http://www.4to40.com/images/earth/geograph..._body_parts.jpg the largest bird, is a Gold-Crowned Kinglet, and here's the parts that go with that picture: eye line Line of feathers in front of and behind the eye. crown Top of the head. lore Area between the eye and the bill. mustache Area at the sides of the chin. Synonym(s): whisker, malar streak breast Front part of the chest. rump Area between the uppertail coverts and the back. flank Area between the belly and the wings, more posterior. wing bars Pale tips of greater and median secondary coverts. The small grey bird that's pinkish red is a Pyrrhuloxia (I htink that's how you spell it) and the parts that go with it: crest Tuft on the head. The bird with red, blue, green is a Painted Bunting and here's the parts that go with it: eye ring Pale-colored feathers encircling the eye. cheek Area bounded by lore, eye, auricular, and lower mandible. The first wing is probably from some kind of Finch (or Rose-Breasted Grosbeak?), and here's the parts that go with it: wing lining Median, lesser and marginal coverts on underwing. primaries Flight feathers attached to the "hand." secondaries Flight feathers attached to the "elbow." The second bird wing is from a Mallard (or maybe Northern Shoveler) and here's the parts that go with it: scapulars Area of feathers between the back and the wings. speculum Highly colored area on secondaries of several ducks. trailing edge of wing Rear edge of the wing in flight. Another useful, informative tutorial. Here's a thought: this and the other tutorials would probably work well on a 'Bird Wiki' which could get its own topic. It'd also enable others to add to them. |
