The sun was in the middle of the sky, probably just a bit after noon or so. Enough so the sky was a nice blue, even with the small ashfall that was currently happening. Still, even on a picture perfect day, like most Hoenn days, Douglas was in a slight bit of a sad mood. He had called this place home since he had first arrived in the mutliverse, and it was honestly hard for him to see go. This had been day two of packing, he was taking all the time he could to milk all the time he could before he left. Still, the Tower did offer far better technological research possibility than the wonderful world of Pokemon...

Oh heck, he was still going to miss this place.

His chair squeaked as he looked at his workshop, the large doorway to the outside open for one of the rare few times. The cabin it was connected too had been all but cleared out, save for things bolted to the ground. All that was left to take out was what remained in the workshop. Some chairs, a few tables, a box of tools in the corner, the monitor that was only displaying a blue screen at the moment.

Oh, and the Hawk Ride Armor that sat in the middle.

"Hey," he called out to his helper for the day, who was just outside, "You don't think me transporting this thing to the Moon will be consider an act of war, do you?"

Fight, X! For everlasting peace!

Really, X should’ve had the idea of coming down to one of these worlds a long time ago; he’d gotten so caught up in the idea of establishing himself well in the Multiverse that he’d completely forgotten to enjoy it – or at the very least, enjoy the one thing his homeworld couldn’t offer him any longer: nature.

”Sure, we have all those artificial forests, jungles and beaches back home…” He thought to himself. “But none of them can compare to the real things.” At least, that was the conclusion he’d come to after spending hours taking in Hoenn’s beautiful nature and remarkable fauna.

As he continued his stationary walk, however, the hours grew uncomfortably long. Sure, there were roads to lead the way back to other towns, but X, in his whimsy, had strayed off the path and landed himself a ticket to the middle of nowhere. It was kind of odd feeling how lost he was without the aid of a navigator… and it was times like these that he missed Alia… and Layer… and Palette.

A few further hours of admiration-sulking, however, and X found himself in front of a lonely cottage right as the clock struck twelve (Or at least, that’s what he figured from the positioning of the sun. His internal clock was busted). Figuring it couldn’t hurt to at least check if there was anyone that could guide him back to the nearest shuttle station, X gently but surely approached the open garage door. “Hello? Anyone there? Sorry to intrude, but I need…” His sentence trailed off as he peeked inside, as whom he saw left him speechless.

“Douglas!” X exclaimed in elation as he rushed to greet the familiar face inside, skipping past the familiar look of the Armor in the middle of the room. “Wh-, how-, I- what are you doing here?!”

Douglas had began to dig in a box of tools when X arrived, maxing sure that his magnets would hold the tools securely during the move. The last thing he wanted was to lose all of his fancy wrenches due to the sheer price he had paid for them. He called out from inside the box, "Hey! I'm a bit busy, just one second-"

Wait a minute, this person knew his name, and that voice.

The mechanic's head shot from the box, a look of shock crossing his face as he saw his old friend running towards him. "X?" He spoke in a bewildered tone, only to soon enough beam with happiness, "X! Oh my god! It's been years buddy!" He ran forward away from the box, enveloping X in a very tight bear hug. It only lasted for a second before he broke it off and took a step back, making a sound that sounded like he was clearing his throat, "Right yeah, g-great to see you man. Anyways, I uh, I live out here, well, moving out of living here. Ha ha, volcanic ash might look cool falling from the sky but man it messes with sensors, radar, TV, you name it. Buuuut I can totally see how those locals love it here, except the ash. I'll never understand Lavaridge's fascination with... yeah..."

He put his hands on his hips, "Hey, did you get a body upgrade? I don't remember that look on you before I retired."

Awkwardly yet joyfully returning the hug, X couldn’t help but smile, even if it was starting to get a bit too tight for comfort. “Y-Yeah! I haven’t seen you since we took on the Nightmare Phenomenon… how have you been? Or, well, more importantly, how did you end up here of all places?” X wasn’t usually this talkative, but man did it feel good to see a familiar face here in the multiverse, especially one that he hadn’t seen for long even by arrival-on-multiverse standards. Everything about the support reploid before him evoked a sensation of days long gone and long desired: His trademark grin, the oversized goggles, the joyful hands-on-hip stance… while X prided himself in not being one to be blinded by nostalgia goggles, right now the allure of the days before the Eurasia crash were hard to deny.

“Hm? Oh.” That’s right, he’d undergone several upgrades since they’d last met. “Yeah, these parts are new. Some are some armor parts I decided to keep, but most are just upgrades I got from our new maintenance girl at HQ.” X would never say it directly to her face, but in his opinion Palette was much more effective on maintenance and lab duty than as a navigator (not that she was a bad navigator, but… her voice was simply unfortunate in design, as it got kind of grating after a while, especially when she got stressed and demanded to be listened to.) “There’s even some New Generation parts thrown in, but they’re mostly recycled prototype bits.”

“Douglas?” A second familiar voice called out from behind a door at the backside of the garage. “Did someone stop by? Please tell me it’s not more trainers…”

Setting his sight behind Douglas, X saw the familiar sight of Alia step out from behind a metal door. He would have been twice as elated from twice as many familiar faces, but… something about Alia was off here; she hadn’t worn short hair for a long time now, and her breastplate was severely outdated… as a matter of fact, her entire look was severely outdated, like she’d gone back to her older blueprints. “Alia? Oh, thank goodness; I thought I was the only one who was brought here. You wouldn't happen to know how we got here, would you?”

