New Vegas. A hive of vice, greed, lust, corruption and gambling that, despite the NCR's attempts, couldn't be tamed, much like the Mojave itself. It seemed to have become a natural part of the city, one that called to everyone who visited. It was impossible to resist the siren call of the casino's, whether it was for the drinks, dancing or gambling. They just managed to pull everyone in...regardless of whether they had good luck or bad luck. "Ah, come on!" Crow groaned in frustration, the taunting jingle from the slot machine finally getting a reaction from him. Sighing and waving his hands reassuringly at the security guards, he grabbed what money he had and made his way over to the cashier, frowning as he saw how little he'd actually earned. He'd been in New Vegas a week, having come to fulfil a standard delivery job, a job that earned him not only a passport to the Strip, but also a free room at the Tops for the next week. Never let it be said that the management didn't appreciate you doing them a favour. During that time, the prospect of gambling had been too much for him to resist, and he'd quickly spent all his earnings, won them back, and then lost them again in a gambling haze that was both memorable and a blur at the same time. As it stood, he was only a little better off than he had been beforehand. It was both embarrassing and, unfortunately, commonplace for him. Thankfully, not everything had been a total bust. During the first few days of his stay, Crow had quickly learnt about the history of the Wasteland, including the mysterious Vaults: huge, underground bunkers that not only protected from the bombs, but were actually used for ruthless, and in Crow's opinion, messed-up experiments. The only bright side to those still around were that the Vaults held a lot of pre-War tech and machinery, which the right people would pay a lot of money for...and even if they didn't, you could easily find a use for such things out there, even as scrap metal. And luckily for Crow, a new Vault had been found in the Mojave...though no-one who'd entered had made it out. The way Crow saw it, the people who'd entered hadn't thought it through. If one person couldn't accomplish a task, you found a group who could. It had been easy for him to spread news of the Vault throughout the multiverse, and how someone was looking for specialist people to undertake an expedition inside it. He'd made sure to highlight the wealth - and risks - that came with it, just to weed out the rookies, unmotivated and cowards, before saying that: "If anyone's interested, head to the Tops Casino and ask to see C~". With that out of the way, he'd merely settled in and waited for people to turn up...though in hindsight, now that he had blown most of his money on gambling, that may have been a mistake. Glancing down at his meagre winnings, he sighed again in dismay. "Hurry up...if this keeps up, I'm gonna be broke before anyone gets here..." Edited by Crow Armbrust, Oct 14 2017, 09:54 AM.

While the vast majority of M.A.R.S's buisiness was conducted in Traverse Town, a little known fact was that the Uber Ethereal had facilities in a little seen corner of the Wasteland. With the New Valorian War dying down, new technology was slowly filtering in, and M.A.R.S's researchers were clamouring for any models, blueprints, or data they could get. As exciting as it was for Pascal, it was exhausting for Sophie, and Malik, who'd had to help the pinkette keep up with the paperwork. So they'd spent a few days at the Tops. Sure, technically, the couldn't afford it. "And it lands on Red! Another win for the lady in white!" At least, not without Sophie's absurd luck when it came to gambling, which had proven enough to win back the caps spent for the stay, and then some. Sophie's luck at all things gambling was patently absurd. A couple of security guards kept eye on her, but considering she was more often than not won, regardless of what it was, they couldn't peg her with cheating. She certainly wasn't going to be bankrupting the Tops, but the house was losing against her just enough to make them uncomfortable with her presence. Sophie carried her large amount of chips to the cashier. It was about time for them to leave, and head back home, the guards watching her at least happy to see her leave. The humanoid pocketed the caps, trying to think of things to spend them on, though she wasn't exactly super familiar with local wares. As she headed for the door, however, she heard an unusual proposal: one she hadn't expected to hear. Sophie smiled: she knew Pascal would probably be interested. Sophie had heard the Amarcian mention something about the Wasteland of yore having developed an unusually thriving nuclear sector, and that some aspects of nuclear technology had application in fire cryas use, given their mutual instability. Sophie then walked up to him, before realizing she'd never actually roped anyone else into an expedition before. No matter. "So, would you mind if me and my friends came along?" Sophie asked, "We're all pretty good fighters, and one of my friends is a researcher." |

