Ran Yakumo
Personality, History, and Basic InfoGame/Game Series: Touhou
Character Name(s): Ran Yakumo,
Former Shikigami of the Gap YoukaiAge: Over 800 years old. Specific Age unknown.
Appearance: Ran Yakumo is of average height, with pale blonde hair, the same colour as the fur on her tails, though her tails are tipped with white. On top of her head, she has two fox ears, as would be expected on a Kitsune. As far as clothes go, she wears a rather long robe, the ends dragging on the ground when she does decide to walk. On the robes, there's a black section on the front and back that trails on the ground further than the robes themselves, adorned with intricate blue designs. The collar is made up of white fur, and there seem to be various belts on different parts of the robes. Her eyes are the same pale yellow as her hair, and her skin is pretty pale.
Powers, Training and Weapons: Danmaku: Ran, being a denizen of Gensokyou also has access to the generation of Danmaku, various shapes and sizes of bright, colourful bullets and bombs that blanket entire areas of land, or skies. Despite being 800 years old, she's not too precise when aiming, and prefers to overwhelm her opponents by shooting Danmaku in all directions. Her general attack involves purple Kunai Knives made up of Danmaku. (Most likely
Clear Intellect: Ran is, for lack of a better word, a genius. In an instant, she is able to formulate equations to solve complex problems, or even sometimes outright solve said complex problems in said instant.
Flight: Self-explanatory. Ran can fly. She uses this as her main mode of transportation, and rarely walks.
Using Shikigami: Despite being a Shikigami herself, Ran has a Shikigami of her own. A servant, of sorts. However, her Shikigami, Chen, doesn't necessarily listen to her perfectly. This ability will likely not come into play, however, as, to her knowledge, Chen and Yukari haven't entered the Multiverse.
Weakness: Despite her ability to stay calm in most situations, Ran can't understand emotions very well, and is still trying to get a good grasp on why humans and other living things act a certain way. This causes her to be pretty bad at consoling people, empathizing or sympathizing with anyone, and she can come off as cold and biscuit-eater-y at times. This also means that when people act in unpredictable ways or in ways that she hasn't seen before, such as someone pulling a move in combat that she wasn't prepared for, she would most likely be pretty confused.
Personality: Ran is, again, seen to be very cold and calculating to an absurd extent. When she does feel emotion, it's either very basic, and if it ever gets any more complex than that, it confuses her and makes her feel sick to her stomach. She is devoutly loyal to her Master, Yukari, and does care for her own Shikigami, Chen, quite a bit, however even these feelings, she has trouble expressing. She is very much left-brained to a hindering degree, finding joy in calculating various equations or problems in her head, simply to do so, though it could also be useful at times in situations that would otherwise need, say, a calculator and various sheets of paper. However, despite all of this, she still feels basic emotions as anyone would. Anger. Fear. Happiness. Sadness. Not that she can express them all too well, but she will make it known, to a degree. Her level of patience can vary, though it is typically high. Also, she has quite the fondness for Tofu and foods with Tofu in it.
History: Ran's past is largely unknown save for maybe a few tidbits here and there. At a young age, though not necessarily as a child, she had met Yukari Yakumo, shortly after becoming her Shikigami for unknown reasons. Since then, Ran has served Yukari devoutly, though seems to often forget that she's a shikigami simply due to Yukari sleeping most of the time. This tends to cause Yukari to become angry and scold her, and caused Ran to develop a bit of a lazy streak early on. This had also caused Yukari to scold her quite a bit, but the two seem to have a rather good relationship otherwise, in terms of being able to communicate with one another, and Ran's unquestioning loyalty. Ran has most recently spent her time wandering Gensokyou on Yukari's orders to inspect various anomalies or situations that may require Yukari's attention, such as any problems that may spring up around the Great Hakurei Barrier.
In recent times, there had been a strange anomaly occurring about the Barrier on one of Ran's patrols. Of course, she had spotted it and immediately went to go fetch Yukari. They both arrived, and Yukari went to inspect the problem. Ran, as always, followed close behind her master, in case she was needed. However, as fate would have it, Ran would not be returning to Gensokyou for quite some time. The problem itself was a strange rift in time-space, possibly leading to another world or dimension. As Yukari goes to forcefully close it, it seems to trigger something within, causing Ran to get sucked in within the blink of an eye, shortly before the rift closes.
The rift had apparently led to... well, somewhere. Ran wakes up on what she would eventually find out to be The Moon, or the center of the multiverse...
RP Sample: A cool breeze blows by, causing the robe-wearing Kitsune to shiver ever so slightly, her dull yellow eyes staring out at the river before her. The Sanzu River. The place was cold, lifeless, and in all honesty, pretty loud at times. Sitting down some ways away, she stairs out at the waters, before pulling out a few pieces of parchment, an inkwell, and a quill. Dipping the tip of the feather in the dark, technically colourless liquid, she starts writing out numbers, occasionally looking back up to the river for a few seconds before looking back down at the paper. For more than a few hours, and according to some accounts, possibly a day or two, Ran Yakumo sits, and writes. The writings would look like nonsense to normal folk, those unable to comprehend this higher level of super-computation. After a while, the equation was completed. The river's width had been calculated simply by her looking at it and thinking. The paper was there simply to serve as a placeholder for certain steps, or perhaps to show off to people. In all honesty, the calculations were done in nearly an instant, most of the time going into writing everything out, as well as double, triple, and quadruple checking herself.
Getting up, she leaves the inkwell and quill, her cold eyes staring out at the river as she puts the pieces of parchment away. "...rotting time away like this... what a waste." The words held a hint of venom, going to show that she probably wasn't happy with the results of her endeavor for the little useless fact she had slaved for hours to attain. The width of the Sanzu. Who would use that? Schools? With a sigh, the Shikigami cracks her neck, before taking a deep breath. At least it have been mostly quiet whilst figuring this all out. And maybe that weird teacher would give her some free tofu if she were to present her discoveries. "Worth a shot, I suppose," she says to no one in particular, stretching upwards now with a yawn. "I wonder if Yukari-sama is awake yet... well. Let's hope not." With that said and done, Ran hovers upwards, before lazily flying away towards the human village. Yukari slept for so long that she sometimes thought that she should do the same. But that wouldn't end well for her, taking all things into account...
