For years now, I have been haunted by a made-for TV cartoon movie that was on in the early 80s. I only remember certain parts, but I really want to find it again! Here is what I remember, but it was so long ago some of it may be wrong...

2 friends are in a forest. 1 falls asleep, or passes out or something. He finds himself in another world and becomes part of this magical fantasy story. I don't remember anything in the middle, but at the end they are in a castle and he is battling a bad guy. I believe the bad guy appeared in two forms... the physical form was just a skull on a stick. But the shadow that was cast by this skull was a living breathing fighting bad dude. The good guy had to fight this shadow to win. At the end, he was transported back to the forest he began in with his friend.

Does that ring any bells for any of you???

A middle-aged hunter wandering through the forest in pusuit of a deer is magicaly transformed into a young man by fairy magic. The good faeires must enlist his help in a battle between the good faeries and the forces of darkness led by the kings evil rouge shadow.
The story was inspired by the artwork of artist Brian Froud.

Wow... I totally forgot about the faeries... but this is it. And what an added bonus seeing that it was Lee Mishkin - that looks like a cool DVD lecture series. Thanks a lot for the info!!
