I am a magical fairy.

Valerie let out a heavy but satisfied sigh, relaxing just a little in her chair. Today had been so wonderfully exhausting, and it felt so good getting a chance to take a break... she'd flown into Kanto a few days ago, and thankfully she'd been able to find a hotel room at Saffron City. Well, not that that was much of a surprise, considering her prestigious status, but that was something which Valerie often forgot or paid little attention to. Ordinarily, she'd have preferred to sit inside, but the weather was pleasant, and she was having fun watching various people walk by.

It wasn't a particularly important event, at least to Valerie personally, but having the opportunity to show her outfits off at the convention was something she enjoyed greatly despite the toll it took on her, along with all the other fun things to do or see. Right now, though, she just needed to rest. With a soft yet polite expression of gratitude, the gym leader accepted her cup of tea from the waitress and offered a smile, looking over at the other end of the table before taking a sip. She'd considered it a good idea to bring Nu-13 along, seeing as how the other girl seemed like she needed something fun to do, and the Murakumo Unit had enjoyed herself a lot. Nu's eyes were closed and she was curled up a little, taking a brief nap in her seat; while she was apparently able to operate on much less sleep than normal for a human, the silver-haired girl's decision to stay up all night attending events apparently still had consequences. So long as she was happy, though, Valerie didn't mind.

If Red had known a convention was happening over the next few days, he would have delayed his trip to the big city. All he had wanted to do was challenge Sabrina to a battle, a rematch he knew she would more than happily accept to redeem herself after their last bout. Yet, thanks to the convention, the Gym Leader had closed her Gym due to the sheer amount of challenges she had been bombarded with. Maybe he could fight her another time, it might have been better to wait anyways. The whole drain thing within the multiverse had significantly weakened his Pokemon, and a battle may have been a losing one.

He tugged his jacket down a bit to smooth out the wrinkles as he entered the outdoor section of a cafe. Nearly as soon as he took a seat, Zapper broke out of her ball and sat on the table in front of him. The trainer's eyes narrowed slightly, but she wasn't doing harm and decided to leave her to place herself as the Queen Pikachu of the Random Table Kingdom.

"Hellooo~," A waitress appeared next to him, "I'm Ann-" She stopped, and her eyes widened as she realized who it was, "-a-and I-I'll be your waitress. C-can I start y-you off with a d-drink?"

A point to a popular soda brand was the only response she got from the amazingly quiet trainer. She was gone in a flash, off to grab his order and not yap to everyone he was here. At least that's what he hopped she was doing. Something told him, a gut feeling that she would go off to the other waitstaff and tell them the former Champion was getting a drink. He leaned back in his chair, awaiting and possible onslaught of requests for autographs, or possibly battles. His eyes trailed over to other customers, landing on a pair of girls a table over.

Say, he'd seen one of the girls before, but where...?

At first, even with the other waitress's reaction, Valerie didn't pay any attention to the newcomer. She just kept watching the sky, sighing happily to herself. Eventually, though, her gaze inadvertently turned in his direction, and she paused. Something about the man seemed... 'familiar' wasn't the right word, he just caught her attention somehow. Strange, seeing as he wasn't the sort of person she normally took notice of. His Pokemon was cute, though, and Valerie couldn't help but smile at it, giving a small, cheery wave. She lowered her winged arms under the table and out of view, evidently somehow conjuring a pokeball and procuring a Mawile, which nonchalantly began to waddle over, flexing its tiny fingers and smiling confidently.

The gym leader turned her attention back to Red, remaining just as silent as the other trainer while smiling warmly and staring intently into his eyes. Nu remained asleep, yawning loudly as she rolled onto her other side; miraculously, the small silver-haired girl managed to avoid falling out of her chair.

When the woman gave a wave, the trainer had a feeling he may have been staring at them for a slight bit too long. Giving a small smile and a nod, he turned his attention towards the menu that was still in front of him. Still, something was very... eye catching about the woman who was not asleep. Where had he seen her before, gah, it was actually beginning to bug him a bit. Was it at the World Tournament? No, he would've remembered those eyes, very distinct and almost alien looking. No it was something else, but what?