The wasteland in general was a messed-up place. There were many things that were deemed uncontrollable in these parts, whether it be the mutants running around like vicious monsters, or the onslaught of Caesar's Legion, or even the raider gangs making themselves known. It was a world that was like Filgaia, in some cases, as Janus saw it. And, like back home, the wasteland had some highlights that focused primarily on entertainment, which was made evident by the fact that there was a casino. The blue-haired Drifter had just won his second go at a slot machine, Romero and Dario obviously having not a shred of luck when they tried it. Things were going decently well, even if he wasn't winning too much from being at the casino. It was just about time for him to leave, so he took the chips and made his way over to the cashier to exchange the chips for caps. It was just plain weird that the people on such a planet used bottle caps as currency instead of what would normally be accepted as proper money. Oh well. It wasn't like every world had the same kind of cash. As he received his caps, Janus heard someone say something about a Vault before abruptly stopping. His amber eyes turned to where Crow was positioned, recalling Sophie from his attack on the Akashic Center in Traverse Town. Some valuable technology was being sought out, and M.A.R.S was getting involved in some job that would benefit him. In some way, it felt as though his past actions were taunting him. But it was also a chance to get something that he could actually call a reward... As he walked up to Crow, taking Sophie's presence into account, the Drifter put on a smile that appeared genuine. "Excuse me, but I noticed that you were offering to pay for an expedition to be made. Mind if we join in?" |

Heavy stomps marked the arrival of hulking suit of steel. Eyes around the room were drawn to the man walking around in a suit of t-51 power armor, though most quickly returned to their gambling. Holding the helmet under his arm, the elderly wearer scowled as his eyes swept the casino floor. Despite his age, clearly indicated by the wrinkles in his face, his steely gaze and stoney face made him look tougher than the armor protecting him. It didn’t take Albert long to find Crow. The description that the Chairmen gave him made him easy to pick out, even with two people hovering over and talking to him. Making his way over, he looked over Sophie and Janus. He couldn’t hold back a grunt, noting how young they all looked. They looked experienced, too, so they weren’t novices. But Albert had stopped counting how many times he had come upon scenes of “young hotshots go to dangerous place, get slaughtered”. This didn’t bode well. “Looks like there’s already a band of misfits ready to go.” He placed his free hand on his hip, looking critically at the trio. He mentally debated being more polite, but decided against it. He wasn’t in a good mood, thanks to the casino confiscating his minigun for the duration of his stay, and he wanted to see how these guys would react to his attitude. Had to make sure they had spine, or weren’t idiots who’d get themselves killed. “Not a bad crew for picking flowers, but exploring a Vault is a different matter. You kids sure that you know what you’re getting into?” |

(Okay, going to plan an actual deadline of a week here, so next tag will be planned for the 4th of July!) Crow wasn't sure whether it was mere luck, or whether some being had actually heard his pleas and taken mercy upon him, but either way, it seemed as if his offer had finally garnered some attention. Turning to face the potential partners, he grinned his typical relaxed, yet confident grin at Sophie and Janus, and waved his hand reassuringly. "Sure thing! So long as you're talented and can defend yourself, I don't have a problem with how many of you decide to join. And having someone who's a researcher tag-a-long would definitely be helpful, all things considered." Crow would be the first to admit that, while he had an understanding of several topics from weaponry to strategy, science was a different subject altogether, especially the complex stuff that they'd most likely encounter in the Vaults. Better to have someone who could explain it, rather than do something blindly and end up with the next super plague or something, in his opinion. The more grizzled voice of experience that came from their final arrival necessitated a different approach. Looking Albert over himself, and letting out a small, impressed whistle at the frankly massive power armour he was wearing, Crow could tell that he wasn't the kind of man who'd respect someone who was cocky and overconfident, something he could relate to; at the same time, he wouldn't exactly appreciate a loudmouth who didn't take criticism well. "Well, looking us all over, I can tell we've all been in some pretty tough scenarios, so I reckon we can handle most things that come our way. But, from what I do know, these Vaults tend to have a lot of surprises stored away, and I'm not gonna pretend that I've been in hundreds of them, so I'm more than happy to defer to the voice of experience in these cases." he replied, his carefree tone vanishing for one a bit more respectful. With that said and done, he led the way away from the cashier, not trusting him to keep whatever he heard to himself. Instead, he found them a quieter, more isolated area, before he turning his attention back to the main event: the Vault. "So, you no doubt know why you're all here, but I may as well enlighten you all as to the full details. A few weeks ago, some mercenary came back about finding some Vault out there in the Mojave; one that was quickly identified as being a blank spot in known records. No information about it whatsoever, nothing, nada, zilch, zero. You get the idea. And as you can expect, there's a lot of people in the Multiverse who're interested as to what's inside." "Unfortunately, despite this interest, the one snag everyone's been facing is finding the people to go inside. Not many people are eager to enter a Vault, and those that do are either lucky enough to survive or go missing altogether. Hell, the merc that spread the news only managed to do so because he was smart enough not to enter; if he had, then we might not have known about it at all. That said, a few over-eager idiots have tried to tackle it on their own...with about as much effectiveness as you'd expect. In my mind, the reason for that is simple: they tried to do it on their own, rather than in a team. Which is why you're here." Crow let his grin grow a little as he reached the final point, his voice becoming more confident and charismatic with every second. "What I propose is that, rather than tackle it individually, we work as a team. We'll have the brains, brawns, firepower, knowledge, expertise and tactical ability to be more effective than any one-man team could ever be. We go in and deal with whatever we encounter, explore and map the place out, and loot what we can. Whatever we come away with, we split between us." He paused briefly, letting that information sink in for the others, before waving his hand again. "So, any questions or input so far?" Edited by Crow Armbrust, Jun 27 2018, 12:35 PM.

