So, at a halloween party last year, I played speed RPS for more than 45 minutes straight. I have been forbidden to play it at this year's party. :sadcool:

Oftentimes in manga translations there's a section in the back explaining cultural references.

Frequently there'll be a note explaining that "Jan, Ken, Pon" is the same as "Rock, Paper, Scissors".

A lot of the time they then go on to give the rules for "Rock, Paper, Scissors". :drone:

Have you guys ever heard of the RPS variation called "Rock, Scissors"? It's just like RPS, but you can only choose between Rock and Scissors.

It's somewhat fun, but I prefer the further variation "Rock". Fun for hours on end!

That is probably because you figured out how to beat everybody at it.

At the same time.

A cousin of my roommate went to the Rock/Paper/Scissors national competition like a few months ago. Big money to the winner, which is like a big lottery I suppose.

No, there's a lot of skill to RPS, provided you play the same opponent multiple times.

My strategy is to bring a die with me. That way I get to annoy people who think that they are good at rock paper scissors.
I would suggest not wearing a bra, but I fear a lack of support for this notion.

People who are sort of good beat random people
"Skilled" players beat the ones who are sort of good
Random beats "Skilled" because they can't read you at all.

No dude, random just ties. And tying is overall a losing strategy.

Tying cannot be a losing strategy, because it will win just as much as it will lose.

You should totally go to a Magic tournament with a deck that always ties. See how you do.

Do you have the information you posted a while ago about those algorithms or whatever that played RPS?

We play fast enough that you wouldn't have enough time to roll a die. Plus if you rolled a die I'd just change my choice based on what it turns up (since I can probably also see the die), which means you'll have to adjust and you're back to square one. RPS is not random, and though the fact the the three options are functionally identical is rather silly, biases mean it works out, particularly over longer periods of time.

I used to win a disproportionate amount by just going with whatever would lose to what they just lose with. If so-and-so just lost when they chose rock, they don't like to chose rock again. So you go with scissors, and probably win or tie.

For a while we played a variant called "Rock Paper Scissors Death," where you'd hit the other person with your implement-shaped hand whenever you won a round, and the winner was the person who lasted the longest (which, for us, took a while). So paper was an open-hand slap, rock was a hammerfist (in retrospect, this should've been a knuckle-punch <_< ) and for scissors, you'd bend back your fingers at the first joint, and drive into the other guy's hand with the index and middle fingers, which hurts like hell.

The interesting because, depending on how much pain your hand was already in, they hurt by different amounts. A slap hurt much more in the late game than the early game, for example. Scissors always hurt much more than the others.

We stopped playing around the time that I openly revealed that my strategy was to always pick scissors always, since it hurt so much more than the others and because that which it lost to (rock) hurt so little. As I said, we probably should've made rock a knuckle-punch, since that hurts a lot more.