In the meantime, Zapper took note of the mawile, and was instantly curious. The Pikachu leaped off of the table, and walked over to the fairy-type, tilting her head in confusion at it. However, it didn't take her long to let out a cheerful, "Pika!" in greeting.

A breath of air left Red's nose in the slightest form of a chuckle at the sight of Zapper's curiosity.

Valerie tilted her head to the side as Red directed his focus elsewhere, blinking slowly. What a strange response... well, perhaps the other trainer simply wanted to get some food before socialising, that was something she could empathise with. The gym leader silently drank her tea, letting out a gentle sigh as she relaxed. Perhaps it was just her faulty memory, but Red didn't ring and bells in her mind, though she remained interested in him all the same. She leaned forward and giggled quietly, seemingly quite content to watch their Pokemon interact in their place.

Of course, Konata's approach to social interaction was quite different to her trainer's. The steel-type did respond with a friendly guttural noise and wave at Red's Pokemon, but then began circling Zapper, thoughtfully inspecting her. Without warning, Konata attempted to grab Zapper and lift her into the air, making a victorious hissing sound if successful. Whether she was or wasn't, though, Valerie's Mawile would soon begin trying to pin the electric-type to the ground - it wasn't rough enough to really be called battling, but her play-wrestling was definitely an attempt to gauge Zapper's strength, rather than just teasing on its own. Valerie didn't attempt to stop Konata just yet, although she was watching carefully enough; she did trust her Pokemon completely, after all.

Zapper followed the Mawile in its' circling, the Pikachu turning her body in order to keep it in view. Once the spinning stopped, she let out a squeal of fear as she was lifted into the air by the other Pokemon, certainly not expecting it. Before Konata could begin to pin the Pikachu down, the electric type began to wiggle around in an attempt to escape but found it rather impossible. Zapper might have been strong in battle, but that wasn't literal strength and was more akin to precise hits with her electric moves or impossibly quick physical moves in quick succession. Despite her efforts to not give in and fall into the pin, it was inevitable that her struggles failed and she was fully pinned by the Mawile. This began the second round of squirming to get free, hopefully with more success this time around.

Red had turned his attention away, looking towards the convention goers walking along the street.

"H-here's your drink," the waitress returned with his soda, placing it onto a nice coaster on the table. "D-do you need s-some time for your order?"

Red gave a smile and a polite nod, promoting the waitress to do the same before darting back into the back. The smile quickly faded as he took a drink of his soda, and glanced back over at the person sitting across from him. She seemed interested in the two Pokemon playing. He wanted to say something, ask her why she seemed familiar...

...but he wasn't that good at starting conversations anymore.

Konata was content to let Zapper struggle for a few more seconds, but soon let go, smiling as much as a Mawile could; the other Pokemon was kind of endearing, what with how cute and small it was. The steel-type pat the Pikachu on the head a few times as a gesture of friendship before taking a couple of steps back, closing her eyes contently. For the time being, Konata was rather defenseless, completely relaxed and at ease in wake of having made a new acquaintance.

Whether the play-battle was over or not - a decision left entirely up to Zapper - Valerie straightened up, turning her eyes towards Red with a bright, pure smile. If the other trainer wasn't going to start a conversation, she was more than happy to take the lead herself.

"Your Pokemon is so cute. I do hope mine isn't being a bother; she does get so playful and excitable..." Letting out a heavy sigh of mock exasperation, Valerie giggled again, pausing to give Red the chance to speak, if he felt the urge. She didn't wait so long that it became awkward, though, since from her prior observation he did seem a rather reticent fellow. "Is she trained for battle, or is she just a companion?" Despite the clear implication behind her question, Valerie's smile remained completely innocent, as if it were just a meaningless inquiry for the sake of conversation.