Sophie's attention snapped to the drifter as soon as he appeared, her eyes lingering on him for a few moments. Officially, M.A.R.S. had forgiven Janus. He wasn't on any formal ban list, nor did the association or its members press any charges. That didn't mean Sophie actually trusted him, considering he'd attacked the Akashic Center. Sophie did believe in redemption - she'd seen some pretty tortured souls see the light. As far as she knew though, Janus's 'turn' was more out of economic convenience, rather than any moral reason. She wouldn't attack him, or attempt to apprehend him, but she was certainly not going to trust him. Her gaze might have been kept for a bit longer, had the sound of heavy stomping not demanded her attention. Albert made a few dismissive remarks, though Sophie went unphased. His remarks were similar enough to something the Captain might have said for her to realize she was being prodded about dangers, not being insulted for its own sake, or to get her to quit, "Not beyond a few things I've heard," Sophie admitted, thinking for a few moments, "The captains said I've learned to become pretty flexible though, and I can heal anyone who gets injured, myself included, so..." The point was, of course, that while not the most knowledgable, she could take care of herself - and possibly the others, if need be. Sophie continued to listen, and Sophie had no objections to the discourse. Defer to superior experience and expertise. Work as a team. Sophie pulled out an iChomp from her pocket, before beginning to dial a certain red and white haired researcher, and after a ring or two, was responded to. "Heeeeeeeeeeeeelloooo~ you've reached Pascal! Whacha need, Sophie?" "Hey Pascal, some of the people here want to go vault hunting. You want to come?" "Sweet! Of course I'd like to do it! I'll get the Captain, and be right over! Sophie, switch me to speaker phone!" Now audible, Pascal began talking over the group as a whole, "Heya, it's Dean Pascal! I mean, do we know which vault we're going to be chasing after?" Edited by Amelia, Jun 29 2018, 10:07 PM.

He knew her eyes were focused on him, but only glanced at her briefly before Albert's footsteps sounded through the room and Dario and Romero quickly turned to face the source. Out of the corner of his eye, Janus made out the shape of an old man in a metal suit. The two hooligans mentally winced at Albert's remarks, although the boss himself actually had the gall to reply. "Hunting treasure in some ruins should be similar enough to finding things in a Vault," he stated, his left arm lifted in a half-shrugging gesture. "I'm pretty much a veteran treasure hunter, myself." Soon enough, the group was led to a more distant area before the organizer explained more that wouldn't make it to the cashier. Was the Vault lost? Probably not; it just may have been there without a single person knowing about it. The merc mentioned by Crow seemed like a coward, but there did have to be some reason why there weren't many who dared enter the Vault. As Crow went on, Janus internally admitted that the kid was a natural to some extent, being the only one who'd manage to get a large team together. More importantly, the Drifter would have to decide what to give up on taking with him, as much as he hated to come to that conclusion. The lackeys nervously looked at each other as their leader shrugged. Once Sophie put Pascal on speaker phone, Janus raised an eyebrow. There were certainly going to be a few who weren't going to trust him, given what happened at the Akashic Center back in Traverse Town. He chose not to speak now; he'd wait for the negative expressions on their faces once they arrived. |

