The CRF has now hit a total of 59,000 posts!
That means we're now only 1,000 away from 60k; reckon we can make it by the end of the year?

Freshers @ CRF: Goodbye & Good Luck

Commiserations... or rather, I shouldn't say that, of course we're not disappointed - we're pleased for CJ going to University tommorow - starting in the big wide world to get his degree! And no, of course I don't mean that in a rude way, we don't want rid of CJ, do we guys?
But one thing I will say, is this: It's been almost two years since I've been back at CRF, and almost about a year since I've been on the team. In that time, I've come to enjoy this forum and I really can't say how great it has been working here, posting here, doing things here, talking here and helping out here!
But that's down to one guy - CJ!
We all know if it wasn't for CJ, this place would never have been opened, I wouldn't be here, neither would some great names like CandyGuitar, PandaLover, FalkonHawk, instantstar41, Michelle, FlamingFireExtinguisher, Penguin, Hiyawoffa, lamna, CyberCheetah and HoD to mention all but a few.
So thank you CJ, without your input, this place would certainly not be what it is today.
And to sum up, I've written a poem. Now, I did say we would have a Mince Pie eating contest, and I forgot about it, so I went and ate all the Mince Pies. Oops! I'll give you one sometime soon.
To be honest, I've never been one for writing poems, but all things aside, I did put together this one quickly for CJ and everyone else to read. So I'm sorry if it sounds a bit cheesey, but what can ya do, hey?!
See, I told you it was cheesy!
Oh well.
And before we send off CJ to Oxford, I've got a road rant. I hear "Oh No - Do I have to hear this?!?!?!" coming from the crowd, but yes, we do, as I know this one will bring a smile to CJ's face.
I know that one wasn't very funny, but I hope it will remind CJ of me everytime he's at Uni and he wants cheering up - even though I'm sure he won't need that. That was the funniest road rant I've had today I'm afraid, I'm sorry!
So, I've devised a quick, 5 question, for fun - Bots game about CJ and his forum, now I'm sure most of you know the answers, but I'm hoping this is a good send off game for CJ, just before he goes. This is not a multiple choice one, and no, they are not Uni style questions!
Bots Trivia - CJ
1) What subject does CJ like the most?
2) At which University will CJ be studying at?
Bonus: Which campus?
3) True or False: CJ is going to continue to visit CRF / ImF whilst he is studying?
4) At what time tonight did CJ go to bed?
Ok, Ok, I couldn't think of any more, but there you go, have fun answering those. We'll have a big Bots contest after he's gone!
Well, there's one final thing I'd like to discuss.
Shared Memories:
I know what you're thinking. Yes, I do.
You're thinking, this sounds like a wedding or funeral speech? Well, as a matter of fact, it isn't. I'd just like to share a few memories of CJ, mainly quotes from around the forums actually, ones that I have browsed for; now, if I could make this into a movie, I would, okay?!
Some quotes, old and new, extracted from the forums. All of course, written by CJ at his best.
Praising people, asking questions, being helpful, and renowned for winning awards! Ohh, and even enforcing the rules!
(It's nice to know we're protected).
Well, what can I say? What can I say? I can say to you CJ, it's the best forum in the world, you've given us some great features, being the arcade and the stupid shoutbox doing its weird things as per usual! And even a Twitter page.
On a final note from myself and on behalf of all of the staff team here at Chess Resources Forum, we wish you well and the best of luck at Oxford University and your studies. (oops, I kinda gaveaway an answer to Bots there!). You shall be missed by us all and we have come to appreciate and respect you for your operation and services here at the forums.
And if ever you feel you need to turn to someone, we're always going to be here for you!

Ok, ok, I made it in Paint -so what, who cares, it's an image!
Right,
*Applauds*
*Turns on the music*
Lets let this party begin, guys.
Ohh, and I'd appreciate it if you could all make lil' speeches for CJ before he goes, even if it is a bit late now!
Thanks folks.
The last time CJ was seen, and we know he'll be back before long, but... :o)

If it wasn't for you,
there's not much we could do,
Happiness and fun,
through and through.
Built from scratch,
hand in hand,
You developed this forum,
We understand.
Maths is your direction,
From perfect to perfection,
We're here to guide you,
And offer you affection.
I've been busy,
you hear our cries,
But you can't bear
the tears in our eyes.
Now is the time for you to depart,
We wish you farewell,
From near, from Far.
Goodbye, Good friend,
I shall not pretend,
The times we have shared,
Will never end.
The end
See, I told you it was cheesy!

