I have some sad news for you. Today, one of our goldfish (who I don't think ever had an official name, but I've been calling him Saturn) died of unknown causes. This came as quite a shock to me, not only because he was only one year old (our previous two goldfish lived to be 6 years old), but also because he seemed perfectly healthy a couple of days ago, whereas with the other two they had looked ill for a few days before (although, by this stage, it was sadly too late to do anything about it).

I don't know whether we'll be getting another fish; after all, Jupiter (who isn't looking his best, to be honest, but let's hope he survives) has grown larger than any of the other fish we've had.

I'm sorry to hear that :( . As you say, it's quite a shock that he died at such an early age and was apparently healthy. Has Jupiter grown large enough that it's probably better to have the tank to himself, and in what way(s) does he not look his best?

Well, he's just not looking as energetic as normal, and he's swimming relatively slowly. He's probably still small enough to have a companion, but he's bigger than most of the fish we could find in the pet shop about a year ago, so it'd probably be quite difficult to find a suitable replacement.
