Also, ICYMI, your old metro trains are making their last runs this week before they give way to the rolling, articulated wind tunnels replacing them.

knowing nothing of trains (train travel/service isn't really a thing down here), could you post pics of the different cars?

I think I could assist on this. Here's a photo of the old-style Metro trains I'm familiar with in Montreal:

And a photo of the new ones that apparently will be starting service soon:

Those new trains have been around for months. River Driver and I actually rode a few on his last visit.
I won't miss the old ones. The new ones are quite spacious.

Best of all, for anyone who didn't have time to blow-dry their hair, the airflow through the train will take care of it in a wink!

I will say this for the old trains though. The rubber tires outboard of the steel wheels were a nifty touch, must have made slowing and stopping a lot easier.

I've got a couple of hours to drive to Montreal, half a day to take in the sights, and a couple of hours to drive back. That's two days....out of which one I got to spend with MacKenzie and Dolfyn!
Okay, so at 120 miles an hour, that's....two and a half hours. I save a day.

(I'm sorry, Dolfyn - my brain goes weird places when a quotable DS moment comes up. :P )

Wonderful to hear that you're having such a nice time Up Above. I don't know how you feel about cold weather, but hopefully this is a nice break from it. How was the trip up? Not too long and strewn with potholes?
Hey Riv, does this mean you're definitely coming to meet up with us? It'd be so great if you can. There's another girl from the DS FB page who's probably coming too. So that'll be 4 of us, which will be fun. The more the merrier.

My holiday has been amazing so far with only a small bump when I missed a domestic flight from Calgary to Vancouver due to having too many liquids in my carry-on. But I was able to get on the next flight which was a bit over an hour later. Other than that I've seen some wonderful sights & had a really lovely time staying with both family & friends, all of whom have been so hospitable. So far this is my best holiday ever! :D

Anyway, I jump on a bus tomorrow for my trip to Montreal, so I will post here either over the weekend or early next week before the meet-up days. I'm looking forward to meeting you guys! :)

My trip to Vancouver and generally British Columbia in 2014 is also one of the best holidays I've had. What an awesome piece of land.
Glad to hear you're liking it so far! :)

Isn't it River Driver's birthday today?
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!

A new member on the Due South Facebook group was asking for fan fiction recommendations, and I suggested your stuff.
She really loved A New Leaf and commented: "I chose one of Shadow2Serenity's works (the one where he falls in love with the infamous green vehicle, as a boy) and you're right, he has an uncanny knack for Ray V's character -- and Ray's entire family. Great find!"

Yes, it's certainly a beautiful place with nice people.

I finally arrived in Montreal last night after my bus was delayed by an hour & a half! I've already tried some poutine & orange julep. I think today will be a pretty relaxed one because tomorrow we're heading to Kingston for a couple of days. :)

And happy birthday to River Driver! I hope you have a lovely day & get some cool presents.

Tomorrow is Québec's National holiday (St-Jean Baptiste), so you could have seen some fireworks and other festivities. Too bad. Maybe you'll get to see some for Canada Day. Will you be here on July 1st?

Also, in answer to Riv's question, I'm extremely happy to be away from Winter back home! I love Melbourne but I hate Winter in Melbourne. It's lovely to be in a warmer climate with longer days.

Yes, I think I'll be here for Canada Day. My friend did mention something about fireworks somewhere. :)

Yep, yesterday was my birthday. Since the final close on my new house got pushed back YET ANOTHER WEEK  , I just went out to see Incredibles 2 with some friends. Despite being an animated family film, it actually had a very important, relevant message, summed up in one line: "SCREENS ARE EVERYWHERE."

Yeahso.

Sad to say I probably won't make it to Montreal, inasmuch as final close is now slated for next Friday (unless the bank decides at the last possible dwindling second that they have to conduct yet ANOTHER property/loan/agreement/insurance review and push closing back ANOTHER week, which will have me bashing my head against the nearest brick wall if I receive word of such by week's end). God, the headaches.

At least one of us is having a nice time out there.

And MacKenzie, thank you for sharing those comments!! I do hope that new FB fan reads High Iron Fist next; that's the one long-form DS story I've written that I'm truly proud of.

Aw, sorry to hear about your troubles & that you can't join us, Riv. :( Maybe next time I'm in Canada.