So today, I was driving along a nice quiet country route. When all of a sudden, out of nowhere appears a 4x4. So I decided, lets outsmarten this 4x4 and drive slowly to make him annoyed. What did I do? Come down to 30mph and hope he'd overtake. Then he stayed and tailgated me for quite a while, in fact, even followed me into the village that I was heading to! But I'll admit, holding up a 4x4 is the best thing to do, especially if they like to tailgate you.

Since we haven't done a stats update for so long, let's do one here:

I'll add a coffee topic, lol.

Right...how can I put this? I copied from Leprechaun, who copied from CG, who copied from Mitternacht.

This is why I'm so proud of everyone here - I'm sure you'll forgive the cliché, but without you, Chess Resources certainly wouldn't be what it has become.

Don't post to indicate a typo - it doesn't contribute to the discussion and it can be done via PM, or you can just leave it, as we all know what the typo means.

Today, I represented the school I attend in a match against another school from St. Helen's. Each team had six members, so six games were played in all: one by each member. As the captain of my school's team, I played on Board One against the other school's captain, who wasn't a bad player at all. In the end, I won my match, but I think I was forced to play a good game, and, most importantly, I enjoyed the match (which our school won 3½-2½ in the end). Hopefully, more will be forthcoming soon.

It also leads me to wonder, if this can happen to a business such as Woolworths, who will be next?

Take no notice of the title.

Do you chew pencils/pens? It's a weird habit, but I do sometimes.

Yes, but...I know what a palm tree is, but we don't have any here

Wow...even I had no idea that you could do things like this, and that's from someone who's seen how good your pen sketsches are!

I Could Post Less

Just to let you know, I need a corrective operation today (nothing too serious), and as a result of the anaesthetic and exhaustion from the procedure, it is highly likely that my forum activity levels will wane over the next few days. I'm not staying in hospital overnight (let's hope) and I may be on tonight or tomorrow morning, depending on how I'm feeling. If I am on the forum tonight, it will only be to use the shoutbox, probably.
See you!
See you!
New profile field added

I've added a new field to member profiles, so you can now display your real name if you want to. Whether you display your full name, just your first name, or anything at all, is up to you.
Enjoy!

New link

Good evening,
You'll notice I've added a new link at the bottom of the forums. It leads to a new blog index, which lists all members' blogs to make them more accessible; before, they could only be accessed from the members' profiles. If you want me to add your blog, please PM me or post your request here.
I hope you like this update!

I'm also going away

As you will have read in my blog, I'm off on holiday today to the Canary Islands for two weeks. I'm not sure if I'll be able to use the Internet in my hotel, but if I can, I'll be on the forum sporadically. I leave my forums in the very capable hands of the staff if I do not show my face.
See you later, or in two weeks!

Going away (sort of)

I'll be going on holiday to Bergen with my family today, returning (I think) on Monday. I believe the hotel has wireless internet, so I should be able to come online (albeit not as much as usual), although if I can't, you know where I am.
See you in Norway, or see you when I get back!

Two new Golden Members!
Posted by Chess Resources King (Administrators) at Jul 8 2009, 06:57 AM. 5 comments
Well...this is a first in CRF history. I'm promoting two new people to Golden Member status at once! The reason is that they've been very active recently - even more so than some other Golden Members in the past (I'm looking at you, White Tiger...
), so it just doesn't seem right that they're not rewarded.
I'd like to congratulate lamna and instantstar41 on achieving Golden Membership! Enjoy the privileges associated with being a Golden Member

.Signature rules relaxed
Posted by Chess Resources King (Administrators) at Jun 19 2009, 07:36 PM. 8 comments
Until today, signatures were limited to 600 characters, and they were not allowed to extend beyond 150 pixels down the screen. These rules were restrictive and a bit of a nuisance, so I've increased the limits to 1000 characters and 225 pixels.
Enjoy your new longer sig capabilities!

Yet another chatbox announcement
Posted by Chess Resources King (Administrators) at Jun 14 2009, 06:55 AM. 7 comments
It turns out that the chatbox I added a few days ago was making the forums take too long to load for dial-up users (Yes, amazingly, some people still have it!). As a result, I've added a different chatbox at the bottom of the forums. However, I have kept a link to the other cbox for those who preferred it (although I don't expect this should make it any less practical, since it's only useful for anything when opened in an external window anyway).
