I'd be interested to know how you would RP the black-outs. Playing, leveling, teaming, etc. are kinda out of the question RP-wise if you suddenly fall unconscious every time you use your abilities. |

I personally was wondering why a 7 year old was inducted into the military. |

I cant find anywhere in the post where they mentioned being within the Military... thus far, what they mentioned about the character is totally provocative and inspirational for RP... I see loads of possibilities for "RP" including blackouts, etc... FYI: Saarik was a great player, and I enjoyed them from the old days...

Levi keeps insisting we are not an Army... ok I can kinda see that, most of you all did not serve in the Atleantean forces or anything I just want to know when Sea folk let thier offspring leave? Do thy just fire them out and say "ok - your own your own! Do try to not get eaten..." I mean come on, seven?

We have NEVER been deemed an "army." Sure, some of us have been called 'warriors,' but never an official branch of any military service. Some of you have rped that your toons are in the Atlantean army. Leviathas has been a scout, even Dexamene was a member of the Interior Guard, but Nereidia never was a soldier of any kind. I admit to having called us an 'army' -- but not in the traditional sense, only as a 'band of like-minded individuals with a common goal.' Perhaps that's where the confusion lies, and I apologize for that. As for the application, this person rped to Krenus & myself that she woke up in the Atlas Park hospital, and the last thing she remembered was some kind of 'ritual.' She never mention she was military, simply that she was 'lost.' As for the black-out, it just seems the 'sea spirit' takes over -- and the 'child' had no idea what's going on. Krenus & I did not interact with the 'sea spirit,' only the 'child' so far. |

It was my understanding that, at least before the ascendancy of Leviathas as king, that the Atlantean contingent on the surface was the equivalent of an ambassadorial military expedition. If Leviathas is indeed the leader of all Atlantis now then the immigration policy on that might have relaxed somewhat, which is certainly something that can be discussed. Anyway, I might also point out that blacking out and failing to remember past occurrences sounds an awful lot like amnesia, which had been a previously forbidden plot device. I personally am wary of such things that tend to focus too much overly dramatic RP on any one individual (For instance, after every battle engagement, will this character collapse, and everyone will have to tend to her, and afterward she will wonder what is going on and we will have to deal with that every single time?) A possible solution to some of this might just be to accelerate the age of the character some more. Say they're twice as old, and they use to experience blackouts with their powers and might sometime again, but they have since learned to try to deal with that. |

I continue to stand by this characters Concept, and think the AGE of 7 is fine, if they want to continue playing a child... Merfolk do not cast the children into the great big blue at seven, however, I am stunned to think with ALL the imagination and wartime stories involved with EoA, one would have a hard time understanding how a child might be without parents or guidance... The whole amnesia bit, is off too... this character does not have amnesia. They have stated that the "sea spirit" (wonderfully left open btw... hell, could even be a mor'xigai) takes over. Thusly like two entities sharing the same body. This leaves all sorts of possibilities open for the future. Such as full merging of the two spirits, full excercism of the sea spirit, or even prolonged dual elements. THIS player has done NOTHING wrong with the story hook of their character, I find the concept refreshing and imaginative... |

...Alright, let's bring it to a head. 1. The character's age is fine, as long as the character doesn't engage in the proverbial thumb-sucking that we encountered with one particular young'n. I'm sure that the person is capable of playing the character well if they were among us before. After all, Posidius (we miss you!) is 10 and Ophysia (we miss you too!) is 12. They're kids and they act like children. They run, they jump, they giggle, they play, but when it is time for them to cowboy-up, they do. In a lot of ways, they're our Wily-Kit and Wily-Kat. 2. A Black-Out is not the same thing as amnesia. Some people can go into fits of rage and not remember anything that happened during. Now, how the character will respond to such fits is not my place to say. The entire reason the amnesia plot device was shunned is because so many people were trying to use it in lieu of actually writing a viable background for the character. To me, that's lazy. Short term memory loss, I don't have an issue with as long as it's used in a means appropriate to character development. All things considered, I think this character will be fine. Invite 'em. |