"Man, I missed quite a bit, didn't I?" The mechanic gave a very slight shrug, "Every now and again I wonder how I could've helped during the whole Red Alert or New Generation incidents. Then again, I think I did enough helping out with repairs and stuff in the civilian sector." He paused for a moment, as something clicked in his head, "Wait, new maintenance girl? You don't mean that Palette girl, do you? I only heard mumbling about what happened at the HQ after I retired, and not much even in the multiverse but-"

Alia's appearance stopped Douglas' long winded rambling. He took a slight step back as X spoke to her, giving the two a clear line of view. Just hearing X speak was tell Douglas all he needed to know about the newcomer, it seemed a bit of explaining was needed for this situation. It was never easy, he'd run into quite a number of newcomers to the multiverse in his time within it. The most notable was having to re-explain the whole situation to Rock after he was rebuilt, thankfully there was far less Mega Busters being fired off in this situation.

...right, Rock, this was going to get awkward really quickly on two ends.

"Riiiight, yeaaah, about that..." Douglas looked down at the floor for a moment, "I don't think any of us know how we got here. It just kind of happened to us at some point. I showed up a few years ago, Alia showed up about six months ago. Hell, R- a guy I know showed up almost a decade ago." He gave a slight look to the navigator, hoping she caught on and wouldn't bring up Mega Man. He looked back to X, "Of course, it seems like it just, flings us back whenever it feels like it. People I know have friends for years that just one day vanish, presumably returned home like nothing ever happened. Of course, it's actually not bad here, quite the opposite! Like, I'd never figured I'd see what our world would look like in two hundred years..."

He gaze shifted slightly as he mumbled to himself, "Not exactly what I wanted to see but..."

He returned his view to X, "Anyways, the big thing is, it's not some horrible nightmare here as you'd expect when you go through the magical rifts. It's actually very nice!"

X smiled earnestly. “You certainly did. Sometimes I wonder how things might have gone differently had you still been with us. Pallet’s a great technician, but you knew my system like the back of your hand.”

“X!” Alia called out in excitement before running towards the aforementioned Android and giving him a somewhat awkward yet tight hug. “Oh, it’s good to see you again!” Normally the reddish Reploid didn’t allow herself to get too excited – much less while at work – but this was neither work nor any normal occasion! X returned the friendly hug, of course, though a bit sheepishly. Alia had never hugged him before, now that he thought about it.

“How we got here? Oh! Uh… X, I’ve been here for half a year now. The multiverse didn’t warp us off at different times, did it?”

X scratched his head. “I wouldn’t think so. I… Actually, I saw you the very day I was dragged here. You were certainly not wearing your older parts, though. Would…” And then it clicked; what Xeon had told him had finally caught up with him.

“X? What’s the matter?” Alia asked, a tinge of concern on her voice.

“Well…, now that I think about it, it’s possible you might not be the exact Alia I knew. What was the last thing to happen before you got here?” X asked, equally concerned.

“...Ah, I see.” Alia should have known, really. There wasn’t a very particular reason why meeting a future version of X should be any less joyful than meeting X from the exact timeline she was from, but it still felt a little… disappointing? “Well, a few days before I was dragged here in my sleep, you’d just quit as a Maverick Hunter and gone on towards Judge duty. How long did that last?”

“Oh, that.” X chuckled. “Not as long as I wanted it to. A lot’s happened since then for me, though I guess if you ever get back it’s best not to spoil it.”

Alia was quick to pick up on Douglas’s subtle hint regarding Rock. Yeah, now that she thought about it, for the two to meet wouldn’t be the greatest idea ever…

“Right… our world…” X addressed the issue as directly as he could. “If you don’t mind, I’d like for you to keep discussion about that to a minimum around me. I’ve been told I become an important figure in the future of our world, and frankly, I’d like to keep my knowledge of our future to an absolute minimum in case I ever come back. Knowing that I’ll eventually be referred to as “master” is already hard to bear.”

"Yeaaaah," Douglas put his hands together, tapping the two index fingers on the tips as he pointed them upward slightly, "See I joined an organization that was... kinda built on elements from our future. I'll try to keep it down to a minimum if that's what you want, I totally understand. There's quite a few things I wouldn't like to know about the future." He split his hands apart before giving a slight clip, "But it's fine! it's fine! The multiverse has actually given me the opportunity to interact with the past, and even a past that doesn't exist for us!"

He turned his head towards Alia for a moment, "I think we can tell him about Kalinka's work, doesn't exactly fit into any of our potential timelines or scenarios."

His head shot back to X, his eyes nearly sparkling with excitement, "Okay X, get this. In a way, you, have a step-brother in the multiverse!" He cleared his throat, toning down his excitement a bit as to not creep out his friend, "Okay, jumping the gun a bit. I'm sure you remember that time we read up on Mikhail Cossack and his scientific advancements, y'know, modern Charge features for Busters and such. Well his daughter appeared in the multiverse and started development on a lost project that was going to be between him and Dr. Light. His name is Rocket, and he's the first in a new line of soon to be defenders called the Over series."

His eyes shifted to the side as he muttered to himself, "...aaaand we still should tell Roll abut him..."
