Italy. Once the birthplace of Rome, it had been treated just as harshly by this world as most other territories existing around it. The golden spark of joy and the happiness of the people was all gone now, replaced by a harsh and heavy silence as the ruins of the cities lay bare for all to see. An Empire fallen; it had been that way even for centuries before the destruction of this world, but this was a fall that destroyed the very core of Rome itself. The eternal city of roses, the grandfather of civilization, now stood as not even a shadow, not a speck of dust of its former self, but a memory of the spirit once held inside this corpse of a country. "I see... it was only natural that this would be its state, I suppose." And the Fifth Emperor's golden heels clicked against the cracked stone road beneath them as a wistful sigh escaped from her curiously smiling lips. "Umu... it's an opportunity for me to retake Rome, I suppose." Saber spread her arms out as she looked at the ruins of the city. It must have been incredibly hard for her. Seeing the empire that she had so lovingly nurtured turn into such a despicable state. It must have torn her apart inside knowing that Rome, the very vessel of her spirit as she was the very embodiment of the Empire, had been utterly erased from this world's history. "Isn't that right, My Praetor? There is still so much material we can use! If we can salvage it and hire workers, we can restore Rome to its former glory!" Yet, she smiled. She smiled like no person would be able to in this time. And that's what her Master admired about her the most. "Master, are you listening? I realize my presence is incredibly distracting but please don't let my charm turn your attention from my beloved city, umu!" It took a lot for Satsuki not to call her Servant out on her troubles, as she simply smiled and shook her head. "I'm sorry, Saber. Though I doubt we'll be able to hire many workers in the near future, I suppose settling a small town would at least attract some citizens who are willing to work in exchange for housing." The Kiryuiin pinched her upper lip and hummed as she appraised the wreckage. With some stone cutting and re-purposing they could definitely build some decent stone homes out of these buildings. But the first thing was first, they had to secure some kind of base for themselves as well. "Saber, on what we talked about. Have you decided on a location for the center of the city yet?" Of course, the very thought that Nero would need to consider it at all brought a chuckle to the Emperor's vocal chords. "Umu, it should be obvious, Master." She twirled a half-circle and pointed towards the horizon. Her very presence and charisma were as inspiring and bright as the Sun that sat just overhead, and the smile plastered on her face bore such a self-assured confidence it could only be envied and admired. "I will retake my Domus Aurea as my very own palace!" Such was the Emperor's Decree. Edited by Nero Claudius, Aug 5 2017, 10:52 AM.

For better or worse, things would actually seem to get better. As in, it went to where things were just good enough that The actual buildings here seemed to be... actually, they seemed to be in remarkably good condition. Some of the buildings seemed almost liveable. There was even a large building, one that looked like an old train station. With a bit of sprucing up, some repairs, and some safety checks, it could serve as a makeshift city hall, or offices - a new Roman Empire would need quite a bit of room of civic space. Satsuki might recognize that the buildings here used materials and styles of construction that lasted longer than typical modern construction, which would explain why they'd stood the test of time. This particular area would seem almost miraculous compared to many other regions of this world. ... Odd then, that there was nobody living in this quarter, especially when some of the eroded stonework was actually still sort of pretty here. Edited by Cynthia, Jun 18 2018, 01:15 AM.
