I can't help wondering what an Australian would think of Due South and how you came to love the show, Dolfyn! While you're probably sweating your life away and fighting bird-eating spiders down under, it's -24 C with the windchill here in Quebec, Canada.

Nah, bird-eating spiders aren't the problem, it's the people-eating ones I have to watch out for. (Kidding. ) As for the weather, it's going to be about 30C tomorrow. My brother started living in Canada in the late-'80s, he's lived there ever since. He has a son over there. My sister also moved over there about 10yrs ago. So I've been to Canada several times & I'm going over again this year in June/July. In fact, for part of the trip I'll be spending 2 weeks in Montreal with a friend I met through another fandom. Due South started airing in Australia the year after my first visit to Canada, so that on its own was enough to make me watch because I'd already developed an attachment to that beautiful country. Then of course I fell in love with Due South's stories, the humour & the characters; especially Benton of course. I was sad when the show ended. And then because that was before DVD box sets & buying stuff online really took off, Due South sort of slowly moved into the back of my memory banks as a quality show I had enjoyed but often forgot about because it was never re-aired here (that I'm aware of). And because Canada isn't good at promoting its own movies & TV shows internationally, I never saw Paul in anything else....... until late last year when Due South popped up somewhere online, Amazon I think. And I thought, "What the hell, I'll buy it! I enjoyed it back in the day." And I began watching & very quickly couldn't get enough, binge-watching all of it twice through within a month! I was once again blown away by the acting of the 2 leads, Paul's nuanced performances in particular I found absolutely mesmerizing (it's a bonus he's so pretty ). So the next inevitable step was to seek out other stuff he'd done & before I knew it I was buying up a bunch of DVDs! And now my Mum is working her way through my Due South DVDs & loving it too. I think she also has a bit of a crush on Paul. I just arrived home from her place a short time ago; I showed her a clip of Slings & Arrows to encourage her to watch it next. It was the scene where Jeffrey explains Ophelia's motivation to Claire, one of my favourite scenes! Sorry, that was quite lengthy post!

You need to hear this funny story about my brother's nephew, Max. Max was born in Canada but moved to Australia as a baby because of his father's work. He spent the first five years of his life in Australia and then had to move back to Canada. The family landed at the Calgary airport in December. Calgary is built on flat, prairie terrain, and Max stepped out of the airport to a cold, white, alien land. He was used to running around barefoot wearing only shorts and a tank top, but now had to put on a snowsuit, boots, mittens and a hat every time he went outside. He became really annoyed at this until he asked: "When are we going back to planet Earth?!"

HaHa!! Love it My Daughter was 5 left our home in Hawaii to my mother & father's house in Western NY state, in January. She couldn't believe it was cold out because the sun was out bright and it was hot in the house. She insisted she didn't need a coat to go outside. She was out about 2 seconds. she said "I think my teeth are going to break!" Welcome Dolfyn! Glad to have you! |

I love that we all have our own stories of how we discovered dS and where this show has taken us!

Welcome, Dolfyn! It's so great to see the 20 years on this fandom still grows and connects people from all over the world. A truly Canadian legacy, eh?

It's a worthy label. I joined a couple of fan forums (for other stuff) a bit over 10yrs ago & loved it there. I have continuing friendships from those days. But those forums shut down a few years ago (we all stay in touch on social media instead now) & I've missed having a forum to go to for my fan-girly whims. So finding this one has made me very happy, especially because you're all so friendly & respectful of each other. Bless.
