Hi
Hello there, fellow Dueser!

Fellow what?
Dueser. Just like Star Trek fans call themselves Trekkies and X-Files fans call themselves X-Philes, Due South fans are called Duesers.

Due South? So this isn't a hair & cake message board?
No, I'm afraid it's not. Sorry.

Then why all the hair and cake talk everywhere?
Well, that's what every thread ends up being about.

Why?
We're not sure.

You're not sure?
Exactly.

That's a little weird, don't you think?
Very weird. Just like us.

So, do you have an admin I can contact to make a complaint about this nonsense?
That would be William, our fearless leader.

Fine, thank you. One more question.
Shoot!

Where's dutchie from? Sounds greek.
Shiloh actually made a where we live post where we're all listed.

Erin & Malcolm both live in England but are originally from Australia. They seem to know each other.
They are married. You get used to it.

There are so many Due South DVD sets, which one should I buy? I might wanna watch it sometime.
There are threads about that here and here.

Thanks. I think I'm gonna register. This seems like a nice place.
Oh it is. Welcome and have fun. You won't regret it.

---

Alright, I've been here for a while now and have some new questions.
Okay, go for it.

First of all, what about the turtle?
Well, what about it?

I don't get the turtle thing.
Neither do I. All I know is someone gave it the name "Lenny". But let's ask Mel, she seems to know more. Mel?

Mel: The short story about Lenny is that Stan mentions having a pet turtle in one or two episodes. At the end of CotW, it was never explained what happened to the turtle when Stan stayed in Canada - did he give it to his parents or a friend to look after? Did he just leave it? The welfare of fictional animals bothers me, hence the old thread somewhere in 'General' about it. Shasha, at least, was also quite concerned for the turtle, too (although some people seem to think we're looking too far into things tongue.gif) I think it was suggested that perhaps his mother stopped by occasionally to feed the turtle - although now I think Shasha's in charge of that herself laugh.gif
And as for the name.... I just always imagined that that is what he'd be called. There's no real reason for it!

Thank you kindly, Mel!

Yes, thank you Mel! Next question would be: what the heck is an HMM?
Short for "Hot Mountie Moment". A term invented by Erin and made into an acronym by CheerUpHamlet. The term itself, I think, is pretty much self-explanatory.

Indeed. And incredibly useful .... Aaand what does MABW stand for?
I keep forgetting. Shiloh, would you mind?

Shiloh: Melt A Brick Wall--usually used in reference to the smiles of PG, DM and CKR.

Thank you very much, Shiloh.

Thanks, Shiloh. Okay, one more abbreveation, then we're through with them. At least for now.
I've got time, I don't mind.

What does EFS mean?
Means "edited for spelling". This was first used by Shiloh after William, our fearless leader, made some changes. One of them meant that an edited post was now being tagged as "edited". We agreed that it was better for everyone to provide an explanation as well, when editing a post. After a while Shiloh got tired of spelling out "edited for spelling", which turned out to be the most frequent reason for people to edit their posts.

I've noticed there appears to be a movie called "20KLUTS" with Paul Gross in it. What a horrible name for a movie is that? And why have I never seen or heard of it?
You probably have. It was just another instance of Shiloh being lazy to spell something out. It simply stands for 20.000 Leagues Under The Sea.

Wow, that's creative.
Yeah, isn't it?

Well then, I'll look around some more. Might come back with more questions.
No problem.

---

Hey, I've got some technical questions now.
Oh dear.

First of all, what are these warn blips good for and what do I have to do to get warned?
We're still trying to figure that out ourselves. It's something William, our fearless leader, did in case someone behaves improperly. We don't know yet what you have to do to get warned. We've tried but failed. Here's a list of things that won't help:

- Going off topic in a forum about the show
- Going off topic in an off topic forum by actually talking about the show
- Posting sweat lodge pictures of Paul Gross, David Marciano, Callum Keith Rennie and some others. (We haven't tried female artists though)
- Ending each and every thread by talking about hair and/or cake
- Using the words "Anarchist", "kluts" (we haven't tried "klutz", though), or "gross"

I want an even more stupid member title than you. How do I do that?
My title isn't stupid. It's a way of life! Anyway, you can change that and other unimportant settings by clicking "My Controls" in the navigation bar above. But keep in mind that if you change your signature it's mandatory to add the forum mottoes "Maintain the hair" and/or "We always get our cake".

