image

We climbed down the waterfall easily, just by holding ourselves to the rocks that the waterfall was made of, and then it's true beauty opened up in front of us, when we saw it in it's best angle.

Posted Image

We walked down the canyon for probably 20 minutes, or a bit more, half an hour? Anyhow, Annabelle, who else, stopped us to tell us that she's hearing something, yet again. We anxiously awaited for her to tell us what she thinks it is.

You know, one of the rules of W.O.O.A.P. in these drills is that they NEVER place animals and predators that eat those animals, just in case.
So when we found the birds, the monkey, and the Bongos, we knew there are no great cats around... or are there?

"It's a Tiger." Annabelle said.
"Excuse me, a what?" Hastings said
"A T-I-G-E-R. Did you say...?"
"... that W.O.O.A.P. never puts in animals and predators?" I asked
"Uhm, yes, yes I did... "

Posted Image

By our amazement, it was a gorgeous Bengal Tiger male, from which we kept our distance while it was swimming through the canyon river...

Posted Image

To be continued in the last part, PART IV.

> A word from me
Just enjoy the story, and the updates.
I must say I love the pictures this time :D
