A sunny day in the Commonwealth. Temperatures weren't too high, and a gentle breeze felt cool to the skin. It was a beautiful day, which meant that the daily toil and struggle to survive could at least be carried out in comfort today. The ruins of Boston were still as deadly as ever, the crumbling urban sprawl hosting countless vicious beasts and ruthless cutthroats. But in the northeast corner of the city, in the Fens district, stood the largest settlement of this region of the Wasteland. Diamond City, the Great Green Jewel, born within the massive and sturdy walls of Fenway Park. The expansive shantytown within the ballpark's walls was home to hundreds, and many many more across the Commonwealth came in the pursuit of shelter, trading, or other pressings needs. Men, and the occasional woman, clad in baseball helmets and umpire pads and carrying poor-to-decent quality rifles patrolled the surrounding streets, and even more milled about and stood watch within the shantytown itself. The most recognizable feature of the city was the marketplace that stood at its center, a caldera surrounded by the shacks made of scrap, sheet metal, and old vehicles and trailers. Stalls and stores offering all sorts of merchandise -- weapons, armor, clothes, chems, scrap. And of course, food. And the very center of the marketplace was the hottest place to catch a quick lunch. An industrial tower made of scrap stood tall, bellowing steam from the kitchen inside it. A neon sign depicting a bowl of noodles shined on its side. The structure was lined by five blue counters, and red canopies provided shade for the patrons of Power Noodles. An empty bowl was pushed to the far end of a counter, and the noodle stand's Protectron sole owner and chef lumbered over to pick it up. "Nan-ni shimaso-ka?" "Yeah, one more." Albert said, dropping some caps when the robot outstretched his free hand. As the Protection stomped off for the refill, he twisted around to look behind him. "Zenitia, you--" "Couple minutes, just putting it back together." She replied immediately, making the old man chuckle with a smirk and turn back around. While they'd been browsing Commonwealth Weaponry earlier, she splurged and bought herself a new revolver, and she'd been hard at work dismantling and examining the gun. She was probably the first person he knew that'd prefer to examine a gun instead of eating after hours on the road. Glancing to the seat on his right, he found Abigail about halfway through her own bowl of noodles. Based on her pleased expression, she was enjoying them as much as he had. Her teddy bear, Yugo, was sitting on the counter next to her. Much to everyone's amusement, Takahashi had placed an empty cup in front of him, as if serving him food. A part of Albert was honestly a bit wary of noodles from god knows where, made by a robot that could only repeat one line and didn't even have a full hand. But they were damn good, Takahashi seemed pretty cool, and they probably weren't a repeat of Igauna Bob's Iguana Bits, so. What the hell, right? Takahashi was already shuffling back with his new bowl. Grinning, he grabbed his fork and began to dig in. |
