APPLICATION- [Yamato Hatsuno] In this application, you will fill out the following GLOBAL NAME: [Pedro Schwartz] CHARACTER NAME: Yamato Hatsuno POWERSET/ARCHETYPE: [Katana/ Willpower] CHARACTER INFORMATION: *The Yonaguni people developed, trough time, a 3rd eye with mystic properties. The eye conceive telepathic abilities, like reading minds and telepathic communication, but only when it is not covered. Thanks to Susanowo's blessing, the natives of Yonaguni can breath underwater, but have not developed scales or any sea-like colors or abilities, remaining, in sight, like the average Japanese, only taller, but there can be exceptions . *Yamato is the prince of Yonaguni, and some say that he learned the way of the sword with the Japanese God of War Hachiman. He is well versed in the Japanese culture. *He's teachers told him not to be arrogant, and that life is a changing river, so he's not an arrogant prince, but is still proud if his lineage. *Commonly talks about japanese gods, the Bushido, and etc. *Normally dresses as a 16th Century Samurai. *Can be seen as "different" for not being blue-skinned, as the Yonaguni people History: In 1985, Kihachiro Aratake, a dive tour operator in Yonaguni, Japan was scouting for a new site to view hammerhead sharks. He had dropped into the water on the southeast side of the small island, off a place called Arakawa Point, expecting to see the normal crevices, coral heads, and possibly an entrance to an underwater cave. What lay before him, however, was something that no one had viewed in thousands of years..... And that had a reason. Yonaguni was,25 thousand years ago, a prosperous city on the Japanese coast. They were exellent swordsman and philosophers, mystics and priests of Xintoism, the Japanese animist culture. And someday, the High-Priest had a vision of fire and blood, two great mushrooms would destroy the Nippon. He then prayed to Susanowo, god of Storms so he could protect Yonaguni from this unknown doom.Susanowo then created a magic barrier around the island and took it to the Yumi, the Sea Kingdom where he lived. There, the people of Yonaguni discovered the existence of both the Atlanteans and the Mu civilizations. They had contact with both, but when Mu fell, they retreated, and kept watch on the Japanese people for the centuries to come. The Yonaguni people helped build the Kofun tombs, were councilors and teachers of the Kamakura, and some even say that there were Yonaguni amongst Oda generals and the ninja envoys of the Nobunaga Clan. But they always remained away from the history books, anonymous presences until the Black Ships incident in July 14, 1853 at Uraga Harbor. When the Yonaguni people realized that the West had come, they retreated to they're underwater city, never to be heard again, acting only as invisible eagles learning and watching the development of Mankind. When Japan started to develop its industries, some adventurous Yonaguni used to go to the shores to learn, but none acted actively during the period. When the Atomic Bombs exploded, they realized what the prophecy was about, and they realized that they had to return. It took years, but finally, In 1999, the Great Shogun of Yonaguni sent his son, Yamato Hatsuno, to look for allies on the upper world that they could trust. When he discovered that there were Atlanteans on Paragon, he went there to try to recover the ancient bonds that tied both people. SCREENSHOT of character: [OPTIONAL] |

I'm actually a bit fascinated by the lore of this toon since it is something new. I remember someone on these forums mentioning it's arrogant for us to think Mer & Atlantean are the only sentient sea creatures that exist. I do see potential for some fascinating interaction. Would also be interested in seeing what the character looks like! |

This is interesting but I don't understand the lore in it. Are these people not related to Atlantis at all? Is his race related to Mer or not? I would like to know how his culture relates to Atlantis and how he learned about the temple in Paragon City. |

The Yonaguni is a structure found in the Japanese coast, near the region also called Yonaguni. Paranormal and occult fans and people who do studies about it say Yonaguni could be the "Japanese Atlantis".Using this as a hook, i've created a "atlantean samurai". I can get some links if you guys want to. Here's one: http://www.morien-institute.org/yonaguni.html Beware, creepy and cool images ahead! |

I'm not feeling this for a multitude of reasons. 1. The existence of such a place completely taints the significance of the sinking of the original island. The way the original story is written is that the "sea humans" as some would call Atlanteans (because they look like humans with pointy ears and gills behind them) all originated from the same island. The reason for the multitude of ethnicities on among Atlanteans, (I.E. why Leviathas looks black, Nereidia looks white and Delilah looks Asian) is because several people from ancient civilizations came to visit the island. Some left, some stayed. When the island went down, all who were on it were transformed by an act of divine intervention. By lore, this isn't a myth. This actually happened. There's an Atlantean among us who was actually alive when it was still an island. This person bore witness to the murder, the impending invasion and the sinking. So, it's clear cut as to where Atlanteans come from. 2. There's already an order of Atlantean Samurai. The Octopoda. This is not published lore yet, but it's keeper is Oldqua and it is currently being transcribed to be put on the VV page along with the several other others that already exist within the great city. Now, I would have NO ISSUE with this if these were Merfolk, simply because Mer have always been in the sea and their variants are almost boundless and cultural influence can vary based on what body of water they originated from. The thing about Atlantean culture is, the only culture they have is from what they drug to the bottom of the sea upon the initial sinking of the island. The picked up the pieces of their society and used what knowledge they had acquired from various visiting civilizations. |

Awesome you made a reference to Mu. Not many know the legend behind it simply because of the romance of Atlantis. I was just talking to Cade 2 days ago about it. I actually have a brute whose background is based on Lemuria lore because according to some legends Lemuria and Atlantis where at odds with each other and caused the sinking of both continents, (Although not the story I was going to adapt) I thought it would be a good VG setting... But back to the topic. I think your telling of the history is great! And I like the added character points you detailed as well. And while your background is a wonderful story, I'm not sure your story fits with any of the preexisting lore we (In EoA) have already told. That's my input, you got real talent regardless! |

Leviathas, as I said, the people from Yonaguni are not atlanteans. They are "japanese atlanteans" but not natives of Atlantis itself. The only connection to Atlantis is that they also live in an underwater city, but located on the japanese coast, with mystic properties. But anyway, thanks for the comments everyone! :ph43r: |

I can see that this culture is supposed to be completely separate from Atlantis but that begs a few questions: 1. Does your character know about Atlantis? Has he or his culture had any dealings with Atlantis? 2. How did your character learn about the surface temple in Paragon City? 3. Why does he want to join this foreign temple? This is especially important if your people have never met Atlanteans before. |

As I said above, the Yonaguni had contact with Atlantis and the Mu, but they broke the ties when Oranbenga fell. He does not knows much about the Atlantean history, but he is willing to renew the contact in this troubled times. |

After re-reading your background, I don't really see any conflicts in lore to be honest. You're origin is simply from a different underwater city that exists outside of Atlantis (in the pacific) and you made your way to Paragon after relearning the existence of Atlantis... Is that about right? You explained how they can exist due to the blessing of Susano'o (Japanese Shinto God of the sea and storms. And all around bad ass water diety...) Even if your app gets denied you should keep going with this concept and keep your character and just have fun making a name for yourself in CoH. My 2 centz... |
