Well I've noticed that most people who join don't figure out how to create an avatar for a while, and I thought it might be a good idea to create some instructions for anyone who may have forgotten how, or just don't know. And so brought to you WITH illustrations!!! you start off on the main page ![]() and you want to move your cursor over to "Preferences" ![]() without clicking anything it should look like this and you'll want to click on "change avatar" ![]() That will bring you to this page: ![]() You'll want to focus on this section here: ![]() From this point, if you want to use a picture that's been saved on your computer you want to click the "choose file" button in first option, find your image, then click the "Use uploaded Avatar" button, and voila! If you want to use a picture from a website get the URL (ex. www.imagelocationhere.com) then copy and paste it into the box in the second option beside where it says "URL to Avatar", once you've done that, click the "Use URL Avatar" button and voila! |

Thanks once again Sarah! The pictures help a lot! Yes, I think it would be a good idea to pin this for others who are still slightly "computer challenged". In my case it was: learn one thing at a time before you tackle something else. Hence the reason why I didn't try to do more than type! Thanks for all your help everyone! Much appreciate it!

Oh darn! I just tried to put an avatar on from a URL and...nothing. There's a question mark where a lovely picture of Fraser should be! Boo hiss! And I followed Sarah's instructions to the letter. Do you know why this would be Sarah (or anyone else)? The picture in question was fairly large to begin with. Would this be a factor in why it wouldn't upload? (Hope I'm using the correct terminology here! ) Hmmm...I wonder if this will be another "third time's the charm" scenario.

The size could be a factor. I'm pretty sure it will automically resize pictures you have saved to your own computer, but don't know if that also works for ones from websites. If you get really stuck, you should PM William with the details of the picture you want to use, and he might be able to put the avatar up for you. |

Thanks for the reply Sarah (and Erin! )! Yes, I thought that copyright issues and/or size might be two factors in why it didn't succeed! I'm going to try the alternate method and see if that doesn't work. And yes, your instructions were crystal clear! The pictures were really helpful! Thank you kindly once again! Have you ever thought about a career writing "How To" manuals? Perhaps you could start your own publishing empire with a series called, "How to...for Super Dummies! For people who require micro step by micro step visual aid for things people of normal intelligence understand instantly!" Kat, yes, undercover work could be another possibility. I wonder if it involves another dress and high heels...

Well, I was right! The third time is the charm! I tried to re-up load the image I wanted from my computer and a message came back saying that the file was too big. Maximum size allowed was KB 25. This picture is close to the one I wanted, so it'll do. Anyway, I finally succeeded! Thanks for all your help everyone! Let me know if I can reciprocate in some way (just don't ask me about math, scientific, or computer related questions--or you'll be met with: ...