Oh really? In that case I'd rather not change anything.
Sorry, I was just kidding. Change it to whatever you want.

I spend hours looking at the "last click" list and I've noticed guests and members looking at topics that are not listed in the forums. How can that be?
Most likely, these topics haven't been updated within the last 30 days. If you want to see topics older than that, just scroll down and change the "Showing 12 of 12 topics sorted by..." drop down menu.

Oh, damn it, there already is a "How Many Closet Scenes Can We Think Of" topic. I just wanted to open that thread.
There's also a topic about the woman that was unhappy with Seattle karaoke singer attacks.

Fascinating...
Yeah I know. So, anything else?

Well yes. How comes that about 50% of George French's posts contain pictures of this strange guy?
Technically, that's not a technical problem (and I'm proud of that sentence). It's more of a psychological problem maybe. We believe it has to do with the TV show Firefly

okay, I'll check that later. Thank you, that's it for now.
You're welcome.

Hey chumpy
Hey FD!

FD?
Well yeah, that's the abbreviation for "Fellow Dueser." I just made it up.

Oh, okay. Talking about abbreviations. What does PGUHG stand for?
That's the "Pro Geoffrey Uncombed Hair Group." It originated in this topic, which is now our home topic so to speak, and heavily defended against our enemies, the people with the combs. Our motto therefore is maintain the hair. Wanna join us? Just add the motto to your signature.

Whoa that was a long response
Yes, sorry.

Sure. Fine. Whatever.
Didn't you come here to ask questions?

Yes I did. Say, why do you keep calling William "our fearless leader?"
Because he's fearless and our leader. I don't know, someone started it and everyone followed. And it's cool, so just accept it.

Sure. Fine. Whatever.
Anything else?

Uhm yeah. Have you guys ever met?
Well, I know that Telecat and Dutchie have. There's something about it here. And I think Helen has met Erin, or maybe Mel. Or Mel has met Erin, or Malcolm, or even both. Or was it Sarah? Frankly, I don't know. You better ask them.
Update: Okay, apparantly everyone has met everyone, except me.

Another question. I keep seeing this: \o/ what the heck is that supposed to mean?
Oh my god, don't you see it?
Posted Image
that's Paul throwing his arms in the air. You can use it when you've accomplished something for example. And it also works with one arm: \o
Posted Image

Ah, now I see it. Thank you kindly.
You're welcome.

Well then. I'm off surfing the forum
Sure. Fine. Whatever.

That's great, chumpy! Very informative and a good laugh too!

We need to add something about the forum-specific abbreviations, like EFS (Edited For Spelling) and FOTCL (Falling Off The Chair Laughing).

And don't forget to mention the turtle!

But FOTCL is a commonly used abbreviation, isn't it? Forum specific Abbreviations are a good idea though.I'll work on that.

I don't know enough about the turtle thingy. Someone has to explain it first. All I know is that it's called Lenny.

Oh? Sorry, I didn't know that. I hadn't seen it before Shiloh started using it. My mistake.

I'll have to leave that explanation to Shasha or Mel.

ETA: FOTCL is used, just rarely. You can find it in many internet vernacular lists. But the widely known and accepted version is still ROTFL. I have never seen it used anywhere else than here... but it is apparently used. Weird. I think people just prefer ROTFL. It looks better. I think FOTCL looks silly.

I've seen it before. Not as often as rotlf, but it comes up every now and then. So I just don't think it needs to be explained since I wouldn't consider it "forum specific".
