Komori and Maple left the A.R.C.
Komori and Maple have been our assistant zookeepers for half a year now, which has been a huuuuuge time here, more than most of the interns/assistants are here. They left yesterday morning, after a small party at the Staff Centers :P
They said that they'll come back and visit, definitely.

Also, if they'll wish to go on a tracking trip of the two Sea Lionesses we released last week, they can join us later on :)

See you soon! :D

Good thing is that soon enough we'll put up the ad again, so other people will be able to spend some time in the A.R.C. :D

> The Volcano Drill Search
W.O.O.A.P. wants to annually test his top 10 zoos in cases of Volcano eruptions.
As we're ranked first on their list, we were first to do the drill.
The Volcano Drill Searches usually happen in Rainforest grounds and is a cooperation between us and W.O.O.A.P. itself.

For these drills many zoos have "borrowed" their animals, so credits for these drills are countless.

We were first dropped off far away from the forest in which we were supposed to be searching. We're searching for ANY animal and we have three days to collect at least 4 specimens (2 of each gender) of every species we come across.

Posted Image

The forest we were supposed to reach is still far away, and the trip towards it is rather long, and we have to pass through a forest in which we're supposed to only take notes of species, not take them from this forest.

Posted Image

The first animal we came across was the Toucan.
"Look there!" said Hastings
"What? Where?" I started looking around like crazy
"A Toucan... is it?" said the keeper of H.A.S. Hatchery.
"Yes. Annabelle [she takes care of the S.A.S. Aviaries], take notes!" I said

Posted Image

As we kept going the forest got more and more complicated. Our whole team was now at many challenges of nature's terrains.

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Mountains full of rocks to climb, were our only ways to go on the other side to reach the forest we were aiming at.

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

As we climbed one of the hills there, we got a spectacular view over the small forest we were in, and we saw the beautiful greenish sky just being piled up with Macaws :D

Posted Image

We once heard that if you follow a Macaw in these drills, you'll get to the place you need to be. But following a swift bird like that in a hilly and a rocky area like this, there was no way
We all admired it as the graceful bird was flying away, in the direction in which we were heading as well.

Posted Image

We continued our search slowly, everyone was starting to get tired as we were walking for over 7 hours through a tough terrain, as I already mentioned.
Suddenly, Annabelle stopped the crew:
"Hold on!" she but her finger on her lips "I hear something! It's an animal! A big one!"
I looked at her and wondered. There are many animals from Tropical Rainforests that can be near. The question is only which.
"Let's keep going. We'll bounce into it, or it into us." he said.
We continued.

After not even a few seconds while climbing one of the hills, a huge Bongo popped out of nowhere!

Posted Image

It was climbing the same hill like we were, but from the other side.
We quickly hid in the closes shrubbery to take notes and photos.

Posted Image

As the animal noticed it quickly ran down the hill, leaving us in an awe :D

Posted Image

As we climbed down the hill, following the runaway Bongo, we found that this was actually a feeding place of five majectic Bongos!
The runaway female joined the others, though cautiously.

Posted Image

We saw many more!

Posted Image

Posted Image

As we were enjoying our find, the sun slowly began to set down and we made camp close to the Bongo area, to keep at least one of the animals close. Although that maybe wasn't smart, but we knew that these Bongos are from zoos and wouldn't harm humans. They all have zookeepers non the less :D

Posted Image

The campfire was heating the cold night as we listened to Bongos who were near.
"It's beautiful, isn't it..."
"Yes, I wish W.O.O.A.P. would send us on much more searches like this!" I laughed.
"What's on schedule tomorrow?" Kent, the Okapi keeper asked.
"Nothing special... we hike to the Volcano forest and start rescuing."
"Get some sleep guys." I said "We have a long journey tomorrow. And only two more days."

To be continued :)

@ Sophie > I know you do. Sometimes I'm eager for explanations in your S&T. I wonder what would happen if I'd once post only pictures. I do that only when I have some pictures that weren't shown in any of the updates for some reason.

@ Maple > Well, should I say you're welcome, or...? XD