Albert held his gaze on Crow, clearly judging him with narrowing eyes. When the other man finished his reply, though, the Vault Dweller loosened his hardass act a bit and gave him a slow nod. The response was a good one -- not offended, not dismissive, subtly but firmly affirming that he was running the show and wasn't about to be pushing around by some old guy. "Good. I'm not looking to hold your hands or have you look at me for every little thing, but as long as you know your limits and move with caution, you're in a better position than all the punks running around the wastes thinking they're the next Vault Dweller or Courier." He glanced to Sophie, unsurprised that her knowledge was limited, but looked very approving when she mentioned that she was a healer. Someone capable of first aid or an outright doctor was absolutely vital in exploring this world. He fit the bill, but having a dedicated healer, and one that might have high tech or magic or whatever dohickeys that offworlders used would be even better. Albert didn't voice his approval though, as he was distracted by Janus' remark. He gave him the same judging stare that he'd given Crow...and then his expression turned thoughtful for a moment, before he slowly nodded. "If..you mean like treasure hunters in some of those old movies, that might actually be accurate. Vaults are ancient, decrepit, and filled with traps and things that want to eat you. If that's what your ruins were like, you might just be better suited to this than the average merc." Crow launched into his full explanation of the job at this point. Albert grunted quietly when he said that there was no information on the Vault. It sucked, but they'd just have to roll with it. While a little recon was always nice, all too often it simply wasn't possible to do without something gnawing your face off. The enclosed and sheltered nature of Vaults made them even harder to scope out. He found himself nodding along as the other man laid out his full intentions, though. Albert's initial, cynical impression of the guy was starting to slowly melt away -- though if asked, he'd still stubbornly insist that Crow was a newbie with a lot to learn. But it was obvious that he had thought this out. He was optimistic that it'd be a profitable expedition, but wasn't deluding himself with the idea of some vague, singular treasure to find. He considered the value in mapping the location, and if you thought about that you probably had an eye out for anything that could be sold at a profit. A very good trait to have when exploring a Vault. In just a short few minutes, his skepticism had diminished. He felt pretty certain that this crew wasn't going to get each other killed, although that certainly didn't rule out the Vault itself doing it. But then, that'd be his job. Making sure these kids didn't stumble into something nasty. "Alright, I'm sold. Count me in on this." Albert still wasn't smiling, but now he looked at the crew with a very small degree of respect. A subtle improvement over how he'd been looking at them before. "I've got a Pip-Boy, so I can map the place out as we go along. Everyone just better bring some packs so we can make off with the loot we find." He scratched his beard, glancing everyone over. "...By the way, since everyone else is bringing their friends, guess I should mention that I've got two coming too. They don't have the experience I do, but they're competent. Wouldn't be traveling with 'em otherwise." |

(Next tag is planned for the 18th) Crow couldn't help but grin calmly, feeling pleased and relieved that everything seemed to be coming together. He'd expected that there could be some difficulties, depending on who took him up on the offer; but, thankfully, he'd ended up with a professional bunch. Sophie seemed to be not only skilled and knowledgeable on the mechanical side, but also had access to some friends who could provide them with the first-aid they'd no doubt need; Janus seemed to have a level of expertise in treasure hunting himself, something Crow was certain wouldn't be too different from exploring the Vault; and Albert held years of experience that would prove valuable to the group overall. "It's called Vault 47...which is practically the only thing everyone's been able to figure out." he told Sophie. What with it being shrouded in mystery, there was very little he could actually dig up on it apart from the name. It was because of that he'd sent Sienna ahead of the group to gather what information she could on the matter. Her Faunus senses and general stealth made her a prime candidate for scouting missions like this, and so he knew it was in good han- "Armbrust!" Years of training his reflexes, along with his recent experiences, caused Crow to duck his head, narrowly avoiding the ashtray that had been thrown at him. Looking up, he caught sight of an angry Sienna approaching, teeth bared and eyes narrowed. Behind her, a few of the Chairmen watched uneasily: she'd submitted to giving up her weapons, so they weren't going to jump straight in...and frankly, none of them wanted to get on her bad side. That said, if things got too messy, they'd get themselves involved, and probably throw the lot of them out. "Maaaan, your aims getting better Sienna. That one nearly hit me!" Crow called out, grinning in a carefree manner, as if nothing had happened. "Armbrust, I'm not in the mood." she retorted warningly. After a few days of trecking through the Wasteland on her own, fighting, fleeing or avoiding danger whenever necessary, she was more than a little annoyed...especially when she'd learnt that Crow had been blowing some of their funds again. "Okay, okay, I get it...I'm glad you're okay though." Flashing her a quick smile, Crow caught sight of the faint widening of her eyes before she huffed and looked away, turning her attention to the others. "...Fine. Just don't let it happen again." she warned, though it lacked the anger that it had held just a few moment ago. Her eyes wandering over the new members, she frowned a little as she noticed all three of them seemed to be human, but otherwise kept her judgements to herself. A part of her could acknowledge Albert's experience, and she figured that Sophie and Janus had probably proved themselves a few times already; but, apart from Armbrust himself, working with humans still left a bad taste in her mouth from her past experiences. However, she could feel the pointed look she was receiving from Crow, a reminder that he knew pretty much what she was thinking, and so decided to do what she did best with most humans: treat them neutrally until they proved her wrong...or right, as the case were. "So, these are the one's who answered your offer, I take it?" Edited by Crow Armbrust, Yesterday, 4:27 AM.
